Si la transition du bord du fleuve Jaune à la vallée de la Loire s'est réalisée non sans difficulté, celle vers le fleuve Saint-Laurent a été encore plus chargée de défis. Martin, merci de m'avoir écoutée, aidée et soutenue tout au long de mon séjour au Québec. Je suis impressionnée par le sérieux avec lequel tu assumes tes responsabilités envers tes étudiant.e.s, moi-même y compris. Ton expertise, dont je bénéficie depuis · trois ans, m'a permis de mieux connaître la société québécoise des années 1960 et 1970, de structurer mes réflexions et de développer un esprit critique à l'égard des sources et de l'historiographie. Somme toute, mes projets de recherche et de stage n'auraient pas pu se réaliser sans vos encouragements et vos soutiens. En août 2015, j'ai été généreusement accueillie au Centre d'histoire des régulations sociales (CHRS). À cet égard, je dois remercier les collègues et les amies, amis que j'y ai côtoyé.e.s. Je tiens spécialement à exprimer ma gratitude à Annie Lyonnais. Les soupes-dis~ussions que nous avons eues sont tellement enrichissantes ! Sans ton écoute, ton soutien et ta compassion, je n'aurais pas pu aller jusqu'au bout. Il a fallu du temps pour apprendre à se connaître. The Chinese government’s foreign influence activities have accelerated under Xi. China’s foreign influence activities have the potential to undermine the sovereignty and integrity of the political system of targeted states. Conference paper presented at the conference on “The corrosion of democracy under China’s global influence,” supported by the Taiwan Foundation for Democracy, and hosted in Arlington, Virginia, USA, September 16-17, 2017. Key points: • CCP General Secretary Xi Jinping is leading an accelerated expansion of political influence activities worldwide. • The expansion of these activities is connected to both the CCP government’s domestic pressures and foreign agenda. • The paper creates a template of the policies and modes of China’s expanded foreign influence activities in the Xi era. • The paper uses this template to examine the extent to which one representative small state, New Zealand, is being targeted by China’s new influence agenda. Executive Summary In June 2017 the New York Times and The Economist featured stories on China's political influence in Australia. Hazen Edward Sise was born in Montreal and educated at the Royal Military College, McGill University School of Architecture, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology School of Architecture. Sise apprenticed with the influential Le Corbusier in Paris in 1930 and participated in the "Rejected Architects Exhibition" in New York City. He returned to Europe to work, first in Paris in 1931, then in London from 1933 to 1936. In December 1936 Sise met Dr. Norman Bethune and joined his Hispano-Canadian Blood Transfusion Institute in the Spanish Civil War. When Sise returned to Montreal in November 1937 he became active in the Committee to Aid Spanish Democracy, the Friends of the Mackenzie-Papineau Battalion and H.W.

Each resistance movement since 1949 has had to start from scratch as its actors, isolated from the past, always saw themselves as innovators. The paper analyses the 1957 Anti-Rightist Movement and the 1989 pro-democracy demonstrations to illustrate the thesis. ach of China’s dynasties has sought to legitimize its rion for promotion in the bureaucracy — the earlier one power through new interpretations of history.
