ITEM A.4 Name: Pukekohe East Presbyterian Church Type: Building - Church Location: 95 Runciman Road, Pukekohe East ID Number: HP 003, XRef Computer No: HN 106 Valuation Number: 03790/091.00 Legal Description: Pt Allot 29, Pukekohe PSH, BLK XII, Drury SD Description: The church and wider area is of major historical and spiritual importance to both Maori and Pakeha. It was once the scene of fighting and contains the graves of early settlers of the District and soldiers who took part in the battles. Five plaques are erected at the entrance to the church grounds which read: (1) This plaque commemorates the fact that this site was the first seat of Local Government in Franklin in 1862 (2) This church, opened on 5 April 1863, was garrisoned on the outbreak of the Waikato War. An attack by Maori forces on 14 September 1863 was repulsed (3) Pukekohe East School. From 1863—1880 the church on this site served as the District School (4) In memory of the Maoris who lost their lives in the engagement 14 September 1863, 6 were buried here. Mauku Church came under threat in 1863 with the outbreak of war and was refuge to 2000 odd troops. The church itself was stockaded with logs and rifle loopholes. ITEM A.10 Name: Waiuku Museum Building (Hartman House) Type: Building – Retailing (former house) Location: King Street Waiuku ID Number: HP 010, XRef Computer No: HN 480 & HN 93 Valuation Number: 03900/758.00 Legal Description: Pt Lot 1, Lot 2, DP 24653 Description: An oblong building with steep gable roof. Resited from Meacham Tce to its present site on reserve land adjacent to the museum. It is envisaged that this building will form part of a reconstructed historic village, located on this site. It is envisaged that this building will form part of a reconstructed historic village, located on this site. No significant exterior structural modifications. Glazing at each end of verandah. Modern stove chimney on roof. White weather boards with grey iron roof. In use as a dwelling. Largely screened from street by hedge. ITEM A.18 Name: Old Villa (1860’s?) Type: Building – Residential Location: 12 Harrington Avenue, Pukekohe ID Number: HP 018 Valuation Number: 38702/423.00 Legal Description: Pt Lot 17 DP 7278 Lot 2 DP 117297 Description: Red brick with dark green window frames/doors. Turquoise shingles around verandah and on gables. Exterior wall fronting Ring Road is plastered white. Dark grey corrugated iron roof. Distinctive canopies over windows. New brick wall along Ring Road boundary of property. No exterior structural modifications visible from street, but recent alterations at back of dwelling. Currently used as a dwelling. Directly adjacent to church carpark. No significant external alterations to front-sides of original dwelling - separate modern brick building added to rear - linked by a covered courtyard. Currently used as a dwelling.
