READINGS ~ Week of August 11th FROM THE PASTOR’S PEN

Sunday: Wis 18:6-9/Ps 33:1, 12, 18-19, 20-22 [12b]/Heb 11:1-2, “Faith is the realization of what is hoped for and evidence of things not 8-19 or 11:1-2, 8-12/Lk 12:32-48 or 12:35-40 seen” (Heb 11:1). The Scripture readings of this weekend bring the Monday: Dt 10:12-22/Ps 147:12-13, 14-15, 19-20 [12a]/ theme of Faith. The author of the Letter to the Hebrews takes a glimpse Mt 17:22-27 into the Jewish history, and proudly places an array of the ancestors of faith, whose lives, obviously embody what faith is all about. The faith that Tuesday: Dt 31:1-8/Dt 32:3-4ab, 7, 8, 9 and 12 [9a]/Mt 18:1-5, 10, the author talks about is their faith in God, and not on any thing else. 12-14 Remember, these were the heroes of their history, not some Wednesday: Dt 34:1-12/Ps 66:1-3a, 5 and 8, 16-17 [cf. 20a and 10b]/ folks! The object of their faith has been God who has revealed to them. Mt 18:15-20 They relied on God and God’s word. That is FAITH! Thursday: Vigil: 1 Chr 15:3-4, 15-16; 16:1-2/Ps 132:6-7, 9-10, We live at a time when Faith is looked upon with contempt. Mostly, it 13-14 [8]/1 Cor 15:54b-57/Lk 11:27-28. Day: Rv 11:19a; results from the mindset that Faith is incompatible with Reason and 12:1-6a, 10ab/Ps 45:10, 11, 12, 16 [10bc]/1 Modernity. It can also arise from the notion that modern ways are the Cor 15:20-27/Lk 1:39-56 best and far superior; and that traditions are archaic, and no longer Friday: Jos 24:1-13/Ps 136:1-3, 16-18, 21-22 and 24/Mt 19:3-12 relevant to Post modern society. Many have been carried away by these and similar views. Sadly, many are left in the lurch with no clue to what Saturday: Jos 24:14-29/Ps 16:1-2a and 5, 7-8, 11 [cf. 5a]/ they believe in today! Mt 19:13-15 Did you know that many a great minds and scientists were Christian Next Sunday: Jer 38:4-6, 8-10/Ps 40:2, 3, 4, 18 [14b]/Heb 12:1-4/ believers? Actually, good number of them were monks and religious. Lk 12:49-53 Through out the stages of Church’s history, we see many illumined minds, both lay and religious, who easily blended Reason and Faith in God. During the papacy of Benedict XVI, the has consistently highlighted how Faith and Reason, far from being opposed to each other, can cooperate together for a greater knowledge of God and a deeper MASS INTENTIONS understanding of human being. Faith in God is certain. That’s the truth. It is more certain than all human MONDAY, August 12th knowledge because it’s founded on the very Word of God who cannot lie. Weekday No doubt, revealed truths can seem obscure to human reason and 7:00am Communion Service experience, but “the certainty that the divine light gives is greater than TUESDAY, August 13th that which the light of natural reason gives” (Cf. The Catechism of the Weekday #157). Unfortunately, there are people today, who 7:00am Communion Service express doubts about Catholic faith and practices. Not bad at all. But 5:30pm † Victoria Setla some question merely to oppose the Catholic Faith. Yet others find WEDNESDAY, August 14th certain Eastern Religions interesting to them. They grow in fascination all Saint Maximilian Kolbe, Priest and Martyr of a sudden, because it is pleasing to them. Do they know anything of it 7:00am † Mary Ann Strobusch at depth? No. Neither do they have a depth level knowledge of the faith THURSDAY, August 15th they have left. It reflects the shopping mentality of our times! What it The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary actually displays is a lack of genuine understanding of the richness and 7:00am People of the Parish beauty of religious traditions. Being rooted in one’s own religious 8:45am † Josephine Marten heritage is the foremost requisite to understand other religious traditions. 5:30pm Sam & Kathy Geraci Without a desire and curiosity for learning, one can never grow in faith. FRIDAY, August 16th Even those of us, who have been Catholics our whole life, do not know Weekday everything. At least, I for one, don’t. Catechism of the Catholic Church is 7:00am † Joanne & Robert Manthey the best book to go to if you wish to deepen your knowledge of the SATURDAY, August 17th Catholic faith. Knowing the elements of Christian faith will help our Weekday walking in faith. All of us must possess some level of eagerness to learn 7:00am William Wahl Family daily more about the faith. In fact, I would love to have a meeting of all Twentieth Sunday in those who went through RCIA program and have come into the Church. 5:30pm † Robert Teske A sharing of their experience of coming into the Catholic faith with others † Franklin Edwards in the community would benefit all. SUNDAY, August 18th Doubts and questions are opportunities for finding new light. In fact, all Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time those who struggle with questions and doubts shall consider it as 8:30am People of the Parish an invitation to delve deeper into Catholic Faith rather than just leaving it. 10:30am Sam Geraci Soon here in the Parish, we would be starting a series of classes on Learning and living of the Faith. The details of this program will be GIFTS RETURNED TO GOD announced in the upcoming bulletins. I would encourage Catholics and non-Catholics to take advantage of these upcoming sessions. I thank each of you for the heroic walk of your faith in the journey of Envelopes: $8,456.90 ~ Plate: $679.73 life… Thank You! God bless, F. Fr3n6i
