These musicians have played together for many years in concerts, festivals and recordings. Therefore, it was only natural when Joe officially formed the Joe Farnsworth & Abraham Burton Quartet with Isaiah Thompson and Gerald Cannon in 2016.
One of the most highly regarded jazz drummers on the scene today, Joe Farnsworth is known for his blazing speed, precision, musical and melodic playing. Joseph’s career includes recording over 100 CD’s as leader and side-man, jazz festivals and world tours with Pharaoh Sanders, Horace Silver, Harold Mabern, McCoy Tyner, Cedar Walton, Diana Krall, Benny Golson, George Coleman, Johnny Griffin, Lou Donaldson, Benny Green, Barry Harris and Curtis Fuller.
American saxophonist, Abraham Burton was a featured performer on the 2011 Grammy Award winning album Mingus Big Band Live at Jazz Standard. During the 1990’s, he played wit Nat Reeves’ band and from 1991-1995 he performed with Art Taylor’s Wailers.
Gerald Cannon is a bassist from Racine, Wisconsin. Moving to NYC at the age of 28, he has played with a long list of jazz greats including: Russell Malone, Winard and Philip Harper, Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, Dexter Gordon, Cedar Walton Trio with Billy Higgins, Jimmy Smith, Little Jimmy Scott, Frank Foster, Stanley Turentine, Roy Hargrove, Wynton Marsalis, Steve Turre, Gary Bartz, Abbey Lincoln, Pat Martino to name a few. He is currently the musical director for the McCoy Tyner Trio.
Isaiah Thompson, the youngest member of the group, is quickly gaining acclaim for his musical abilities and finesse of the keys. Receiving high praise from Wynton Marsalis, Mr. Thompson is a 3-time winner for Outstanding Achievement from the Music Educators Association and an Outstanding Soloist at both the Essentially Ellington and Mingus competitions, as well as a jazz piano winner for the National Young Arts Foundation.
