The main aim of the competition is to use their entrepreneurial and business skills to be able to run the event, with a presentation at the end to link to business theory and evaluate the success of their idea. The first group decided to do a Valentine’s Day Heart Delivery Service and cake sale. With some very hard work from the group they managed to raise a total of £90.60 over the 2-day event and delivered am sure it will be a success. They are due to also hear from Oxford Brookes University. Mrs Dickson Careers Leader currently making their GCSE choices and with this in mind, these conversations with the businesses proved very useful. The new Career Strategy recommends that all secondary school students have a meaningful interaction with someone from business every year. These interactions not only inspire young people but also challenge pre-conceived ideas about jobs. Having the opportunity to talk to people in a variety of roles, helps the students to build knowledge and understanding of the range of careers available. 6 Term 4 2018 www.henrybox.oxon.sch.uk WEST OXFORDSHIRE SWIMMING GALA Our teams performed brilliantly at the West Oxon gala on 7th February. There were many outstanding performances both in individual and relay races, most notably Lauren Mellings setting a new West Oxon record for U16 girls’ backstroke and Jonathan Opalczewski for U14 boys’ butterfly. The U16 girls finished first and the U14 and U12 girls finished as runners up. All three teams have qualified for the County stage of the School Games Finals. Ms Vickers Teacher Physical Education ATHLETICS CHAMPIONSHIP The PE Department took four teams to the West Oxfordshire Sportshall Athletics Championship last week. The Year 7 girls’ and boys’ teams, and the Year 8 girls’ team ran, jumped and threw themselves into a commendable 4th place position in each of their competitions - with some very exciting 1st and 2nd place finishing positions in their individual races.
