A weekend of latin sounds in ’s Cultural Quarter

MEETING HOUSE SQUARE, FRIDAY 30TH JULY RODRIGO Y GABRIELA, 8PM Rodrigo y Gabriela have been winning over both crowds and critics alike with their unique blend of Latin, jazz and with metal touches. After busking on the streets of the capital shortly after they arrived, they graduated indoors and soon started to make a name for themselves on the Irish live scene, consistently bowling audiences over with their virtuoso guitar playing. Now their reputation is rapidly spreading across the UK after they stunned the crowds at a series of festivals including the aforementioned WOMAD & Leicester's Summer Sundae. Indeed, their mid-afternoon slot in a rammed-full acoustic tent at Glastonbury 2003 is fast becoming the stuff of legend! Followed by: DANCE ALLSTARS Fronted by Singer/Dancer Antonio Oscar from and under the musical direction of drummer Conor Guilfoyle, The group explores the exciting rhythms of Cuba including the latest dance styles that fuse Salsa, Hip Hop and Rap. FRIDAY 30TH JULY: TEMPLE BAR MUSIC CENTRE NORMAN JAY,MBE, 11PM Arguably one of the finest and most respected deejays in the world today whose talents and many years of dedicated service to his profession have now seen him rightfully acknowledged by the highest authority in the land. A self confessed 'Beatle baby' born in Notting Hill, of West Indian parents, the young Jay had unwittingly displayed latent deejaying talents even from the tender age of eight. Labelled as “the DJ’s DJ”, Jay’s “sunshine music” as he describes it, is the transcendent force for good times in any continent - whatever the weather!

Supported by BODYTONIC, 9.30PM Bodytonic is a music collective, established in 2002 with the sole focus of promoting quality dance music through events and club promotions as well as encouraging new DJ’s to play alongside established names. The philosophy is to give people a good time at their parties which have been run throughout , and the USA.

SATURDAY 31ST JULY: MEETING HOUSE SQUARE: TRIO MOCOTÓ, BRAZIL, 8PM Considered by many as the "Fathers of Samba Soul", legendary veteran Brazilian band Trio Mocotó have made a remarkable comeback: they reformed in 2001 after an absence of over twenty years and unleashed the joyful 'Samba Rock' album , which gained them a whole new generation of fans around the globe. The Trio now return with an even stronger, funkier and groovier set from their latest album: "Beleza ! Beleza !! Beleza !!!", which was recorded in São Paulo by the band's revised line-up.

Followed by THE ROKERZ DJs – Claude, Alix and Manu, FRANCE The Rokerz is a big team of amongst the best DJs, label managers, web designers, fashion directors, photographers in Paris. They do monthly parties throughout Paris at Favela Chic or Divan du Monde in a very chic and friendly atmospheres.

SATURDAY 31ST JULY: TEMPLE BAR MUSIC CENTRE: MARTIN MORALES AND FUTURO FLAMENCO CLUB, 11PM London-based DJ, producer and A&R Manager (Outcaste Records) Martin Morales is one of the most exciting and experienced Latin and World Music DJs and is here presenting his Futuro Flamenco Club. His internationally released compilations have gained him an increasingly growing fanbase around the world. His DJ shows at Roskilde and Womad festivals as well as shows in Japan and New York's Central Park Summerstage have brought in a whole new set of admirers. Futuro Flamenco, the monthly night in London run by Martin is one of the most exciting nights in London and will be coming to Temple Bar for one-night only! Support Act: DJ LUBI, 10.30PM Lubi Jovanovic has been working in salsa & for over 20 years as a DJ, journalist, tour promoter, club promoter, and more recently, a CD compiler for Nascente Records. Lubi now runs SALSOUL!, a weekly session in Leeds know as the place where salsa meets soul with its funky fusion of salsa and latin music – r&b latino, Cuban , latin hiphop and salsa dura. Support Act: HAVANA CHÈ, 8.30PM Havana 'che are a 10 piece group playing contemporary Cuban Salsa. A collaboration of the best Cuban and Irish musicians playing Latin music in this country, Havana Chè deliver a high-octane blend of Salsa, Mambo and Rumba that is guaranteed to set the feet moving and the hips swaying with an energy that will waken even the least rhythmic of souls.

SUNDAY 1ST AUGUST: MEETING HOUSE SQUARE: SALSA CELTICA, 9PM It shouldn’t work but it does. Lauded from New York to New Caledonia Salsa Celtica fuse fiery, exuberant Latin rhythms with whirling Scottish folk melodies to create a unique new genre. With their March 2000 album release The Great Scottish Latin Adventure in the top 10 of the European and Canadian World music charts Salsa Celtica have come a long way from their roots playing the bars and clubs of and . The group's mix of all things salsa with its signature of Scottish folk sounds an unlikely mixture, yet has fascinated listeners across the globe, as much in the salsa homelands of Latin America and New York as in the Celtic countries.

Support Act: DJ LUBI and SALSOUL, 8PM Streetsalsa class with Nigel "La Tempesta" Maye and his unique ragga/hiphop meets salsa class to Dublin . Add to this his trademark party-MC business on the mic and funky line-dances!. Be prepared to flex and sweat!

Support Act: ARIEL HERNANDEZ and DERMOT DUNNE, 7PM Tango and jazz-inspired guitar sounds performed from the latest arrival to the Irish music landscape in a unique duet with Ireland’s leading classical accordianist Dermot Dunne.
