Oral Item: Update on Free and Healthy Lunches in Schools

Portfolio Education

On 4 December 2019, the Cabinet Social Wellbeing Committee (SWC):

1 noted that on 26 June 2019, SWC agreed to policy objectives and parameters to guide the free and healthy school lunch prototype (the prototype) [SWC 19-MIN-0077];

2 noted the update from the Minister of Education (the Minister) on the prototype;

3 agreed to extend the free and healthy school lunch programme to Year 9-15 students who attend composite schools selected for participation in the prototype;

4 agreed that the Minister will make decisions on a case-by-case basis on the provision of funding for free and healthy lunches to Year 9-15 students in Year 7-13 secondary schools within the prototype.
