The 918 Spyder. It’s not the easiest thing to write sports car history and, at the same time, redefine the future of the sports car. However, our engineers would not be happy with anything less. The goal was clear: a super sports car. The parameters: the most efficient drive possible combined with an extremely high output. The initial spark: a high-performance hybrid with a highly emotive V8 racing engine and two additional electric machines (motors/generators). The crucial step: the combination of three drives delivering a total output of 652 kW (887 hp) with incredible torque of up to 1,280 Nm. The car also represents the future of efficiency. Thanks to a series of measures, such as recuperation, the electric machines help to reduce fuel consumption to just 3.3–3.0 litres per 100 km when an efficient driving style is adopted. ‘E-boost’ and an additional output of 210 kW (286 hp) are also included. The map switch controls four different driving modes plus a ‘Hot Lap’ configuration to ensure optimum interaction between the electric machines and combustion engine depending on the driving scenario and style. Simply groundbreaking. Our engineers then went one step further. The 918 Spyder features an extremely lightweight construction derived from the world of motorsport. Both the load-bearing structures of the 918 Spyder, the monocoque and subframe, and its outer skin are made of carbon fibre-reinforced polymer (CFRP). Combined with high-end technologies such as rear-axle steering, active aerodynamics and the first ‘top pipes’ ever featured on a production vehicle one thing is clear: pioneering performance is no longer a thing of the future – it’s right here, right now. 918 Spyder1): fuel consumption combined: 3.3–3.0 l/100 km · CO2 emissions combined: 79–70 g/km · power consumption: 13.0–12.5 kWh/100 km. 04 05 >> 918 Spyder << A father from Weissach. A mother from Le Mans. The 918 Spyder and motorsport tradition. The 918 Spyder possesses all the qualities of a flawless racing car: performance, efficiency, lightweight construction, purism. Along with something very special: history. It all began with a white piece of paper on which the 918 Spyder was created from scratch. In order to understand the direction the 918 Spyder is taking in the 21st century, it’s useful to take a look back at our racing past. Porsche has always been closely linked with motorsport. Since 1948 – and from the very first second. Back then, it was a racing version of the Porsche 356 that secured a class win at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. One of the first of more than 30,000 victories on the track to date. The principle remains the same today: small, agile sports cars with a comparatively low cubic capacity, but a great deal of eagerness to perform. This pinprick strategy soon turned into sporting dominance. 1970 and 1971 saw the start of a new era in Le Mans with formidable overall wins by the Porsche 917. With the 918 Spyder, Porsche has taken this heritage and applied it to the road. 918 Spyder1): fuel consumption combined: 3.3–3.0 l/100 km · Another model from which the 918 Spyder is derived: the RS Spyder. Its V8 unit formed the basis for the high-revving engine in the performance hybrid. CO2 emissions combined: 79–70 g/km · 918 Spyder in Porsche Salzburg film-coated decals power consumption: 13.0–12.5 kWh/100 km. The carbon fibre monocoque laid important foundations for the body design and its lightweight chassis provided the template for the 918 Spyder chassis concept. • The Porsche Type List
The Porsche Type List When Professor Ferdinand Porsche started his business, the company established a numeric record of projects known as the Type List. As has been reported many times in the past, the list began with Type 7 so that Wanderer-Werke AG did not realize they were the company’s first customer. Of course, as a result, Porsche’s famous car, the 356 as defined on the Type List, was actually Porsche’s 350th design project. In reviewing the Porsche Type List enclosed on this website, you might notice several interesting aspects. First, although there is a strong chronological alignment of Type numbers, it is certainly not perfect. No official explanation exists as to why this occurs. It is possible that Type numbers were originally treated only as an informal configuration and data management tool and today’s rigorous examination of Porsche history is but an aberration of 20/20 hindsight. Secondly, you might also notice that there were variations on Type List numbers that were probably made rather spontaneously. For example, consider the Type 60 with its many “K” variations to designate different body styles. Also consider how the Type 356 was initially a tube frame chassis then changed to a sheet metal chassis with the annotation 356/2 but the /2 later reused to describe different body/engine offerings. Then there were the variants on the 356 annotated as 356 SL, 356A, 356B, and 356C designations and in parallel there were the 356 T1 through 356 T7 designations. Not to mention, of course, the trademark infringement threat that caused the Type 901 to be externally re-designated as the 911.

Press Release March 16, 2019 Race GT, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, round 2, Sebring/USA Super in Sebring: Porsche also wins the twelve-hour race Stuttgart. Porsche has notched up yet another victory at the “Super Sebring” race weekend. Nick Tandy (Great Britain) and his French teammates Patrick Pilet and Frédéric Makowiecki took the flag in first place in the Porsche 911 RSR at the twelve- hour race of the IMSA Weathertech SportsCar Championship. A day earlier, the ca. 510 hp racing car from Weissach had won both GTE classes at the 1,000-mile race of the Sports Car World Endurance Championship WEC. The No. 912 sister car driven by Earl Bamber (New Zealand), Laurens Vanthoor (Belgium) and Mathieu Jaminet (France) finished the thrilling long-distance classic in the USA on fifth place. Early on in the race, lack of grip in the heavy rain initially threw both Porsche 911 RSR down the field. As conditions improved at the half-way point of the race, the experienced Porsche GT Team utilised every last strength of the car. Thanks to great tactics, top-class driving and flawless teamwork, the No. 911 car fought its way back into the lead. In a gripping finale, Nick Tandy fended off all attacks and crossed the finish line after twelve hours with a 1.951-second lead. • 3 February 2006 Maserati Celebrates Its Champions
Date: 3 February 2006 Maserati celebrates its Champions Trident Drivers and Teams from last Season. First look at 2006 Programme. The prize giving ceremony to award drivers and teams who competed in a Maserati car in 2005 takes place this evening in Modena. At international level, Maserati won the FIA GT Constructors' title thanks to the efforts of Vitaphone Racing Team and JMB Racing. Further, the Vitaphone Racing Team triumphed in the Team championship and in the prestigious 24 Hours of Spa, claiming Maserati's first ever win in a 24-Hour race. The Michael Bartels/Timo Scheider/Eric Van de Poele squad crossed the line ahead of the other MC12 driven by Bertolini/Wendlinger/Peter. It was a clear demonstration of the reliability of the cars bearing the Trident badge. In total, there were three wins aside from that claimed at Spa: Magny Cours courtesy of Andrea Bertolini/Karl Wendlinger; at Oschersleben with Fabio Babini/Thomas Biagi; and at Istanbul where Michael Bartels/Timo Scheider took the chequered flag. In the Italian GT championship, team Racing Box finished in second place overall thanks to five wins obtained by Piergiuseppe Perazzini/Gabriele Matteuzzi. Another significant result was secured at the 6 Hours of Vallelunga, a 'classic' endurance race that is run at the end of the season. Here, the winning crew was made up of Davide Mastracci/Michele Serafini/Leonardo Maddalena. In the Trofeo Nazionale CSAI GT3, the Maserati Lights stormed a path through the competition with three cars that secured all the places on the championship podium. Andrea Palma and Danilo Zampaloni were the overall winners in their AF Corse car.

  • Michelin Notches up Its 20Th Consecutive Le Mans Success
MEDIA INFORMATION 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) Round 3: 24 Hours Le Mans Michelin notches up its 20th consecutive Le Mans success After providing Michelin with the first of its recent sequence of victories at Le Mans with Laurent Aïello, Stéphane Ortelli and Allan McNish in 1998 (Porsche 911 GT1-98), Porsche fittingly earned the French tyre firm’s 20th straight victory in the endurance racing classic today. This time round, it was Timo Bernhard, Earl Bamber and Brendon Hartley (N°2 Porsche 919 Hybrid) who claimed the discipline’s most prestigious prize after winning the weekend’s drama-packed race which was led during the hours of darkness by the N°1 Porsche 919 Hybrid (Jani/Lotterer/Tandy), in the wake of the near-simultaneous retirements of the N°7 (Conway/Kobayashi/Sarrazin) and N°9 (Lapierre/Kunimoto/Lopez) Toyota TS050-Hybrids, and after the long period spent by the N°8 Toyota (Buemi/Davidson/Nakajima) in its pits to resolve a technical issue. During this time, the N°2 Porsche concentrated on its bid to recover the chunk of time it had lost on Saturday evening while curing a technical problem. Undeterred, and after the race had been led briefly by an LM P2 prototype, the three drivers went on to emerge at the top of the order with one hour remaining. Since the beginning of its uninterrupted sequence of 20 Le Mans victories in 1998, Michelin has won the Le Mans 24 Hours in association with Audi, Bentley, BMW, Peugeot and Porsche. And prior to that, it won the French marathon with McLaren, Mercedes, Alpine-Renault and Chenard & Walcker.
