ALBUM FACTS Genre: Producers: Tony Allen, Fixi Radio Formats: World Packaging Specs: 4/0 digipak, 12-pg 4/4 booklet, 1 disc Description:

"There is no question that Tony Allen is a genius, one of the greatest percussionists in the history of popular music" - The Guardian

Secret Agent, the first World Circuit/Nonesuch release for Nigerian Afrobeat legend, drummer Tony Allen, has already received ecstatic reviews from critics in Europe where it was released in early June of this year. Metro UK declared that "The latest album from born drumming ace reasserts his status as keeper of the Afrobeat key" while Observer Music Monthly said, "If you're wondering why Afrobeat is hip, start here."

Tony Allen has long been acknowledged as Africa's finest kit drummer and one of the continent's most influential musicians. His playing draws on four different styles - , soul/, and traditional Nigerian drumming-a unique and mighty sound. Together with (with whom he played for 15 years) Allen co-created Afrobeat-the hard driving, horn rich, funk-infused, politically insurrectionary style, which became a dominant force in African music and such, an influence worldwide. Afrobeat is currently enjoying an upsurge of interest around the world and for fans of hip-hop, funk and jazz, Tony Allen, holder of the Afrobeat flame, is today revered as its seminal living figure.

‘Secret Agent,' produced by Allen himself, was recorded with his hard-schooled touring band, which comprises musicians from , Cameroon, Martinique and France. The music is squarely in the Afrobeat tradition-combining rhythmic tenor guitar, funky keyboards, soulful call and response vocals, and fat, full-throated hard-riffing horns-with a few twists (including keyboard player and arranger Fixi's accordion on some tracks). At its heart of course, is the beat itself, even more prominent now than it was in Fela Kuti's legendary band Afrika 70. Allen drives the music on, straight as an arrow, in a loose-limbed ragged shuffle, fusing the cross rhythms into one irresistible forward motion.

The songs on Secret Agent stay true to Afrobeat's original, trademark embrace of protest lyrics. "Pariwo" (shout, make some noise) and "Elewon Po" (too many prisoners) urge resistance to oppression. Others like "Nina Lowo" (money is to be spent) and "Atuwaba" (no matter if things are bad, they'll get better), are based on traditional folk proverbs. Some are irresistible exhortations to party - "Ijo" (dance) and "Alutere" (the message the drums transmit) celebrate Afrobeat in general and Allen's genius in particular. "Fela had a different way of writing," says Allen. "He wrote like a singer. I write like a drummer."

Tony Allen will tour North America early this summer. In the meantime, Secret Agent is an invitation from this extraordinary drumming force to look for the familiar in the seemingly exotic. As Q Magazine (UK) put it, "At nearly 70 the man reckons is perhaps the greatest drummer that ever lived is reveling in his heritage, and it's contagious."

ARTIST & INFO Hometown: Nigeria

Born in Lagos, Nigeria in 1940, of mixed Nigerian and Ghanaian parentage, Tony Allen taught himself to play by listening to records made by the American jazz drummers Art Blakey and Max Roach. He began working as a professional musician in 1960, gigging around Lagos and variously playing highlife and jazz. Today living in Paris, Allen has long been acknowledged as Africa's finest kit drummer and one of it's most influential musicians, the man who with Fela Anikulapo Kuti created Afrobeat-the hard driving, funk-infused, and politically engaged style that became such a dominant force in African music and whose influence continues to spread today.

01 Let's Just Fall In Love Again 05 Closer 02 This Heart Of Mine 06 You Can Always Come Home [feat. Serena Ryder] 03 That's What I'm Here For 07 It Matters To Me 04 Love Uncompromised 08 Hallelujah

ALBUM FACTS Genre: Pop Producers: Eric Rosse (, ) Radio Formats: Top 40 Description:

With his rich tenor voice, distinctive looks, and endearingly innocent charm, Jason Castro won over millions of viewers as a contestant on the seventh season of , parlaying his substantial singer- appeal into a third-place runner-up finish. He may not have won the competition, but the 22-year-old Texan earned himself a devoted fan base eager to hear what he would do once freed to perform his own songs. Those folks will get their chance with the release of Castro's self-titled debut album on .

Though rooted in the classic, melody-minded singer-songwriter tradition, with heart-on-sleeve lyrics and acoustic guitar-driven , the album brims with toe-tapping pop (first single "Let's Just Fall In Love Again," "This Heart Of Mine"), strummy folk ("That's What I'm Here For," the lilting "If I Were You"), and electrifying rock ("Closer," "Heart of Stone") - all cleverly balanced with unabashedly emotional tunes like "Love Uncompromised," "It Matters To Me," "You Can Always Come Home," and a stunning version of Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" (which Castro performed on Idol, citing Jeff Buckley's version as a huge inspiration to him as an artist).

To capture the moods he wanted, Castro collaborated with producer Eric Rosse (Sara Bareilles, Tori Amos) and a host of top-notch - including Marc Roberge of O.A.R., Gregg Wattenberg (), Zac Maloy (David Cook), and Espionage (Train) - all of whom helped Castro create an earthy showcase for his considerable gifts as a vocalist, songwriter, and musician, not to mention the warmth and sincerity that shines through everything he does. "I feel like the album really captures my personality," Castro says. "People got to know me a bit on the show, so I wanted to build on that by including all these songs I've written about my life. I wanted to share with people the things that are meaningful to me."

ARTIST & INFO Hometown: Rockwall, TX During his junior year at Texas A&M University, Castro auditioned and earned a slot on American Idol where he delighted viewers with a number of memorable performances accompanying himself on acoustic guitar (the show's first-ever contestant to play an instrument onstage). Castro's rendition of the Leonard Cohen classic "Hallelujah" proved such an audience favorite that Jeff Buckley's cover of the song hit No. 1 on the iTunes chart the following week, selling an astonishing 178,000 digital singles, and propelling the song to platinum status. Castro scored a chart-topping single of his own with his ukulele-accompanied interpretation of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," which hit No. 1 on iTunes after his stunning performance.

ALBUM FACTS Genre: Children Producers: Produced, recorded, mixed & mastered by Sudhananda at Dragonfly Studio, Redway CA Packaging Specs: 4 panel gatefold mini jacket Focus Markets: Coming soon... Description: After being told repeatedly by fans that they like to play his instrumental recordings as they fall asleep, Paul Greaver decided to create a recording with that sole purpose in mind. He was inspired to lovingly create a CD that expressed appreciation for the intimate time when listeners are crossing the magical threshold between being awake and asleep. Using the intimacy of a solo acoustic guitar, he creates a calm, peaceful space to drift away into the land of dreams. Paul arranged traditional lullabies and related songs from a variety of cultures and designed the CD to be a soothing, gentle, innocent, elegantly pure and simple recording to be enjoyed by children as well as adults.

ARTIST & INFO Hometown: Orno, Maine Kalamazoo, Michigan Redway CA (present) Paul Greaver grew up in Maine and Michigan. He received creative stimulation in an artistic family and took up guitar at 8 years of age. He studied classical guitar intensely through his teens and soon became a virtuoso, all the while writing songs and pursuing his love for other kinds of music.

After high school he continued his studies at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and the North Carolina School of The Arts where he graduated with a BM degree. After music school he changed directions and concentrated on writing his own music, which allowed him the freedom to cross musical borders and integrate diverse musical styles.

In the 1980's & 90's Paul, also known as Sudhananda, had four instrumental guitar recordings which were released by record labels under the names Paul Greaver and Antar. In 1998 he released a self titled CD of his own songs that reflect on themes of spirititual, ecological, and social consciousness.

In 1999 Paul moved to the woods of Northern in Southern Humboldt County where he's been engineering, producing & mastering recordings for Music For Little People.

"This album captures so many magical moments, the best times I've ever had as a musician," declares singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant of Leave Your Sleep, her ambitious, two-disc Nonesuch debut. Merchant, celebrated solo artist and the one-time voice of 10,000 Maniacs, took on what could have been a daunting task: she's adapted 19th and 20th century British and American poetry -- well-known and obscure work, anonymous rhymes, children's lullabies, all of it timeless material full of direct emotion -- and fashioned new songs from these words. Among the poets she chose were Robert Graves, Charles Manley Hopkins, Edward Lear, Ogden Nash, and Robert Louis Stevenson. The project, five years in the making, has clearly had a liberating effect on Merchant. Never has she sounded so free-spirited, so full of musical adventure, whether backed by small jazzy combos or elegant chamber ensembles. The tracks she's created range from exotic ("The King of China's Daughter") to earthy ("Peppery Man"), soothing ("I Saw A Ship A-Sailing") to swinging ("The Janitor's Boy"), mischievous ("It Makes A Change") to moving ("Spring and Fall"). The string arrangements are particularly stirring, recalling Joshua Rifkin's now-classic work on Judy Collins' Wildflowers.

There's plenty of child-like wonder, counterbalanced with grown-up sophistication. Says Merchant, "It was an exciting, new approach for me to work with rhythm and rhyme schemes created by other writers. The poems inspired vastly different musical settings with their themes that ranged from humorous and absurd to tragic, romantic, and deeply spiritual. Over the course of three years I wrote 40 of these poem-songs and 30 were eventually recorded."

Merchant co-produced Leave Your Sleep with Venezuelan musician- Andres Levin, a frequent collaborator of and Arto Lindsay, and one of the creators of the eclectic Red Hot charity series. Over the course of a year's worth of exhilarating, musically shape-shifting sessions, they drew upon no less than 125 musicians from the varied worlds of, among other things, Cajun, country, jazz, chamber music, R&B, Celtic, and reggae. The revitalized Merchant explains, "I called on old friends and approached many new musicians I only knew through admiring their work... The sessions were recorded in live ensemble workshop settings that captured pure and authentic sounds played with incredibly fresh and spontaneous energy."

Leave Your Sleep is an inspired return for Merchant, her first studio album in six years - an effort long awaited by her considerable fan base. It also marks her 25th year as a uniquely successful major-label artist, one whose work has consistently enjoyed equal measures of commercial and critical success. Though she has regularly lent her talents over the last few years to the many nonprofit causes she supports, Merchant has actively returned to the concert stage in recent months, previewing material from Leave Your Sleep, on a series of dates in England and continental Europe. A full U.S. tour is being planned for summer 2010.

Founded at Indiana University in the fall of 1996, Straight No Chaser's goal was to expand the boundaries of the traditional college a cappella group. In 1999, the graduating members of Straight No Chaser chose their replacements, ensuring that the new tradition they had created would continue on with successive generations of IU . Then, in 2006, Indiana University decided to host a reunion concert for the original members. In honor of the event, Randy Stine posted footage from one of their 1998 online.

To the group's surprise, Straight No Chaser's version of "The 12 Days of Christmas" - interpolating Toto's "Africa" - became the hottest viral video of the holiday season. Among those millions of viewers was Atlantic Records Chairman/CEO Craig Kallman, who tracked the group down and promptly signed them to the label.

The birth of Straight No Chaser's second life is a story of talent, drive, and some very good luck. But their goal remains the same as it was back in their college days. As Stine says, "We want the audience to not miss the instruments, be surprised by what we're doing, and in the end, appreciate the songs in a whole new way."

"HOLIDAY SPIRITS," the group's 2008 ATCO/Atlantic debut, saw Straight No Chaser re-energizing holiday classics such as "Jingle Bell Rock," "Carol of the Bells," and "Auld Lang Syne" with their captivating and powerful vocal arrangements. Fueled by appearances on ABC World News Tonight, CNN Headline News, and NBC's Today, among others, the album spent 14 days in the #1 slot on Amazon, and 5 days at the top spot overall on iTunes. ALBUM FACTS Genre: Rock Producers: Billie Joe Armstrong Rob Cavallo Green Day

ARTIST & INFO Hometown: Oakland, California Childhood friends Billie Joe Armstrong (guitar, vocals) and Mike Dirnt (bass) formed their first band, Sweet Children, in Rodeo, California when they were 14 years old. By 1989, the newly renamed Green Day independently released their first EP, 1,000 Hours, which was well-received in the punk scene. Soon, the group had signed a contract with the local independent label, Lookout! Records. 39/Smooth, Green Day's first album, was released later that year. Shortly after its release, the band found their permanent drummer, Tre Cool.

Throughout the early '90s, Green Day continued to cultivate a cult following, which only gained strength with the release of their second album, 1992's Kerplunk. The underground success led to a wave of interest from major record labels; and the band eventually signed with Reprise.

ALBUM FACTS Genre: Rock Producers: Michael "Elvis" Baskette Radio Formats: Mainstream Rock, Heritage Rock, Metal Focus Markets: , Philadelphia, Lansing, Pheonix, Des Moines, Puerto Rico, Chicago, Boston, Minneapolis, Dallas, Albuquerque, Salt lake city, & Denver. Description:

Ratt flew to a remote area of Virginia Beach in spring 2009 to work on new songs. They stayed in a four bedroom house there and wrote on their own schedule, banging out riff after riff and molding them into tunes quickly and with great enthusiasm. “We literally ate, slept and did everything right there, and it was great fun,” DeMartini says. “We would stay up as late as we wanted and work as late as we wanted and wake up when you want and eat something and get right back to it. It was really cool; there were even a couple of engineers that lived close by. It felt like going to an oasis to be creative.”

ARTIST & INFO Hometown: Los Angeles, CA Band Members: (vocals), Warren DeMartini (guitar), (drums), (guitar), (bass) Ratt helped pioneer Hollywood’s legendary Sunset Strip sound and scene. The band has returned sounding fired up and better than ever. Ratt’s first studio album in 11 years, Infestation, is a return to their heavy, riff driven roots. The band has reinvented their sound by rediscovering their strengths, shuttling listeners to a time when metal ruled the earth and real musicians wore eyeliner like a badge of honor. “We wanted this to be like something that we would have written right after [1984’s] , says vocalist Stephen Pearcy. “We definitely went back to basics with the mindset of a band with a lot of excitement and some great songs to get out.”

Castro scored a chart-topping single of his own with his ukulele-accompanied interpretation of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow," which hit No. 1 on iTunes after his stunning performance.
