  • 3 February 2006 Maserati Celebrates Its Champions
Date: 3 February 2006 Maserati celebrates its Champions Trident Drivers and Teams from last Season. First look at 2006 Programme. The prize giving ceremony to award drivers and teams who competed in a Maserati car in 2005 takes place this evening in Modena. At international level, Maserati won the FIA GT Constructors' title thanks to the efforts of Vitaphone Racing Team and JMB Racing. Further, the Vitaphone Racing Team triumphed in the Team championship and in the prestigious 24 Hours of Spa, claiming Maserati's first ever win in a 24-Hour race. The Michael Bartels/Timo Scheider/Eric Van de Poele squad crossed the line ahead of the other MC12 driven by Bertolini/Wendlinger/Peter. It was a clear demonstration of the reliability of the cars bearing the Trident badge. In total, there were three wins aside from that claimed at Spa: Magny Cours courtesy of Andrea Bertolini/Karl Wendlinger; at Oschersleben with Fabio Babini/Thomas Biagi; and at Istanbul where Michael Bartels/Timo Scheider took the chequered flag. In the Italian GT championship, team Racing Box finished in second place overall thanks to five wins obtained by Piergiuseppe Perazzini/Gabriele Matteuzzi. Another significant result was secured at the 6 Hours of Vallelunga, a 'classic' endurance race that is run at the end of the season. Here, the winning crew was made up of Davide Mastracci/Michele Serafini/Leonardo Maddalena. In the Trofeo Nazionale CSAI GT3, the Maserati Lights stormed a path through the competition with three cars that secured all the places on the championship podium. Andrea Palma and Danilo Zampaloni were the overall winners in their AF Corse car.

Date: 26 July 2007 Maserati competitive after the first free practice sessions at Spa The FIA GT championship is about to enter its most important weekend of the season: the Spa 24 Hour. The classic Belgian endurance race will be especially competitive this year given the high level of the crews that have entered. The Maserati MC12s have been in good form on the past two occasions the race has been run. They claimed a great one-two in 2005 (first place for Bartels/Scheider/Van de Poele, second for Bertolini/Wendlinger/Peter). 2006 was another fantastic year with Bartels/Bertolini/Van de Poele's success at the end of a thrilling tussle with the Aston Martin fielded by Phoenix Racing. The Vitaphone Racing Team, winners in both 2005 and 2006, will have Bartels/Biagi/Van De Poele/Lamy in the number 1 MC12. Taking care of the drive in the number 2 car will be the Ramos/Montanari/Bobbi/Lémeret crew. The driver from Belgium will once more be flanked by Michael Bartels, who he topped the podium with in the last two races. Pedro Lamy will be climbing into the MC12 again after his victory in the 6 Hours of Vallelunga in 2006 when in Racing Box colours. Matteo Bobbi, the 2003 FIA GT champion alongside Thomas Biagi, will be making his debut in the Modenese GT. Another driver making his first appearance in the MC12 is Stéphane Lémeret, the Belgian who took second in the last 24 Hours. The Scuderia Playteam Sarafree will be appearing for the first time at Spa in the FIA GT.

1967 / 1976 Three Ferraris, two 330 P4s and a 412 P secure the first three places in the 1967 24 Hours of Daytona Ferrari’s refusal to agree to sell the company to Ford in 1963 gave rise to an intense sporting rivalry, with endurance races serving as the backdrop for the many duels between these two giants. In the 1963, ‘64 and ‘65 editions of the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Ferrari dominated the podium. However, in 1966, it was the turn of the more powerful Fords. The two headed to Daytona in early 1967 for the first round of the International Constructors’ Championship (as the World Sport Championship was renamed for two years), with two separate classifications for GTs and prototypes. In order to close the gap on Ford, Ferrari spent the winter of 1966 working hard in Maranello. The new 330 P4 was designed by Mauro Forghieri, with a number of P3 models being updated too, becoming 330 P3/ P4s. The abbreviation 412 P identified the customer version of the latter vehicle. Intended for use by private teams, it lacked a number of strategic components such as the injection system, which was replaced by normal carburettors. The 330 P4 boasted sophisticated aerodynamics, developed in the wind tunnels at Pininfarina and at the Polytechnic in Stuttgart, Germany, the city where both Mercedes and Porsche are based. The P4 had a lower Cd than its predecessors, with greater downforce and a very low nose section. The 4-litre, 450 hp V12 engine featured double overhead camshafts and 3 valves per cylinder.

  • Sam Posey's BMW Days.. .And Nights the Sole American on BMW's Legendary IMSA Team of 1975, Sam Posey Brought Talent and Charisma to the Motorsport Campaign
people Sam Posey's BMW days.. .and nights The sole American on BMW's legendary IMSA team of 1975, Sam Posey brought talent and charisma to the Motorsport campaign. By William Edgar Photography by Willlam Edgar, courtesy BMW NA mong BMW fans, Sam Posey may have gained his biggest fame rac- ing BMW's so-called "Batmobile" CSL coupes during the mid-1970s, but Posey is far more than just a racing driver. He's a man of remarkable versatility and expres- sion, traits that began in a youthful gift for words and art, and which took form, from adolescence on, in an escalating love of cars. His earliest, a home-built coaster named for a Connecticut lake edging the family estate, gave Sam hsfirst grasp of wheeled control and speed. What he called "The Mudge Pond Express" would serve again years later as the title for his stunning autobiography. Posey's candid book reveals an ungainly, overweight lad of patrician privilege who discovers both discipline and joy in the unlikely and perilous world of motor racing. Its pages have long delighted readers with his motorsport experiences, transporting them through the years from next-door Lime Rock to more distant Watkins Glen, Nassau, Sebring, Indianapolis, far-off Australia and Le Mans. Its chapters end where this story begins, at Kyalami, the South African grand , prix circuit to which Sam was summoned to test for what would become not only a sem- 7 inal step in his driving career, but an auspi- h cious American debut for BMW racing. To put BMW on the North American map, Motorsport brought over its ETCC- winning CSLs and readied them for IMSA competition in 1975.
