In a series of 12 concerts 24 world-famous acts and exciting newcomers will be appearing on stage in the unique intimate club-like setting with candlelight and small tables. The programme includes the finest soul-pop from Emeli Sandé, blues-rock from Jeff Beck, Latin-pop by Alvaro Soler, soul by Seven and country from Kenny Rogers. The future of the popular music festival is assured: Baloise Insurance has ex- tended its partnership as Presenting Sponsor until 2020. A positive signal in a difficult year marked by a major loss: last July festival founder and President Matthias Müller died at the age of 51 after a serious illness. The BALOISE SESSION team will continue to organise the festival in accordance with his wishes. Michael Müller, CEO of Baloise Insurance, commented «Matthias Müller's legacy has a great future, because it has a great provenance. We believe in this unique festival and in the people who have helped to make it so successful in the past and will con- tinue to do so in the future. For these reasons, we have extended our partnership as Presenting Sponsor until 2020.» «In these sad times we are happy to have the support of our loyal Presenting Sponsor, and thank them for their confidence in us. Matthias Müller's vision and enthusiasm will remain an example to us all. With this in mind, we dedicate to Matthias the forthcoming BALOISE SESSION 2016, with spectacular acts like Emeli Sandé, John Newman and Norah Jones: acts which he was so thrilled to have engaged,» says Beatrice Stirnimann, BALOISE SESSION CEO and long-time business partner of Matthias Müller. This year the «OPENING NIGHT» on 21 October is devoted to young artists and soul- ful songs. With hits like «Heaven», «Daddy» and «Clown», overnight sensation Emeli Sandé will be singing her way into the hearts of Basel's public. Keeping her company is the rising young songwriter from Bremen, Joris. Two worlds, two generations, one motto: «LONG LIVE ROCK» on 22 October fea- tures a celebration of rock. Jeff Beck has been a leading guitarist on the British blues and rock scene since the 1960s. And Norwegian singer Sivert Høyem is known for his deep, melancholy voice. On 23 October the BALOISE SESSION invites you to an evening of hot «LATIN RHYTHMS»: Spanish singer Alvaro Soler and guitarists Rodrigo y Gabriela from Mexico guarantee to turn up the heat and bring some Latin fever to autumnal Basel. Session Basel AG 21 October 2016 3 BALOISE SESSION 2016 21 October - 8 November 2016 _________________________________________________________________________________ The evening of 25 October «SOUL DIMENSIONS» sees two exciting personalities take to the stage: Seven, Switzerland's most famous soul singer, is celebrating his 15th year in the business. And British soul singer Laura Mvula stops off in Basel during her current tour to promote her second soul album «The Dreaming Room». On 26 October two avant-garde artists will be conquering Basel – with style and impressive live performances. Under the motto «BACK TO THE FUTURE» the reunited Culture Club, one of the most successful chart-toppers of the 1980s, will be entertaining the audience with old hits and new songs. Before that, Austrian DJ and producer Parov Stelar will fill the Event Hall with electro swing. Two «CHART BREAKERS» and an evening to stir the emotions: both John Newman from Britain and Milow from Belgium already have Top 10 hits under their belts. Now the soul-pop singer and singer-songwriter share the BALOISE SESSION stage on 28 October. «GOOD VIBRATIONS» are coming to Basel on 31 October: Brian Wilson and his Beach Boys composed dozens of classics such as «California Girls» – and with «Pet Sounds» he created one of the most influential albums in pop history, which this year celebrates its 50th anniversary. American surfer and singer-songwriter Donavon Frankenreiter provides the perfect complement to the evening. On 1 November Kaiser Chiefs from Britain and German-Swiss female duo Boy will be showcasing the diversity of «INDIE SOUNDS»: whether soft or loud, introverted or extroverted, what the bands share is their flair for great melodies. Jazz is not just jazz. In the concert entitled «JAZZ VARIETY» on 2 November two completely different interpreters of jazz take the stage: outstanding singer Stacey Kent, and one of the best-known modern jazz bassists, Marcus Miller. A musical treat for all jazz fans! On 5 November the BALOISE SESSION takes to the «COUNTRY ROAD». On the festival's first country evening for five years, none other than Kenny Rogers will be honouring the city on the Rhine with his presence. Brandi Carlile, the wild woman of alternative country rock, will be opening the concert. What could be better than enjoying the wonderful sound of singer and pianist Norah Jones while seated around the table in an intimate club setting? On 7 November the audience in Basel can enjoy this exclusive experience under the motto «DAYBREAKS». First up is the likeable Swiss singer Damian Lynn. On 8 November the BALOISE SESSSION draws to a close with Silbermond, one of the most successful German-speaking pop groups, with their «LEICHTES GEPÄCK». The supporting act this evening is provided by new American discovery Max Jury.
