Job Title: Head Electrician Department: Production Reports To: FLSA Status: Non-Exempt This position is covered by a collective bargaining agreement between I.A.T.S.E. Local 1 and the Apollo Theater.

Position Summary: Manage, maintain, and operate theatrical lighting systems and equipment to ensure the timely and accurate realization of all lighting elements for The Apollo Theater in both the Main and the Sound Stage. The Head Electrician is responsible for scheduling and managing over hire electricians.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities during technical rehearsals and performances:

 Consult with Designer, TD and/or PM to determine use of circuits for lighting plots  Supervise the strike of theatrical lighting and equipment and restore of House Hang  Responsible for hanging and focusing the lighting plots  Supervise the crew during the Lx hang, and focus  Move, re-focus, re-patch and otherwise operate theatrical lighting instruments, practicals and electrical equipment on or about the Stage as required for production.  Operate the House lights and lighting console(s) as required  Ensure all lighting equipment is set up in a safe manner and adheres to professional standards  Ensure all lighting equipment is set up according to the ’s vision and maintained throughout the run of a given production, presentation, event or rental  Inspect, maintain and perform maintenance on all lighting and electrical equipment, systems and accessories throughout the season.  Setup and dismantle lighting equipment for House hang and lighting designs  Operate lighting systems and related equipment as directed  Set up and run video projection equipment, as required.  Assist other Departments with setup, strike and restore of all show equipment including set, props, rigging, projections, and audio when applicable  Maintain a safe working environment always  Report all accidents/incidents immediately to the Technical Director, Production Supervisor and/or The above job description is not intended to be an all-inclusive list of duties and standards of the position. Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  Extensive knowledge of lighting control systems, lighting hardware, equipment and is familiar with lighting design techniques.  Experience reading lighting plots and associated paperwork.  A thorough understanding and working knowledge of DMX control and universes including but not limited to: scrollers, I- mirrors, rotators and other electrical effects. LED and moving light experience an asset.  Knowledge of chain motors and rigging techniques preferred  Ability to work within the confines of the production schedule and meet deadlines.  Ability to work well under pressure.  Excellent communication skills  A passion for theater and the performing arts preferred  Excellent oral and written communication skills  Strong organizational skills  Ability to multitask  Proficiency with Microsoft Office  Constant dedication to personal & departmental improvement  Commitment to getting things done  A can-do attitude  Out of the box thinker  Ability to find “yes” and not settle for “No”  Applicants with the ability to read minds will be given special consideration  Experience with union a plus

Local 1 employees in the following positions and carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.
