Alpha Sorority, Incorporated Epsilon Chapter June 13, 2009 Minutes

The regularly scheduled meeting was held on Saturday, June 13, 2009, at the Ivy Family Support Center-3515 Dolfield Avenue, Baltimore, MD. Soror Angela C. Gibson, Basileus, called the meeting to order at 9:59 .M. The Inspirational Opening was given by Soror Doris Levi followed by the reciting of the pledge.

REPORT OF OFFICERS Summary

Basileus No written report - Summary Soror Soror Angela Gibson reported on the following: Angela C. Gibson • Soror Gibson attended Epsilon Omega’s MIP luncheon, which was also attended by Supreme Basileus Barbara McKenzie and Former Supreme Basileus Eva Evans. Soror Evans was the guest speaker. • August 9, 2009 is the new date for the Cluster 1 Picnic. • August 31, 2009 is the next executive meeting. • Soror Gibson informed Sorors “ money” is needed to prepare for NARC 2010. The undergraduates are required to pay $50.00 and graduates must pay $75.00. The money is required regardless to whether you attend the Regional Conference and is due by December 31, 2009. All Sorors were asked to cooperate. Regional Director, Soror Evelyn Sample Oats has requested Sorors to begin paying their hostess fees in June. Q & A Q – Regarding seed money, if there is excess will it be refunded? A- There is a conference call tomorrow, Soror Gibson will ask. Q- If you do not pay the fee will you be active with Regional and National? A- Based on the information that has come down, the answer appears to be no. Q - Does Life and Golden Sorors have to pay? A - Yes Q - If I pay my Foundation and Chapter dues and do not pay NARC 2010 hostess fee, am I Considered a non-financial Soror? A – Yes

• Starting in June Cluster 1 Basilei will meet monthly face to face or via conference call. • The Summer Service initiative is a twelve-week project that begins June 22, 2009 through September 11, 2009. Epsilon Omega is looking for a Pan-Hellenic council organization to collaborate this endeavor. • Epsilon Omega was given the responsibility of obtaining the Joint Founders’ Day speaker. The budget is $3,000.00, which includes hotel, transportation and amenities. Several speakers were recommended. Joint Founders’ Day will be held at a hotel at the BWI Marshall Airport during the month of January.

They are also in need of a publisher. If you know Barber one please contact Soror Cardrienne Griffin or any member of the committee. • Sorors who wish to make arrangements for our monthly chapter meetings should contact Soror Barber. She requested that you not leave Committee Request Forms in Foundation’s Front Office. They should come to her. • Soror Barber informed members she will be out of the country July 26 through August 22nd. Soror Audrey Bennett or the Foundation Office should be contacted for entry into the building.

Epsilon Omega No written report - Summary Foundation Soror Evelyn McLeod report was as follows: Soror Evelyn McLeod • The Semi-Annual Meeting will be held on Saturday June 20, 2009. A full breakfast will be served at 9:00 a.m. The business meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m.

• The Fantastic Voyage is coming up. Please Plan to attend. Please bring un-wrapped gifts to contribute to this effort. • The Flea Market will be open today the business meeting.

A written report was provided and will be filed. Summary is as follows: Connections Committee • On May 18, 2009, twenty-six Sorors dressed beautifully in pink and green visited City Hall for Alpha Soror Karenthia Kappa Alpha Night. Tasteful pink and green decorations were courtesy of Councilwoman Mary Pat A. Barber Clarke. A reception followed the evening session, which was attended by a number of Council members and staffers. AKA Night in City Hall was informative, enlightening and enjoyable. • A tentative Health Education Workshop is scheduled for September 22, 2009. The forum will focus on the Health Disparities that impact communities of color • October 18, 2009 is the Komen Race for the Cure. Sorors who can are asked to participant. If you cannot participate, please support the endeavor by sponsoring another Soror. • Supreme Basileus Barbara McKenzie has asked all Sorors to support President Obama’s Nominee for the next appointment to the Supreme Court. Per Soror McKenzie, “So much of what she stands for, and how she has voted parallel our ESP program.”

Membership Fun day is here! There are games in various rooms, food by Taylor Made, Ice Cream by the young Committee entrepreneur, and pastries by Monica. Please note the ice cream is not free today. The cost is $3.00. Please Soror Patricia have fun and enjoy. Scott

placed today. See Soror Sheila Tidline. • Founders’ Day Clocks are available for sale. $3.00 or 2 for $5.00. • Soror Odessa Dunston was acknowledged by Soror Carolyn Cole for coming to her school to volunteering . • On May 15, 2009 Soror Gillis received her Jurious Doctor Degree.

Soror Briscoe recognized Sorors celebrating birthdays in June, July and August.. She also Hodegos Soror acknowledged visiting Sorors and provided gifts to all. Shirley Briscoe
