CRYSTAL PALACE & UPPER NORWOOD 2018 - 2019 Ward Report Councillors Degrads, Mann, Ryan

This report provides a summary of the 2018/19 community ward spend, highlighting some of the outcomes in line the Council’s Corporate Plan commitment and wider approach to a refreshed Community Voluntary Strategy.

Summary: In 2018/19 a total of £ £24,499.80 allocated, with the remaining balance of £824.20 being carried forward to 2019/2020 spend. Allocation of Funding is analysed under 6 categories – i.e. a) Children & Young People b) Health and Well-being c) Culture Sports & Arts d) Work & Career e) Environment & Parks. This has been colour coded for ease of reference and the key is provided below.

CHERRY ORCHARD GARDEN CENTRE Supply of various fruit trees £290.00

CROYDON BOROUGH NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH Fund and Upper Norwood ward version of the Borough- £1,500.00 wide ‘Good Neighbour’ guide. CRYSTAL PALACE & NORWOOD CHAMBER COMMERCE The Event is help promote the town centre on two late evening shopping £110.00 days, 13th December 2018. FRIENDS OF STAMBOURNE WOODS We recently installed two noticeboards with the aim is to place the Tree Trail £1,000.00 maps to show the location of the paths and tree trail. In order to do that we need to accurately mark out the location of the other key specimens and for this we need to buy a GPS monitor and other mapping support.

FRIENDS OF WESTOW PARK The friends of Westow Park organise an annual children & families sports £500.00 evening in the park as part of the Crystal Palace Festival. The event offers local children athletic races, football coaching, tug of war, dance and exercise, boxing, gymnastic and games. It is all free for participants. MOZART PLAYERS This is a classical concert featuring the International Clarinet soloist – Michael £2000.00 Collins. The concert is at St John The Evangelist – Upper Norwood. PRE-SCHOOL Buy IT Equipment, Programmable toys- to teach children how to use £2,000.00 computers and build motor skills. RESURFACE DALE PARK ROAD- UPPERNORWOOD Resurfacing of an adopted road in partnership with the council. £1,399.80 Support the community to improve the quality of lives and access to and from resident’s homes and users of the Allotments. Make the road safer. SE19 LATES- COMMUNITY EVENTS AT NORWOOD HEIGHTS Enabling new community events on the Green at Norwood Heights. The £1,000.00 project will allow temporary public access to allow organised events. The proposal is for funding to allow temporary access, and install and temporary use public entrances within the current low level fence line. THE CRYSTAL PALACE FESTIVAL We are on a mission to bring high quality arts and culture to Crystal Palace £8,000.00 and to engage the community in the festival through a large volunteering programme (approx 200 volunteers), performing and participating in the festival. CRYSTAL PALACE TRANSITION WAY Mentoring Young People: We provide an opportunity for young people to £200.00 volunteer in setting up and setting down the market and some of these young people are vulnerable due to their circumstances and/or learning difficulties. We mentor them in teamwork, timekeeping, interacting with the public and assessing their own strengths and weaknesses and building their skills

UPPER NORWOOD LIBRARY TRUST Maintaining the Library Hub as a going concern for the benefit of local £4,000.00 residents. WADDINGTON WAY RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION Enabling new community events on the Green at Norwood Heights. The £1000.00 project will allow temporary public access to allow organised events. The proposal is for funding to allow temporary access, and install and temporary use public entrances within the current low level fence line. WADDINGTON WAY RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION Developing good neighbouring practices to improve security and social £500.00 interaction. WANDERERS FOOTBALL CLUB Wanderers FC, London's oldest football club, and Virgo Fidelis School, Upper £1000.00 Norwood, have partnered to refurbish their playing fields. Currently underused for school sport, we have crowdfunded to level the surface so that is safe to use, mark out the pitch, install goalposts, corner flags, and netting to avoid losing footballs and protect the hedgerows. We are seeking additional funding to buy age-specific goals so that 11-13 year-olds can use the new pitch too.
