Welcome to Film TEEP!

As we are here to sup- port and assist talented filmmakers to bring their stories on the big screen and, finally, to promote them,

As the first Film TEEP Workshop fulfilled its mission so proficiently,

We are happy to support the second Film TEEP workshop, which will help you to improve the creative content and international potential of your feature projects and will continue to develop your professional network especially for the East European region, and to encourage an international audiovisual collaboration.

After the strict selection from March, the best teams have been invited to share and better their stories with very experienced trainers, brought from all over Europe. Having classes on scriptwriting, production and financing, as well as feedbacks from your tutors and from your colleagues will help you to continue your way to the final draft.

In this workshop you’ll share and get rich with a bunch of great ideas and knowledge, but with traditions and other important values from different peo- ple and cultures, as well.

So have a great and productive time in Bucharest.

17 times in the years to come, I wish to discover in the darkness of the thea- tre hall, on the large screen, the stories from this workshop.

Dear friends, dear colleagues,

To say “dear Friends“ is maybe a little bit optimistic before starting. Maybe hate and sorrow will flow in the streets of Bucharest in May.

But sure we are colleagues, cinema lovers, filmmakers and with dozens of stories to tell. This passion we share will tie us better than any common language, common political statement or even common films we love. What we think, believe or like is nothing in front of what we dream with, That’s the strength of cinema and your projects are strong.

This event has been set up very quickly, with generous support from the Romanian CNC. But the architect is Ruxandra Cernat, she was convincing, supporting and organising. You will be the scriptwriters, the directors, the producers… We will be the tutors, the production and script advisers, But without her, nobody could be here. Nobody could learn anything, not you, not me.

“Anyone who's made film and knows about the cinema has a lifelong love affair with the experience. Because you never stop learning about film“.

Because it’s all about learning, dear colleagues, and this from other colleagues, in a different language from what you speak at home, with people not knowing where exactly you come from, and with their own world, taste and references. Like in the real cinema life.

To deal with foreigners, strangers and competitors is your destiny. You will never know if they want to build their own home on your field Or they want really to help you to make your home better Or simply they are polite… But further than opinions, advices or tricks, You will see you are not alone; you are part of a community, a film community willing to help you, improving your ideas, giving you some links and ready to answer in the future.

A vey warm welcome to this workshop, I hope it will be a creative tool for you. Because people need stories, Let’s be storytellers.

PATRICE VIVANCOS HEAD OF STUDIES

After University Studies in Paris and some theatrical experiences, Patrice Vivancos started in the cinema as Production Man- ager in Greece.

He did then some documentaries as Film Di- rector and then, after setting up a produc- tion company, directed a TV movie and two long feature films (“Xenia“ and “A Charmed Life“).

In 1995 he moved to France where he worked for many festivals and helm the “Forum du Cinéma Européen de Stras- bourg” till 2003 and organised also some conferences on cinema.

He has been the head of a Film Commission and Regional Fund in Valencia, Spain, till 2008.

In parallel, he participated to several conferences and Festival juries. He also wrote a book on European cinema in 2002 (publisher L’Harmattan/ Paris) and another one in 2014.

He currently works at the European Commission in Brussels.

DAVID POPE LEADING SCRIPT TUTOR

Filmmaker, Script Consultant and Train- ing Provider

David is the director of advance films with whom he has slate of projects in de- velopment. www.advancefilms.com.

He has worked as script consultant on single projects and slates in US, Europe, Middle East, North Africa and Asia.

He is the annual consultant / moderator for the Rotterdam Lab at CineMart, co- designs and delivers Story Campus a travelling conversation on the nature and future of storytelling for screens and regularly teaches at film schools and runs workshops at international film festivals.

Directing credits include the award winning feature film MILES FROM NO- WHERE.

ANA SANZ-MAGALLON SCRIPT TUTOR

Ana graduated in Jour- nalism at the University of Navarra, and special- ized in Film at UCLA.

Since 1995 she has worked as a freelance analyst and story editor for different Production Companies, analyzing more than a thousand scripts and participating in the development of thirty released TV series and films, including the win- ner of the 2008 Goya Award for the best adapted screenplay “Bajo las Estrel- las”, 2009 Goya Award for First Time Director, “El Truco del Manco”, and 2010 Goya Award for First Time Director “Tres dias con la familia”.

Ana is also tutor and lecturer for various institutions and development work- shops in Europe and Latinamerica; and has been a member of the jury in script contests of the Spanish and Colombian Ministry of Culture, Instituto Cervantes or Casa de America.

She is author of the book “Cuentalo Bien – Common Sense applied to sto- ries”, published by Editorial Plot in 2007, now in its second edition.

LUC NTONGA LEGAL TUTOR

Luc NTONGA is managing director and co -founder of the French distribution com- pany INSOMNIA WORLD SALES, which is dedicated to the marketing and distribu- tion of independent films and unconven- tional documentaries.

Since 2004 he has been responsible for the distribution and licensing of more than three hundred titles including many Award -winning feature films.

In 2012, Luc NTONGA has founded COSMOPOLIS FILMS, a French new pro- duction company devoted exclusively to international coproductions.

IRINA-MARGARETA NISTOR

Born on March 26, 1957 in Bucha- rest, Irina – Margareta Nistor is a BA of foreign languages, in 1980, French and English, graduating the Univer- sity with a paper about “Cocteau and his poem-films”.

She worked for The Romanian Televi- sion from 1980 until 1999, first as a film translator, then as a program producer. Here she had translated and subtitled over 500 movies and signed programs like: “Video-Guide”, “Series of Series”, “Screen”, and “Film Puzzle”.

She had dubbed live almost 5000 movies on video (from English, French, Ital- ian and Spanish).

She has translated over 100 books, novels, dictionaries and plays.

She conceived several cine-documents “Is History Repeating Itself?” a portrait of the huge actor Toma Caragiu, and a film study about the “Impact of Dallas soap-opera over the Romanian viewers”.

In 1993, she produced, in French, for TV5 Europe a one-hour program called “The Romanian Cinema after 1989”. She was the live commentator of film cere- monies such as: César, Cannes, Oscar, BAFTA, EMMY. She covers for the writ- ten and audio-video press famous festivals such as Cannes or Berlin.

She has for 9 years already a weekly one hour Sunday program on Radio Guerrilla and before on Radio Total: “The Voice of the Movies.”

She interviewed important personalities such as Giuliano Gemma, Bernard Pivot, Alan J.Pakula, Frédéric Mitterrand, Rutger Hauer, Sam Karmann, Park Chan Wook, Anthony Minghella, Yann Tiersen, Jean-Claude Carrière, Julie Délpy, Grace Zabriskie, Pim Van Hoeve, Nyman, Bruce Beresford, Pe- ter Greenaway, Charles Aznavour, Francis Ford Coppola, Dardenne brothers, Carole Bouquet, Isabelle Huppert, and several ambassadors.

FLORIN SERBAN

Biography Studied and lectured at Columbia Univer- sity in New York and holds a Master's De- gree in Film Directing. He also graduated from the Romanian National University for Theater and Film in 2002 and received an MA in the Philosophy of Culture and Herme- neutics in 1998.

During his studies he wrote and directed short films and documentaries, and won numerous scholar awards and scholarships. His directorial debut feature film If I Want to Whistle, I Whistle (2010) received the Silver Bear - Grand Prize of the Jury, and the Alfred Bauer Award for innovation in cin- ema at 2010 Berlinale. He is now working on his second feature film project BOX and is the director and coordinating professor at The Acting School in Bucharest, Romania.

Over 10 years of experience in advertising as Creative Professional, PR, BTL Senior Specialist (Softwin), Marketing Coordina- tor for Romania and Bulgaria at Home Box Office (HBO). Since 2007, she worked as independent professional for several international film festivals such as Bucharest IFF, Independent Producers IFF, Moscow IFF and a training program EEFA TN.

Graduate of several training programs supported by Media/Media Mundus.

Since September 2012, President of ARTVIVA, developing large film events, support for IFF Dakino and Cinepolitica, organizing the annual Russian Film Days, Tarkovski’s Celebration, German - Family Portrait with the support of the Embassy of the Russian Federation, and the international training program Film TEEP with the support of the Romanian CNC.

ANDREI JAKAB, Production Assistant Studied International Affairs but during college years he was more and more attracted to the film industry so he started out as a volunteer at a few film festivals in Bucharest and step by step he ended up working at events and film festivals throughout the country.

ANA-CAROLA BUZATOV, PR Coordinator BA in Law, MA in Film Production & Scriptwriting. She prac- ticed law for 11 years, as legal consultant to the Helsinki Com- mittee, lawyer and head of the legal department for two national companies until she switched toward film for good.

She made more documentaries and weekly reportages as TVR journalist. Wrote, directed and produced more shorts. Worked as script consultant and wrote three feature screenplays. One of them, Esc obtained more international awards. She participated in the first Film TEEP edition with her last script.

Adapted from an acclaimed short story by Anton Chekhov, “Ward no. 6” is a compelling and powerful cautionary tale of one man’s descent into madness. Updated to a contemporary set- ting and utilizing a semi-documentary approach, the film charts the existential crisis and sub- sequent decline of Dr. Ragin (Vladimir Ilici) from chief psychiatrist of a mental institution to asylum inmate.

Co-written and directed by veteran filmmaker Karen Shakhnazarov and selected as Russia’s entry for the 2010 Academy Awards, “Ward no. 6” is a compelling exploration of the fearfully delicate line that separates sanity and insanity.

Adapted from Patricia Highsmith’s popular novel "The Talented Mr Ripley” .

Tom Ripley is sent to Europe by Mr. Greenleaf to fetch his spoiled, play- boy son, Philippe, and bring him back home to the States. In return, Tom will receive $5,000. Philippe toys with Tom, pretending he will go back home, but has no intentions of leaving his bride to be, Marge, and honoring his father's wishes. After some time passes, Mr. Greenleaf considers the mission a failure and cuts Tom off. Tom, in desperation, kills Philippe, assumes his identity, and lives the life of a rich playboy. However, he will need all his conman abilities to keep Philippe's friends and the police off the trail.

James Berardinelli, praised Delon's acting: "Tom is fascinating because Delon makes him so". And also complimented the film for "expert camerawork and crisp direction." Berardinelli placed Purple Noon on his All-Time 100 list, and compared it to the 1999 film: "Almost every aspect of Rene Clement's 1960 motion picture is superior to that of Minghella's 1999 version, from the cinematography to the acting to the screenplay. might make a credible Tom Ripley, but only for those who never experienced Alain Delon's portrayal."

A Russian opera and ballet producer and his creative friends, with pleasure and difficulties, amaze and provoke the audience and create the glory for the Russian culture in the beginning of the 20th century in Europe. The main character, Sergei Diaghilev (1872-1929) has an amaz- ing taste and sense for talent and pushes his dancers, singers, composers and artists to their limits to create novel and stunning performances despite turbulent and dramatic relationships within his company.

The biography of Diaghilev looks like an extravagant adventurous novel. His life is full of ups and downs and paradoxes. He experiences triumph and bitterness of failure. He lives through bankruptcy, war, revolution and exile. He enjoys success but he never betrays his own vision of perfection to please the crowd. Diaghilev never hears the word “no” and can push through the walls of rejection. Sometimes he lives in luxury; sometimes he does not have enough money to pay his company or even his hotel bill. He is a spendthrift and a stingy person at the same time. He can squabble over pennies with his company or shower them with lavish gifts and dinners or even give his last dime for the medical treatment of a dancer’s child. He is a hy- pochondriac who can obsessively avoid a person who barely sneezes but he can also devotedly care for his sick brother, rush to the deathbed of his beloved composer Tchaikovsky who dies of cholera, or neglect his own fatal sickness.

Diaghilev enjoys moments of tenderness and deep understanding with people whose talents he discovers and suffers from their betrayal. Diaghilev may be ambitious and narcissistic, but he also knows how to be a good friend and how to love. He acts as Pigmalion, falling in love with his creations. He helps them to become famous. But he is also an absolute autocrat. Dictator- ship and dominating bring tragedy to his personal life. Diaghilev is a charming and pitiless ty- rant manipulating people’s emotions, keeping them under his incessant control. Some of Diaghilev’s stars see him as Mefisto who takes their souls for the glory.

Diaghilev makes ballet history with his experiment on a gigantic scale. He strives to make a breakthrough and to demonstrate the Russian character to Europe. Prophet and tyrant, incor- rigible individualist, visionary and provocateur, he hears the music before the composer does and sees the dance before the first pas. His story is unique and interesting not only with rever- sals of fortune but also with the great number of life details of the composers, choreographers, artists and dancers who play significant roles in music, theatre and art of the 20th century. His relations with Mikhail Fokine, Alexander Benois, Leon Bakst, Vaslav Nijinsky, Igor Stravin- sky, Leonid Massine and Serge Lifar are filled with conflict and drama. He works with such fu- ture celebrities as Prokofiev, Balanchine, Derain, Braque and Picasso. Anna Pavlova, Tamara Karsavina, and Misya Sert play important roles in Diaghilev’s life. Diaghilev creates an ambi- ence and fertilizes the ground for those who have talent. He drags the best out of every artist around him. In the words of the dance expert Marie Rambert, “it was a tremendous advantage and tremendous honor to work for Diaghilev, but it was also an incredible joy, and they did more for him than they could have done for anybody else. It was interesting. It was made great for them by the presence of that giant, God rest his soul”.

Logline: Two alienated sisters are doing what they can, each in her own way, in order to save the life of a little girl. Two opposite ways of living dramatically collide, confronting their own compromises.

Two sisters live under the same roof alienated from each other. The lack of money forced them to live together. They have different views on life, the older sister prays every day and despises her younger sister for being a prostitute. But they both need each other’s true love, support and friendship although they are not aware of it yet; therefore, their relationship seems impossible to them. Emine, the older sister has a nine-years old daughter. She is sick and there are no money for her opperation. Emine earns very little for the hard work she performs, barely enough for the child’s food and medication. The younger sister, Meryem pays for the apartment. Emine is compelled to steal the money for the rent in order to save her child. But the owner of the apartment is not able to wait any longer, he threatens the sisters. Emine can’t cheat anymore but she can’t give back the money which she collected for her daughter! Therefore, Meryem has to pay for her sister’s debts, one way or another!

Andra Popescu

Andra Popescu is a cultural worker who's involvment covers several artistic domains, across different platforms and institutions. She started in November 2004 as an assistant curator for the opening exhibition of the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Bucharest, assisting Cristoph Buchel and Gianni Motti. She continued her involvement with the cultural scene with an exhibition at „Galeria Noua” Bucharest and developed her organisational skills in the frame of several international film, music and theatre festivals, including collaboration with the audio-visual experimental international festival Simultan. During her one year stay in Azerbaijan in 2012, she coordinated several children's theater play at Kukla Teatri Baku and other cultural initiatives in Icerisheher . She met director Imamaddin Hasanov and together they developed the project „Holy Cow”, winner of Best Pitch Award in the frame of Caucadoc Project Development 2012. The project was also selected in 2013 for the EastDoc Platform Prague, Young Proffesional Co-production Workshop in Wiesbaden, Germany, Jihlava Industry Days in Czech Republic and got nominated for Robert Bosch Co-production Prize in Berlin. Currently she works in Bucharest as a film producer.

Milena and her fiancé Boro are having disagreements over their future life together. He wants Milena to sell her river house and move with her young daughter Andjela to the city, to live with him. She likes the river house, but understands that a life with someone else means sacrifice and that moving to the city means Andjela will be closer to school that she starts at the end of the summer. This is all being decided on the day of Andjela’s surprise birthday party that Milena and Boro have prepared for her.

The trouble arises when Vanja, Milena’s stepson from her first marriage, comes out of prison on the same day, comes back home and moves back in. His father is gone and he had no idea that Milena now has a new family. He feels left out and spitefully declares that he will not let the house be sold, as it is his house after all. Milena tries to come to a solution, even ready to give up the house, in case Vanja doesn’t back out. Boro puts pressure on her to solve the situation, which starts getting out of control, as Vanja brings over a call-girl and two thugs come looking for him to settle something. His reasons for being difficult are more deeply rooted than Boro realizes and the fact is that he doesn’t want so much to keep the house, as he wishes to keep Milena around.

Milena struggles to confront either of the two of them as she herself wants to have it both ways – stay at her dream house and start a new life with a decent and loving man. Eventu- ally she is made to choose between the two, with each choice carrying its own set of conse- quences.

Biography Born in 1988 in Belgrade, Serbia. Finished a four-year design school in Belgrade. She had studied writing and directing in Belgrade and London.

Gorana had directed 6 short films, 4 music videos and worked on over 18 short films in various, mostly HoD roles. She has also participated at the 2013 Sarajevo Tal- ent Campus as a screenwriter.

Her graduation film KING FOR A DAY has been nomi- nated for the Royal Television Society’s Student Televi- sion Award for Best Fiction in the London region, as well as for Best Drama, Best Performances and Best Film at UK National Student Film Festival Screenfest.

Blagoje is an old man who lives alone in Pančevo, a town 15 kilometers from Belgrade.

The year is 1999. When Nato attacks Serbia, Blagoje stays at home, refusing to move into the shelters with the other citizens. He doesn’t want this war to turn his life upside down.

Danica, 40, his neighbor, has a completely different attitude. She is very frightened and she tries to talk Blagoje into hiding in the shelter, but he won’t go. She doesn’t give up on trying to convince him to go with her because Blagoje has come to represent the father she never had, and Danica doesn’t want to lose him. (Danica has been alone ever since she was orphaned as a small child.)

When the mayor of Pančevo announces that Nato has started bombing the oil refinery and they are in danger of an ecological disaster Danica panicked. Driven by loneliness, Danica, enters Blagoje's home and tries to drag him with her. An argument ensues and turns into a brutal fight. Blagoje gets incredibly angry with Danica: it’s an inhuman anger. A couple of days later, Blagoje is bedridden because of a dislocated ankle, and in need of help. He apologizes to Danica, telling her that he had regularly episodes similar to the one he had with her. That inhu- man anger comes from the past. The same inhuman anger that hit him in 1944, in Mathausen, after he had survived life in a concentration camp. The Nazis, there, forced him to relinquish everything he had in order to stay alive, and he never fully regained the dignity he lost.

When Serbia is attacked, Blagoje swears that he will get through the conflict with his pride in- tact this time, and because of Danica’s devotion to him, Blagoje emerges from this war emotion- ally unharmed.

When the war is over, after more than two months of bombing, Blagoje is exhausted. Outside his window, the sky is red. The flames in the refinery are as high as buildings an apocalyptic horizon. Blagoje lies down on his bed to rest with his cat. He lets out a sigh of relief and his lips curl into a smile. He is at peace. The war, this time, didn't take his humanity.

However, this war didn’t leave Blagoje as unharmed as he thinks. The air that he just inhaled will leave toxic, chemical traces in his lungs - traces that will turn to cancer – a cancer that kill him in just over a year.

A filmmaker, who failed in life and career, tries to reconcile her family members by making a movie about a utopian version of them.

Middle age Alina Negrea lives a dull marriage with a pathetic husband and two uncontrollable juvenile boys. Her only escape is cinema where she works as a documentary director. The edit- ing room is her favorite place. But her projects are not highly supported by producers and stu- dio. In fact, last film was a total flop.

Reunited with widower father and two young brothers at her mother’s memorial, Alina feels that even her kin have distanced one another.

But Tudor, her father, a renowned professor, has a big surprise for all. He wrote, as therapy, a screenplay. A story inspired from their past, a confession about his relation with their mother and the childhood of Alina. And he wants, before his death, to see this utopian story made into a feature film. But the characters of the story have no resemblance with the unhappy, prob- lematic and false real counterparts.

Alina reluctantly accepts “the job” despite the sappy tone of the script, knowing that she will never control the project.

Diving into the life of characters, Alina discovers little dirty secrets not only from the past, but from the present too. While one of her brother cheats his wife indulging himself in shady busi- ness, the other one, family pride, he is risking his medical license by failing all exams.

But the biggest shock is provided by Tudor himself who, apparently, let his beautiful teaching assistant Olimpia, pregnant.

Confronted with the real life and Alina’s refusal to continue with the film, Tudor has a stroke and temporarily paralyzes.

Trying to cut the bad scenes and gluing the good ones, Alina forces herself to put order in her life and in the movie she makes. First, she gives all her energy in finishing the film. Secondly, she convinces her brothers to act more like their bright and praiseworthy cinematic avatars. While caring her ill father, Alina finds time also to share with her husband and her kids. But blending reality with fiction is not an easy task.

When Tudor asks for Olimpia to play a role in the movie, paying her for an abortion too, Alina confronts Olimpia directly, accusing her to be responsible for everything.

Guilty of anything, Olimpia accepts the money and have an abortion. But, soon after the inter- vention, Olimpia dies from bleeding complications.

With this heavy burden on their consciences, Negrea family makes some redemption attempts: the older brother ceases his dubious affairs, the other one becomes a doctor, Alina finishes the film and Tudor regains his health and participates alongside entire family at the premiere of the movie. A real hit. The producers and the studio expect worldwide success.

Proud of her edited masterpiece, Alina leaves the film role in the editing room and joins the small party at her birthplace home. Her family is gathered around Tudor, sharing a moment of peace and love. After all, reality is always better than fiction. 1 37 Selected Projects

A guard becomes a prisoner…

ZARIFE (6) is the youngest of a poor family living in the suburbs of Istanbul with brother Kamil who is only 3 years older and the mother. The rules of their life are formed with the letters they receive from their father who is a truck driver working in Middle East, and rarely comes to Tur- key.

Honor and woman pride are the main values they believe in. The family members live to dignify these values. Knowing it, Kamil, is appointed as the substitute leader of the family and has the task to protect the family members’ honor since the father is a way all the time. Kamil loves his sister and protects her every way he can. But over time, the love and the care between them, suffocates their life as a result of this responsibility bourdon on their shoulders.

Since Zarife is not going to school yet, her social life takes place around her neighborhood friendships. Again one day, Zarife joins her friends outside to play. As they are running around as a part of the game, Zarife accidently gets stuck in a corner of a staircase. Her friend Recep (7) suddenly approaches her and lifts her skirt in a perverted way and stare to her legs. Zarife feels snookered and guilty at the same time, because it was thought to her in the family that every girl is responsible to keep her privacy; otherwise her family would be ashamed. Recep tells Zarife that he will not tell her brother what happened if she shows him her underwear once again, tomorrow. For Zarife, her brother hearing such a story is the worst thing ever. So, she accepts what Recep asks for.

Zarife has a terrible night and in the morning she reaches to Recep’s house in order to fulfill her duty. At that moment, she witnesses Recep’s mother’s and father’s discussion about the father’s mistress, Süslü (Fancy) İlknur, which is the prostitute of that neighborhood. As Recep re- quested, Zarife again shows her underwear to him, thinking, this will be the end of the night- mare. But this day is only the starting of depressing and intimidated days she will have.

The kids in the neighborhood slowly hear about Zarife’s fame with another attempt of Recep of- fering Zarife’s body to his friends. In small groups, they start to reach and ask her to do similar stuff she did for Recep. In a very short time, Zarife becomes the toy of the boys in the neighbor- hood with the threats they are giving. We witness the sexual harassment a 6 year old gets from group of small boys day by day. Every time, she steps outside, a new kid holds her up and asks her to do things, which triggers their curiosity. This harassment comes to extreme points; the possibility of rumors getting into Zarife’s family’s ears kills her inside and makes her weak enough to say ‘Yes’ every time a boy asks for her to show her skin. By time, Zarife gets de- pressed, keeps herself out of social life without letting her family realize the situation.

One day, a hope rises for her; her girlfriends ask her to join them to play at one of the girls’ house. But, unfortunately Zarife falls into their trap and gets stuck with 15 boys in a room of the house she went to play to. Just seconds before the guys are about to attack her, a door opens and the black sheep of the neighborhood, Süslü İlknur, comes to rescue her.

Zarife’s family learns about her situation in an unexpected way when İlknur brings Zarife to home. We see couple of scenes in a row, which family struggles while they are making the right decision to get out of this situation and at the end we see that the guardians release the pris- oner, but the prisoner becomes her own guardian.

Ryoichi Hyodo, a tattoo artist estranged from his family, returns to Tokyo from NYC to see his dying father, Kingo Hyodo, who is undergoing experimental radiation. Kingo, a renowned painter at the center of an Ukiyoe art dynasty active since the Edo period, reveals that his brother, Makoto, has been missing since after the Tohoku Tsunami.

Fearing the worst, Ryoichi heads to the temporary housing near Minamisouma where their family’s ancestral home was destroyed by the tsunami and made unsafe by the radiation re- leased by Fukushima. With Makoto nowhere to be found, he seeks out his childhood love Mi- yako, who is grieving because she lost her father in the tsunami. For Ryoichi, the loss is per- sonal as her father is an Ukiyoe colleague of Kingo.

When Ryoichi confirms Miyako’s assertion of a rumor about his brother being one of the work- ers involved in clean-up work at the Fukushima power station overseen by a local Yakuza syn- dicate, he confronts the leader, Naoki, a dangerous rival for Miyako’s affection.

Naoki refuses to release Ryoichi because, he says, he is owed money from Makoto. Skeptical of this accusation and protective of his brother, Ryoichi and Miyako sneak onto the base station on the outskirts of Fukushima to rescue Makoto before he is deployed to begin the work.

The Yakuza stop them but Naoki is impressed with Ryoichi’s determination so he offers an al- ternative to Makoto doing the clean-up work that will be revealed if they go to an abandoned fish market the next day. Ryoich agrees to this mysterious offer but not without Naoki upping the stakes by abducting Miyako to assure he follows through.

Failing to convince the police to believe his story and help, Ryoichi ventures out alone to the market. He finds his brother and the Yakuza and uncovers the truth that Makoto had pushed his father’s Ukiyoe business into bankruptcy and, therefore, had to pay for his father’s treat- ment with a Yakuza loan. Without money to pay it back, Makoto took the hazardous job for the Yakuza instead.

To free his brother and Miyako, Naoki unveils that the deal is that Ryoichi must finish Naoki’s tattoo body suit to perfection in three days but any mistaken line will result in bokkei, tattoo punishment of every mistaken line on Makoto. Ironically, the tattoo is from Kingo’s most fa- mous Ukiyoe painting.

When Ryoichi undertakes the work and multiple mistakes result in the Yakuza forcing him to repeat them on Makoto as punishment, Ryoichi cracks under the pressure and quits. He only restores his confidence by going out to the ocean where his brother and he surfed as youth on waves like his father painted.

Though Ryoichi successfully completes the tattoo, Naoki doesn’t release Miyako as promised so Ryoichi takes matters into his own hands and, with Makoto, goes to the Yakuza hideout to vanquish her captors, saving her without spilling blood. Shamed, the collusive police finally arrest Naoki and his cohorts.

Surviving the ordeal, Ryoichi suits up with Makoto to go surfing now that the government says that the ocean radiation is no longer dangerous. A taxi pulls up at the beach with a recovered but weak Kingo who smiles as he watches his sons surf. 42 Selected Projects

The plot time is present, but the problems in Kosovo date from the past. Mutual disagreements between Serbs and Albanians in Kosovo persist. The barricades on the roads are held mostly by young people; older generation did its share of the dirty work and have withdrawn into poli- tics.

The last piece of land in the village belongs to Vukman. He left Kosovo long time ago, when his best friend from the young days raped Rada, his girlfriend. Now, the same woman, together with a young man Nikola, goes to find Vukman, who lives in Vojvodina, in order to bring him back to Kosovo so he could claim his property, for hadžijaBekim wishes to expropriate the land and to use it for building a mosque.

On the road back to Kosovo, in a Jeep pulling a small, mobile, Orthodox church, Nikola finds out that Žana, the daughter of Rada and his beloved, is in fact Bekim's daughter.

In meantime, Žana is being kidnapped by the sons of Bekim, who rape her and sell her as a prostitute; they don't know that she is their half-sister. In a motel where they spent a night, Vukman and Nikola find Žana and manage to set her free. Žana and Rada stay in a monastery, while Vukman and Nikola continue their journey to Vukman's land in order to defend it. Vuk- man, through Nikola, challenges Bekim to a classic duel; the duel results with the death of both Vukman and Bekim, as well as of Bekim's two sons. On his deathbed, Vukman behests Nikola to divide his land in two parts, giving one part to the Albanians, so the feud would come to an end.

Nikola goes to the Albanian funeral, and Talif, a young man of Albanian origin, goes to Vuk- man's funeral. In the last scene, at the Vukman's property, one finds Vukman's grave by the mobile church. Rada, Nikola and Žana (an a ) stand by the grave. The film ends with the sounds of hammering – the Albanians are building a mosque on the other part of Vukman's land. However, the two parts of the land are divided with a barbwire.

Own Master Degree in Film and Television Produc- tion from National Academy (Faculty of Dramatic Arts, Belgrade University) in Serbia, during which she got three Best student Awards and Special Award as student of the year sponsored by EFG Bank.

For past 10 years she had worked as Television Producer (General Manager for Universiade 2009 - IBC, held in Belgrade and Producer for live broad- cast of the Former American president Mr. Bill Clinton visit to Montenegro at 2011).

After many commercials and corporate videos she filmed 3 Internationally recognized feature movies: Wait for me, and I will not come (by MiroslavMom- cilovic), White lions (by Lazar Ristovski), Death of a Man in Balkans (Best camera at Karlovy Vary 2012 by Miroslav Momcilovic).

She also produced few TV Movies and TV serie "Ulicalipa" for National Broadcasting Corp. (RTS). At the summer of 2012.she was participant of Sarajevo Talent Campus during Sara- jevo Film Festival and EAVE training at Palić.

Currently, she is developing three feature films as a freelance producer and works as an inde- pendent producer at her production company Bastards production in Belgrade.

MIRACLE IN CLUJ Writer/Director: Botond Püsök Producer: Melinda Boros

Miracle in Cluj is a realistic comedy/drama, spoken in Romanian and Hungarian, which takes place in Cluj-Napoca, Transylvania. The main character of the film is a working- class mother, who secretly enters a pyramid-game, hoping that she will be able to offer her family a better future. She takes out a bank loan on their apartment and doesn’t say a word to her husband or children, pretending that she’s not up to anything bad. Her monotonous weekdays suddenly become quite adventurous, and her decision creates further conflicts within the family. Will they be able to solve them?

Pyramid-games have created chaos worldwide, even in post-communist Romania, where mil- lions of people got easily trapped by the promise of financial wellbeing. That’s why it’s quite easy to identify with our main character. Nevertheless she’s not motivated by greediness, but the belief that she may be able to ensure her family a stable, happier future.

The film plays on two levels: on the first the relationships between family members are be- coming more and more complicated, while the other works as a social mirror and presents a society which allows and even generates the blossoming of pyramid-games.

Melinda Boros

She’s a graduate of the Sapientia – Hungarian University of Tranylvania, where she majored in Film, Photography and Media studies.

She quickly discovered her area of interest and deepened her knowledge in art film distribution and art cinema management, film funding and production.

Her work experience includes the production of five shorts and two feature films, a project manager, production and distribution assistant job at Argo Audiovisual Association and Cine Corvin Inc respectively.

She now works as head of acquisitions at Clorofilm Inc. Boros took part in several community projects and works as a location and project manager at TIFF Transilvanian International Film Festival.

A small group of hunters meet an old man in the forest in the 1960s. He tells them that he can see into the future. After a few rounds of vodka and lengthy persuasion, he agrees to tell each of them how and when they will die. None of them believe him and go back to their lives.

When the first hunter to die does so exactly how the old man predicted, followed by the next right up to the last man 40 years later, a slightly surreal story begins. It takes a dramatic turn when the last man to die decides to tell his grandson the story. He also tells his grandson that the old man in the forest said that his grandson would have the gift of second sight just like this mysterious man they encountered.

Rob is a sensitive child who has suffered a great deal because his parents have an unhappy relationship, he decides not to 'see' anymore after he and his mother are involved in a serious car accident and she does not survive.

Although born and raised in North America, he spends a lot of time with his grandfather in the Mazury lake region in Poland – these are his happiest times. He has a bad relationship with his father. He decides to start a business with his brother Mikey who has an even worse relation- ship with their father and has long since left the family home upon turning 18.

They start a business together and are very successful. They lead a life of partying and big spending. However they are very different and when they get into a fight and his brother is se- riously injured and ends up in hospital, Rob decides to leave this life and start something new in Poland.

After 2 years, Rob's life has completely changed. He is happier and more at peace. He now rides a bicycle and his hobbies and interests in bikes and music have become more serious. He leads a simple happy life and now has a close friend called Wojtek – a vegan who is very similar to him. They spend a lot of time together.

One day he meets a gypsy at a fair who wants to tell him his fortune. He is horrified and tells her he doesn't want to know anything. But she manages to grab his hand and she tells him he has a gift of second sight and that he will have to face the challenges and find great happiness or suffer tragic consequences.

Rob meets a girl name Ola and falls in love with her. Due to her flighty unpredictable nature, their relationship is exciting but tempestuous. The have great pyrotechnic fights and argu- ments one minute and make great passionate love the next.

One night Rob comes home drunk and has a dream that he is running in a maze with Ola taunting him and sending him in the wrong direction from a place above where she can see everything. He can't seem to get out. When he finally does, she is retreating into the house. He goes after her and finds that the house is nothing but an empty ruin and Ola is gone. Except a voice which sounds like her.

The house is nothing but a shell, like a gutted ruin during the Warsaw Uprising. A barely audi- ble voice tells him that everyone has left this place, that he must too if he wants live.

Rob wakes up in a cold sweat relieved that it was only a dream. He is at a crossroads and has to decide what to do next. 51 Selected Projects

44-year-old play write and 42-year-old oncologist Marie are a married couple. Gabriel had just turned 19 when one day he witnesses from behind a window of an abandoned beach house, how an elderly midwife was performing an illegal abortion on Marie. She was one of Leo’s (Gabriel’s older bother) girlfriends. The bloody scene of a home made abortion marks Gabriel, which fills him with rage and hatred towards his older brother and compassion and love towards his victim, the 17-year-old Marie. The following day, a drunken Leo drowns at sea. After the death of Leo and the torturous abortion, Gabriel and Marie decide to leave France and move to Armenia, their ancestral homeland.

Now, in 2013, The couple is well established in their careers and have a seemingly happy family life. Except, Marie, who will soon be 43, is thinking how a child will make their family more complete. 25 years after being together, Marie gives Gabriel an ultematum. Either he checks his sperm to inseminate her or she gets a private donor. Marie’s one-sided decision becomes a thorn in the couple’s relationship. Gabriel cheats on Marie for the first time with the 26-year-old Janet.

Janet is a dancer. She is commissioned from France to perform in Gabriel’s libretto, where she embodies two charachters: a man and a woman. Dancing as a man, Janet is obliged to wear a tight corset, which causes her unbearable pain. Examination results show that there is a malignant tumor in Janet's right breast. Additional results show that Janet is now in re- mission. What’s more, the results indicate that Janet is actually pregnant.

Gabriel leaves for Montpelier. His father, who is in an old age home located on the Mediterra- nean seashore, is losing his memory. His father does not recognize him, but treats him as Leo. Gabriel is disturbed by the fact. He starts thinking back about how he has lived his life in the shadows of his brother. Three months after his arrival, Gabriel leaves Montpellier. Upon his return, which coincides with his birthday, Gabriel leaves Marie announcing that he will now start living his own life.

Left alone, Marie focuses all her energy on caring for her patient, Janet. Marie and Janet agree to work together and do everything possible to keep the baby healthy. The end of Janet’s remission coincides with her fifth months of pregnancy. Marie's colleagues suggest discussing the termination of the pregnancy with the patient and her relatives. Marie sug- gests that the baby's father may help in the matter. Gabriel, Marie and Janet's meeting at the open-air cafe reveals the secret of this triangle. After their meeting, Marie returns home, alone. Gabriel has rented a cabin near the lake and has been living in solitary. Janet disap- pears from Marie’s life.

After eight months, during one spring night, Marie’s door knocks. At the door stands Janet with a baby in her arms. Janet informs Marie about a dance troupe in her hometown, Lyon, that has offered her a role. She now needs to intensively rehearse to get back on stage. She wans to make sure that she has completely recovered. In the meantime, she asks Marie to be the temporary guardian of the baby until Janet makes all arrangements. After an all nighter, at mid-day, the two women set off to the lake to find Gabriel for Janet to say her goodbye. Gabriel has changed. Janet suspects that the couple has separated. Marie takes the crying baby to the car. Janet and Gabriel are left alone. Janet tells Gabriel that she is dying.

Biography As a founder of Deem Communications, Raffi Niziblian’s accomplishments are in- strumental to his newest professional en- deavor.

Prior to establishing Deem Communica- tions in 2006, Raffi held the title of Com- mercial Manager for VivaCell Mobile Opera- tor. Raffi was vital to the implementation of the company’s commercial operations. By introducing assertive sales techniques and a strategic, nationwide advertising cam- paigns, he earned the “Best New Brand of 2006” awarded from the Ministry of Econ- omy.

As the Program Director for the Land and Culture Organization (LCO), Raffi focused on the promotion, outreach and expansion of this multinational grassroots organization. In Montreal, Canada, Raffi developed the provincial communication plan for Scouts Canada. He also developed new programs reaching multicultural and underprivileged communities. and Raffi also expanded the Community Development Program to hundreds of volunteer participants during his tenure.

Raffi holds a degree in Communications Studies and Community Economic Development from Concordia University. He communicates in five languages. He is the Founding President of Kanachastan, an environmental NGO and a co-founder of the Ad Council of Armenia.

Since 2012 has accepted the position of Executive Producer and International Relations at Prallels film Production LLC.

Melih Ferman’s name is written in golden letters in the history of cinema as a Turkish film- maker. His name has become a big legend in movie circles. The sad part is that Melih died, or was killed, at an early age. “Reprodüksiyon” is a mockumentary that looks into Melih's past and aims to lift the veil of secrecy surrounding the circumstances of his death.

Everything starts with a movie set. As a kid, Melih is very much influenced by what he sees. He decides that he wants to become a director. But his father is afraid of Melih’s imagination. In order to prevent him from taking this path, he takes him out of school. Melih runs away from home without hesitation.

Melihworks in different jobs. However every time his passion to films gets him fired. Finally he finds himself working in a pirated CD shop. First he learns how to capture movies to a com- puter. He starts manipulating the edits and sounds of movies. He adds visual effects. Soon enough, his reproductions start selling more than the original ones. Fame finds him through a film critic. He writes a critic on a “Melih Reproduction” believing he has seen the original film. Melih becomes very famous overnight.

Korsan Baba, the head of the pirated movie scene in the arcade, takes notice first andthreat- ens Melih to work for him. Melih's name is also often referred to in art circles and symposi- ums. During a debate, a famous director becomes delirious with rage. He pulls out his gun and points it at Melih. He accuses Melih of stealing his life.

This event drags Melih into a severe depression. Melih doesn’t leave his shop for days. Even- tually,his father comes to his aid.Melih decides to make his own movie. However, this will not be as easy as it seems. Melih will risk losing himself in pursuing the making of his movie.

Atasay Koç

He graduated from Ankara University Sociology Depart- ment in 2002. His thesis was on “Cinema as a tool of creat- ing public opinion”.

Following his graduation, he attended Cinema Studies pro- gram in FAMU (Film and TV School of Academy of Perform- ing Arts in Prague).

He was a founder “Association of Friends of Cinema”. He made many screenings from World Cinema. He was an edi- tor in chief of a well known cinema magazine called “Sekans”.

He then started his masters degree on Cinema and TV in Istanbul Bilgi University.

He worked as an assistant director in many TV commercials.

Since 2008, he is writing scripts for TV serials. Magnificent Century, Revenge and Waiting For the Sun are some of the famous Turkish TV series he wrote.

His short films competed and won awards in in numerous film festivals both national and international.

His last work is a feature film script called ‘’Reproduction’’ by which he won ‘Best First Script’ award in TURSAK (Turkish Foundation of Cinema and Audio-visual Culture).

STEADY Writer: Razvan Badea

‘Steady’ is a love story born out of the ashes of an emotionally abusive relationship.

After getting a text message from her ex threatening to kill himself in place that had been im- portant for the two of them, Dana goes after him to stop him. Her friend and work colleague, Mircea joins her when he realizes she shouldn’t be alone during such difficult moments.

As they journey through places filled with memories (both pleasant and unpleasant), Dana and Mircea find each other and fall in love. However, their love is threatened by Dana’s resid- ual feelings for her ex, her guilty conscience and the nostalgia of places that aren’t what they seem. With a rich and wild imagination and memories blending past, present and fiction, Dana is continually engrossed in a state that leads her towards self-destruction.

Mircea tries to make her forget her previous relationship and the suffering she went through, even though he doesn’t know much about them because Dana doesn’t like talking about the details. All he has to go on are bizarre memories and mixes of real and fiction.

In the end, they don’t manage to find her ex and Mircea convinces her to move on.

Several days later, Dana gets a call from her ex’s mother and she finds out he did end up dy- ing. She feels free and ready to live in the moment with Mircea.

The film is about a man who doesn't remember anything except last three years. In the last three years, he couldn't find any clue about his life and he couldn't find anybody familiar. The man can foresee some parts of his future in his dreams, but he is unable to control these dreams and doesn't know when they will come true. He tries to find his past with the guide of clues from the future. The most frequently seen dream is “a man in front of a desolated house”. In the first part of the film the man is mostly introvert. We hear from the man's voiceover about his perspective about the other lives and his own life as he spends time in different places. In this period he rejects to communicate with other people and lives in his own world. In this journey he meets some characters who will give direction to his life. One of these is a neighbour with whom they will build a mother-child relationship later on. He finds a therapist with the help of his dreams and they play mind games continously then he has an emotional relationship with the secretary of the therapist. In this part he gives up spending time to look for his unremembered past and tries to settle into a new life. One day, he goes to the therapist's house for medical reasons and he learns that both the man and the therapist have the same tattoo and there is an unknown relation in between and, terrified enough, he gets out of the house. The therapist gets the order from the organisa- tion to get out of the man's life and she gets out of his life taking her secretary with her with the order of erasing the secretary's memories. Meanwhile, the neighbour's mother passes away and the neighbour leaves the town, too which means that the man is alone again. In this while though he can't control what he can see in his dreams, he learns how to elicit more detailed information thanks to a book, again inspired by one of the dreams. Now he starts controlling that ‘man in front of a desolated house” and he manages to reach the house. He discovers that he is the one in those dreams by living the same scene. He finds out some clues regarding a murder of a woman at the house. Then, in another dream he sees, he reaches a businessman. The businessman tells the man what he knows, and tells that only thing he knows is that he has hit to the man and woman's car in an accident, the woman has died in the accident and he has given some money to the man to conceal this incident. At the desolated house to where he has come with the businessman the man starts to talk and ask more, after them the policeman comes into the house and after that they see the woman in front of them, the woman shoots at the businessman and kills him. The woman in- troduces herself as the twin sister who has come for revenge.The man sees himself in front of the woman at the desolated house, he finds the house with the help of his dreams and goes to the house where the woman lives. The woman firstly confesses that she isn't the twin sister but the woman who is thought to be dead. She tells that, firstly she was sent to take him to the or- ganisation and when a love has started between them this time she tried to take him away from the organisation without explaining the organisation to him, and she requested him to control his dreams for the escape plan from the organisation. She continues to tell that he has shot her accidentally in that house, as they were trying to reach the hospital the businessman hit to their car accidentally, everyone thought that she was dead but the organisation took her from the hospital, cured and saved. The woman continues to tell that as far as she knows he has taken money from the businessman to conceal the event and she has been hating him for this reason. In these scenes there is “the mentor” whose voice is heard and who controls and gives orders to the organisation, as well as a blind man and dog the man sees in different times. In the last but one scene we learn that these the people are the same. The mentor tells the man a different reality. In this reality, the man has nothing to do with the organisation, the woman wasn't sent to him to make him a member of the organisation but she was there for them to fall in love, the mentor has designed controlled and destined incidents, the money supplier was not the businessman but the mentor himself, and the man will learn to control to see the future in the way he does in time. Throughout the film, the reality the man reveals is very different as the businessman, the woman and the mentor tell different stories and there is a clue that the ultimate reality could be another reality untold. In the last scene of the film, the man finds the woman in a memory-erased state and tells the woman that he will tell everything she is curious about. The man starts to take first steps of becoming the next mentor and the loop goes on.

THE ONE WITHOUT A SCRIPT Writer: Alpgiray M. Ugurlu Producer: Umut Bayoglu

The human being, receiving the scripts left at his door, lives according to them. It isn't known where, by whom and how the scripts're written. And no other has the conscience to question this.

One morning, copywriter Özgür Başarır (33) doesn't receive his script at his door. This situa- tion, which he thinks as an ordinary mistake, becomes a chaos that continues growing.

The first day script doesn't come. He goes to work the next day, but his ID card is invalid. He is taken under custody after he fights to get in. The crazy man he meets under custody is driven out of the system like him. His talk to the crazy man makes Özgür think that he has two ways to get off the situation he's in; he'll either enter the system back or make the system collapse.

Özgür goes to his father to learn about his past. After the things his father tells him, he goes to the grave of his mother. One think strikes him, all of the graves have the same size. He gets suspicious and digs the grave of his mother and he sees that it is empty.

Özgür goes back home but cannot enter. There are other people living in his home. The only person he can go is his close friend Kemal. Although he believes in Özgür's story, Kemal is scared of defying the system and drives Özgür away from his house.

Wandering around in the streets without knowing what to do, Özgür finds a deserted restau- rant. He rests here for a while, eats and hides. Observing the outside from the restaurant, he realizes how helpless people are and faces the fact that he's one of them and decides to de- stroy the system. He prepares a romantic dinner for Ayşe, his girlfriend and starts his actions by making believe the person closest to him.

At the dinner table, although things go smoothly at first, Ayşe cannot say anything outside the script. Özgür's unable to wake Ayşe up from her sleep and goes back to his father's house in disappointment. They talk about their past with his father. After this conversation Özgür learns that he does not have a past.

Özgür sees that his father's script does not come at the door and notices that his father is dead. He hides away from the officers that come to fetch his father's dead body and finds himself outside again.

Without knowing where to go, after a few days of watching the things around him, he enters into the yard of a luxurious house that he finds. He hides. When the "father of the house" opens the door, Özgür kills him. He wears his clothes and disguises as him. Özgür is now the father of the house.

As if nothing happened, he has breakfast with the family. Everyone acts according to the script. Özgür is caught by officers when he steps outside to go to work.

The system, which replaces Özgür with another father, abandons Özgür in the middle of the desert after a long journey. Özgür is now alone in the middle of nothingness.

Alpgiray M. Ugurlu

Born in Manisa, 1983.

Graduated from Istanbul Technical University Civil Engineering and Istanbul Bilgi University Film and Television Master. He is currently studying Proficiency in Art in Beykent University.

He received several awards for his short films since 2005.

Also directed music video clips and commercials.

His first feature "Overture" was screened in 32th Istanbul Film Festival, 50th Golden Orange Festival (Antalya) in competition, Jagran Film Festival 2013 (Mumbai), and 13th Frankfurt Turkish Film Festival.

He teaches film production during his academic life and works on his second feature.

VEUX-TU M'ÉPOUSER Writer: George Ganea

COLLIN and GRAINNE have been together five years now and he’d like to know how she feels about marriage. She generally tells him that she doesn’t want to get married, but what if she’s waiting for him to pop the question and he can’t read the signs? And the signs start to show up. They go to a wedding and she has the time of her life. After a night of Halo and drinks, one of Collin’s friends advices him to get married. Fast. It only gets better!

He first checks online and after that goes to a jewellery store where he buys her a ring. On Doomsday he wakes up early and on a small patch of clean snow, right under their bedroom window, he draws a man kneeling and a lady in front of the man. He adds a message: Veux-tu m'épouser? When she wakes up, the municipality has cleaned the streets. Collin goes out and buys a blank puzzle and makes his drawing on it. Again, adds the message: Will you marry me? She refuses. He’s vexed. She climbs on a chair and takes down Collin’s suitcase. She throws him out.

MEGANNE is the teacher at the kindergarten in Grainne and Collin’s building. And she was also thrown out by her boyfriend, XOWIE. He brings her to the kindergarten in his taxi. He throws out her suitcases. One opens wide. Collin, who was sitting on the stairs, helps her. Meganne invites Collin to a party she organized for the kids. After the party, they share a ho- tel room. They stay up all night and talk and have fun and decide to move in together. Next day, on their way to the metro, Collin is punched from behind. Meganne is fixing his hair- style, his shirt. She kisses his forehead. She kisses his bruises.

Meganne goes to a speed dating event with her friends LORRAINE and MAKAYLA. The next day they share a taxi. Xowie, the driver, is one of the men both Meganne and Lorraine were supposed to date. Xowie asks Meganne to dinner. She accepts and they have great fun. After a while they move in together.

Xowie changes. After a big loss he comes home drunk and picks on his mother. Meganne finds her on the floor, next to the door, crying, while Xowie is sleeping fully dressed. Days later, Meganne leaves him sleeping and goes to prepare the party at the kindergarten. She spends there all night. Xowie wakes up, can’t find her, gets drunk again.

When she returns Xowie almost forces her into making sex. After he’s done he gets out of bed and he pulls down her suitcase: We’re done. Get dressed. You’re moving out. Back at the kin- dergarten Xowie throws out her suitcases. He drives around town, twice goes back to the kin- dergarten, without going in. Ends up at the betting parlour, looking at the events he bet on the previous day and finds out he got them all right!

Returns to the kindergarten, waits outside, sees the party ending and Meganne and Collin taking a taxi. Follows them to the hotel and sleeps in his car. Next morning he sees them come out, crosses the street and hits Collin. Back in his car he shows Meganne the money. They both cry. Meganne returns to Collin. They squeeze each other with power, like they’d want to become one: I have to go back to him. He’s going to lose all that money and in a few weeks he’s going to need me.

Meganne is back in Xowie’s taxi. He asks her to marry him. She says yes.

WISHING FOR TIME TO STAND STILL Writer/Director: Elena Trapé Co-writer: Miguel Ibáñez Producer: Marta Ramirez

Olivia, Eloy, Guille and Clarice arrive in Berlin with the intention of surprising Comas, a friend of theirs since they were teenagers, on his 35th birthday.

However, he doesn’t receive them as they expected: on the very first night he disappears with- out any explanations and won’t even pick up the telephone. The group’s expectations then start to crumble like a house of cards.

Overwhelmed by her impending motherhood and the forced turn her life is about to take, Olivia wants to have a break, to forget for a few days about the stress and pre-maternal pres- sures brought about by the relationship with her love partner. In Berlin she will find a re- newed passion to recover an old love of hers: in Comas’s house she finds a written agreement which both of them signed fifteen years back whereby they both committed themselves to be together when they turned thirty-five.

Although the personal relationship between Clarice and Guille couldn’t be worst at this point in time, she agrees to accompany him on this journey in the hope of remembering why she fell in love with him. For his part, Guille, in a headlong rush forward, plans to ask Clarice to marry him. When she rejects him, he will have to rethink his life.

For Eloy, being again together with his friends means reliving the happiest days of his life, the days when he was a teenager without worries. And yet, soon enough he will start to feel iso- lated and ignored.

Comas has managed to live a life that isn’t as desirable as he would like it to be, though thanks to it he needn’t be held accountable towards anyone for his acts. He has just broken up with Marion, a German girl who is younger than him, and feels disappointed: the expecta- tions he had when he arrived in Berlin haven’t been fulfilled. And that surprise visit his friends have planned just highlights his feelings of failure.

During that weekend and separately, the four friends will have to confront the disappoint- ment brought about by the fact that they must accept that their lives aren’t what they ex- pected them to be like when they were younger.

Elena Trapé

Writer/director

After getting her in Art History by the UAB (Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona), and having coursed a master in Cultural Management in 2000, Elena Trapé entered in the ESCAC (Escola Superior de Cin- ema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya) determined to be a film director.

In 2004 she graduated in Cinema Direction with her graduating pro- ject I don’t want the night, her first short film in 35mm, for which she received several awards. Pyja- mas (2008) was her second short film in 35mm.

The downfall was her first TV film, shooted in summer 2008 and nominated on the best TV film category at the 2009 Gaudi’s awards.

In 2010 her first feature film, Blog, was released at the San Sebastian International Film Festival (Zabaltegi Section) winning the Otra Mirada Award and nominated as Best Break- out Director at the CEC Prizes (Circle of Cinematographic Critics).

Professionally she combines her activity as a professor in ESCAC with the development of her own fiction projects and the advertisement direction in different productions companies.

Miguel Ibáñez Monroy

Writer

Miguel graduated at ESCAC in 2000, having focused mainly on screenplay writing.

Apart from several television programmes (“Més Dinamita (More Dynamite)”, “La Luai el món” (Lua and the World), etc, he worked as a playwright with the company Comediants as a co-writer of the theatre projects: “Skribo, una aventura caligráfica,” and “Perséfone, variaciones mortales”, both premiered in 2011.

In the field of fiction he has written the scripts for the TV movie projects “Elsmiralls de la Nit” (Mirrors of the Night), produced by Marta Figueras and based on the novel of the same name by Jordi Sierra, and “Agost” (August), produced by Ovideo. Both projects are in development.

Currently, he is also working for Zentropa Spain, writing the script of the screen adaptation of the novel “El año de la Plaga,” by Marc Pastor (published by RBA).

In 2012 he was selected in the Media “AdaptLab” workshop, focused on the screenplay ad- aptation of novels.

Marta Ramirez

Founded in 2014, Coming Soon is a production company aimed at producing fiction feature films, documentaries and TV movies.

Coming Soon will be focusing on the production of independent films by young authors and di- rectors with a new and original outlook, who are open to the public and keen on being pre- sent in leading festivals. Coming Soon will seek coproductions with European and Latin Ameri- can companies to implement projects aimed at the International market.

With over fifteen years’ experience in the sector, Marta Ramírez is the executive producer of Coming Soon.

After studying Audiovisual communication she started working as production and postproduc- tion coordinator. She has worked in several production companies like Oberon Cinematogràfica and Rodar y Rodar, having participated in the production of films such as “La por” (The fear), directed by Jordi Cadena (Valladolid Film Festival), “Dictado” (Childish games), directed by Antonio Chavarrías (Berlin Festival – Official Section), “La teta asustada” (The milk of sorrow), directed by Claudia Llosa (nominated for the Oscar for best foreign language film – Golden Berlin Bear), “Elisa K”, by Judith Colell & Jordi Cadena (San Sebastian Festival – Official Section. Special Jury Award) and “El orfanato” (The Orphanage), by Juan Antonio Bayona, amongst many others.

At the end of the program, the two projects displaying the greatest potential will go on to par- ticipation in Mannheim Meeting Place - the co-production market at IFF Mannheim Heidel- berg (November 2014 – www.iffmh.de/en) or the When East Meets West at IFF Tri- este (January 2015 - http://www.wemw.it/).

The Mannheim Meeting Place (MMP) is perhaps the only co-production market in the world that takes start-up art- house film producers on a co-production matching experi- ence that can last up to 10 weeks each year. It begins each August for a deadline in November. (2014: 10th to 13th November).

Once MMP Project Outlines (pitches written specifically for co-producers) are completed, (* see Co-Producer Guide- lines at http://www.iffmh.de/mannheim-meeting-place/ producer-guidelines-2014) they are sent to relevant minor- ity producers and experts around the world for feedback and improvement. This provides a natural selection proc- ess that determines a place at MMP Mannheim Heidelberg in November 2014.

MMP Residents (industry experts) include world professionals from the Production, Legal, Financial, Literary, Music, Sales, Acquisition and other film industry sectors – so knowledge, talent and feedback are present throughout.

WHEN EAST MEETS WEST is organized by the FVG Audiovisual Fund and the Trieste Film Festival, in collaboration with EAVE, EURIMAGES, and the support of MEDIA Programme, Direzione Centrale per il Cinema – MIBAC and CEI.

The main aim is to bring together every year financiers, decision makers and film professionals coming from Eastern European countries, Italy and another selected Western European region (a different one every year). After a first focus on the French film in- dustry in 2011, the Nordic countries in 2012, the 2013 encour- aged and build up new important connections with the German speaking countries.

WHEN EAST MEETS WEST will include two different actions: 1. Pitching for 20 selected projects; 2. East West Film Forum – framework programme with round tables, presentations, case studies; A special committee formed by EAVE experts and FVG Audiovisual Fund representatives will select 20 projects – feature films and documentaries – in development coming from Eastern Europe, Italy and the German speaking countries. All selected producers will pitch their pro- jects to a large panel of decision makers attending the event and will have the opportunity to set individual meetings. The main aim is to set up a platform where it is possible to meet funds representatives, commissioning editors, sales agents and possible co-producers from both sides of Europe.

Along with the pitching and one-to-one meetings, the East West Film Forum will offer the possibility to explore and know in detail the Eastern and Western audiovisual landscapes through round tables, presentations and case studies. The main goal is to offer a complete and detailed overview of both film industries (with a focus for this 2013 edition on the Ger- man speaking countries), so to offer to all participants the chance to fully understand the co- production and distribution possibilities. 74 Bucharest Information
