Dear Parishioners,

With the start of Advent there’s a flurry of activity! Please note the following about special events, including Mass over the next few weeks, here at St. Mary’s and St. Michael’s.

Because the is our nation’s patronal feast day, it is always a holy day of obligation, no matter what day of the week it falls on. Please see the schedule below for Mass times. Please note that if you attend the 5:15 pm Mass on December 8 it will be a Mass for the Immaculate Conception but it can ful- fill your obligation for the Immaculate Conception OR the 2nd Sunday of Advent, but not both! If you attend that Mass, please be sure to go to one additional Mass – either for the Immaculate Conception or the 2nd Sun- day of Advent. In other words, we all have to attend Mass once for the Immaculate Conception and once for the 2nd Sunday of Advent, for a total of two Masses between Dec 7 and Dec 9. Please ask if you have any questions!

Speaking of the 5:15 Mass on December 8, this Mass will be celebrated by Bishop Parker and followed by the blessing of our new facilities, including a beautiful statue of the Blessed Mother to be mounted on the exterior wall of the school overlooking the courtyard (parking lot/play ground). Immediately after the blessings (around 7:00 pm), we will have a fried chicken dinner, catered by the Western Sizzlin. Please join us for a great evening of giving thanks to God for all His blessings upon our community, especially for the Blessed Mother’s protection and intercession. There is no charge for the meal, but we do ask that you let us know if you (and how many) will be coming to eat. Please contact Paula by phone (301-739-0390) or email ( [email protected] ) by Thursday Dec 6 to tell us if you’re coming!

On December 15, Robert Katafiasz will be ordained a priest in the Basilica of the Assumption in Baltimore. I know this is a busy time of year, but I would still like to invite you to join Fr. Larry and me for the Ordination Mass. Please note that because both Fr. Larry and I will be there for the Mass, we will be can- celing the 8:30 am Mass and 11:30 confessions that day (Saturday, December 15).

And speaking of Confessions, I am still finalizing the schedule, but we will offer confessions every night of the week from December 17-21. There will be at least one priest available from Tuesday to Friday in the evening, while on Monday there will be the regional penance service at St. Ann’s (1525 Oak Hill Ave, Hagerstown, MD 21742), starting at 7:00 pm. Please look for more details in next Sunday’s bulletin.

May God bless you and keep you in His care, and may the Blessed Mother intercede for you,

Father Cibelli

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

Attention Parishioners: The St. Mary Parish is in need of a few volunteers to assist in offertory counting on Monday mornings. The time frame is usually between 8:00 am to 10:30 am, once per month. Basic skills include bill counting, adding checks and cash, and use of a 10-key adding machine. Confidentiality is also required. If you are in- terested in serving the Lord and St. Mary in this manner, please contact the St. Mary business manager, Mike McCoy, at 301-739-0390 x114, or [email protected]. The Parish will be eternally grateful for volunteering your time and talent!

MERCY COMMITTEE Many of us have been recipients of kindnesses during our time of grief. St. Mary’s Mercy (bereavement) Committee was established to support grieving families in their time of need. Our mission is to provide a bereavement luncheon following a loved one’s funeral. If you would like to pay it forward or simply be part of something bigger, contact Linda Field (301-797- 6189), Peggy Hurd (301-739-6183) or Judy Kline (301-824-5189) for details about the Mercy Committee. All are welcome to become part of our ministry.

Our parish has raised more than $800,000 toward our campaign goal of $1,750,000 from just 60 gifts with an average gift of $13,000! Thanks be to God for your generosity!

WE HAVE RAISED 46% OF OUR GOAL FROM JUST 8% OF OUR REGISTERED FAMILIES!

WHAT A SHOW OF GENEROSITY!

WE CAN EXCEED OUR GOAL, BUT ONLY IF EACH FAMILY PARTICIPATES & CONSIDERS A SACRIFICIAL PLEDGE.

Our campaign will provide the funds needed for important renovations for our parish and school.

HELP US TO SHAPE A BETTER FUTURE, BY GOD’s GRACE MAKE YOUR PLEDGE TODAY!
