The last known death of a person trying to cross the wall was the death of Winfried Freudenburg. This website shows a guard who jumps over to go to West Berlin. His action was widely known and he became a symbol for freedom. This demonstrates one of the last people to be killed trying to go to West Berlin. It would be better if they had a choice, not be forced to live in one area. .
