Mole Valley Orienteering Club (affiliated to British Orienteering) www.mvoc.org Mole Night & Kent Night Cup round 7 Nut Wood Thursday 29th October 2015 This is one of Mole Valley's series of evening events, and also part of the weekly “Kent Night Cup” competition. Please check www.mvoc.org and www.saxons-oc.org for details of the other events in these series. Location: Nut Wood, on the North Downs above Reigate. Assemble in the free Reigate Hill car park, grid reference TQ263523, GPS co-ords 51.2563,-0.1914. Postcode RH2 9RP close but on the wrong road. By car: From the roundabout above M25 junction 8, take the exit for A217 southbound but stay in the left-hand lane. This lane turns left from the main road, immediately fork right following blue “P” and “Unsuitable for HGV's” signs. Go slightly uphill, and when confronted by “no entry” signs, turn right into the car park. (Recommend viewing on Google Earth in home comfort before trying it in the dark). Public transport: Reigate railway station 1.3miles (uphill). Buses 420 and 460 pass a few yards from assembly and serve Reigate (& other) railway stations, see www.surreycc.gov.uk/roads-and-transport/buses-and-trains. Format: a mass-start 60-minute forest score event. Visit as many controls as you can. 20 controls, 190-199 and 200-209. 190's first or 200's first, change over when/where you like. 1 point per control, with a penalty of 1 point per minute or part minute over the hour. Bonus point for punching 199 & 200 consecutively in either order, so maximum score 21 points. Map: 1:7,500 map produced by Mike Elliot for the 2011 SE Middle-Distance Champs. Terrain: mostly woodland, with some paths, on the slopes of the North Downs. Natural steepness is accentuated in places by quarrying. One field with sheep, no dogs please. Equipment: Chalk slopes can be slippery, grippy shoes essential. Plus the normal torch, back-up torch, whistle, compass, SI dibber (hire available), suitable clothing (no shorts). Entry system: Please email the organiser Ian Ditchfield [email protected] so that we know how many maps to print. But if you decide at the last minute, just turn up anyway, there will be some spare maps. Registration 7:00-7:15 (please don’t be late). Seniors £4, Juniors £1. Dibber hire £1. Mass start at 7:30pm. Social, results & prize-giving: afterwards at the Feathers Hotel, 42 High Street, Merstham, Surrey, RH1 3EA. 2.5 miles drive but a simple route; ask for a lift if using public transport (& plan to go home from Merstham station). If eating, please pre-order from the menu at Registration. You are responsible for your own safety and you take part in this event at your own risk. If you have competed in three orienteering events registered with British Orienteering and not joined an orienteering club which is a member of British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance..
