COURSE OUTLINE

Theatre Arts 130

I. Catalog Statement

Theatre Arts 130 teaches the technical support aspects for the performing arts, including: dance, music, and theatre arts. Through lecture and laboratory experiences the students are prepared to manage, run sound, run lights, manage props, execute scenery changes using the , and manage for productions.

Theatre Arts 130- Performing Arts Technical Support - 1 - 3 units Lecture 1 hour Laboratory I studio 3-9 hours

Prerequisite: None.

Note: This course may be taken 4 times; a maximum of 12 units may be earned.

II. Course Objectives

The student will be able to: 1. understand the general principles of providing technical support for performing arts events; 2. acquire skills to safely execute technical support requirements for production; 3. acquire a general knowledge of all technical areas; 4. specialize in a specific technical area, such as lighting, sound, or scenery related to the types of productions the student select;. 5. interpret and implement written instructions, schedules, and drawings from the production's designers.

V. Examination Procedures and Evaluation Procedures

A written mid-term and final are required. Attendance at weekly lectures, and completion of the appropriate number of lab hours are calculated as part of the grade. Students are required to select specific productions in which they will demonstrate the development of Theatre Arts 130 Page 3

their technical skill. Commitment to and attendance at those pre-selected productions is a fundamental part of the student's grade.
