From the Office

Subs Subs are due! We are going to start resigning those that have not made payments so if you need options please come see us and we can help sort what works for you.

Weekends are hectic! We’re very busy these days, and things are getting congested at the Pro Shop Our day starts at 7.30am on Saturday and Sunday, if staff have the door closed and locked its most likey to set up for the day getting carts and cash out. We will not open the office while the safe is open so please don’t ask us to. We will not open the doors until we have all carts out for the day so please stand clear and give us a moment the more you stand in the way or stop to chat the longer it takes. If you are in a hurry grab an envelope and write your competitions for the day on that put your money in it (or pay on your way past after 9 holes). No envelope or paper stating what your in = No scramble entry. A big thank you to the Wednesday Haggle Group for your patience every wednesday when we pull carts out and set up by standing back and joking the way you do its very much appreciated and makes the day a breeze Thank you!!!

Men’s match draw info If you have played a match please remember to update the draw sheet in the office with the match winner. We can’t answer queries over the phone about times/names and draw if we don’t have the updated details.

Men’s Pennants Results

Both men’s teams played well and had respectable results in the face of very hard competition from the other Auckland clubs. Both teams made their semi finals. The Seniors team lost to Windross, but did well and should be congratulated for their performance Our other team played Pukekohe in their semi-final and got to a play off with Pukekohe winning on the 3rd play off hole. Thanks to the teams for their efforts on behalf of the club and a special shout out to Graham Maisey for his long drive up from Palmerston North to make the last match!

Women’s Pennants Results

Thanks and congratulations to the ladies who have represented the club in the Auckland pennants this year. The early starts and long drives to the city make this competition extra hard.

Section A: Onewhero #2 team came 3rd Section B Onewhero #1 came 5th

Juniors

Onewhero Junior boys have represented our club with some great golf recently at the junior development quad tournaments. Mr HIRA and Mr PRESTON representing Auckland and Mr PUTOHE representing Waikato.

Auckland Junior boys beat the Bay of Plenty 9-1 and claimed the trophy. Waikato beat North Harbour 5.5 to 4.5, to finish 2nd overall. Mr HIRA winning 2 out of 3, and Mr PRESTON and PUTOHE winning 1 of 3 each.

Medical Alert

Covic on Friday 23rd April and we had an eventful day. Onewhero won their matchplay and won the day so congratulations team great work. Then to add to the commotion we had a medical emergency. A gentleman had a heart attack on the balcony, emergency services were called and an ambulance and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter came out. Next time you’re here see if you can see any marks in front of the ladies tee on the first. The gentleman was not a member here but had played a great round and then felt weak and unwell, He was flown to Auckland and survived his surgery. He is now in recovery with his family.

Bit of a reminder to please pay attention to your body and see the doctor if you feel unwell, better a false call than the last call.

In Memoriam Recent weeks have seen the passing of two past presidents, Doug Alexander and Pat Wootton. Both men were valued members of the club and contributed greatly to the success of Onewhero Golf Club, condolences to their families, they will be missed.

Greens

New Faces! We have welcomed a new qualified green keeper to the staff, Adam Muir. Adam is keen on golf and is the captain of the 20-20 Tuakau Cricket team. Also joining our staff as a part timer at this stage is Naumai Hira aka 'the smiling assassin' who is responsible for tiding the bunkers and various weedy areas around the course.

Coring On behalf of the Greens Staff I would like to Thank all the volunteers who helped over coring. they were - John Abbott, Warwick Blagrove, Robert Burke, Joanna Clark, Terry & Lynnie Grant, Anini & Lincoln Hira, Neville Jamieson, Les Johns, Stuart Orton (and tractor), Jim Peacock, Chris Radloff and David Yorwarth. Coring was disrupted by a machinery breakdown, So we thank you for your patience.

Practice hole maintenance For golfers who use the practice facilities behind the 10th green the green staff are enlarging the green with Cooch seedlings. We do not want people walking on them, they have put the pin short of the green for a target. The green will be playable in about a month. The practice fairway green is out of bounds.

Handyman Thanks also go to Neale Dearlove for his skills in making all the steps up onto the several tees safe. He also sorted out the dragging door problem on the mens loo on the 4th tee, so many thanks Neale.

Carts

If you want to book a cart please don’t be offended if there are none left, they are popular so you need to book in advance. Some people have booked weeks or more in advance for certain competitions.

Call the Pro Shop on 233 4038 for cart bookings during working hours – please leave a message if we are not able to answer when you call.

The cart shed will be along soon, but at the moment we can only charge a limited number so sometimes we will have none available.
