Pentecost Sunday May 23, 2021 The Most Holy Trinity May 30, 2021 The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ June 6, 2021 First Sunday of Advent (Liturgical Year 2022) November 28, 2021 In addition to Sunday, the following days are designated HOLY DAYS OF OBLIGATION December 8, 2020 Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary December 25, 2020 Christmas January 1, 2021 Solemnity of Mary, The Holy Mother of God LECTIONARY FOR MASS Sunday Cycle Year B November 29, 2020 to November 21, 2021 Weekday Cycle Cycle I January 11 to February 16, 2021 June 1 to November 28, 2021 Sunday Cycle Year C November 28, 2021 to November 20, 2022 The readings from the weekday cycle generally are to be used even on days on which a Memorial or Optional Memorial of a Saint occurs. The exceptions to this rule are the Memorials or Optional Memorials which have “proper readings” (usually only the Gospel) assigned to them in the Lectionary for Mass and which must be used on those days. Substitutions from the Commons or Proper of Saints may be made for the other readings suggested for those Memorials or Optional Memorials. The Priest Celebrant, however, should not omit “too often or without sufficient cause the readings assigned for each day in the weekday Lectionary” (Introduction to the Lectionary for Mass, no. 83). 1 NOTES FOR THE YEAR OF GRACE 2021 1. The 2021 liturgical year begins on the First Sunday of Advent, November 29, 2020. During the year 2021: a. As noted in the table of Principal Celebrations, in the Dioceses of Salt Lake City, the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord (May 13, 2021) has been transferred to the following Sunday (May 16, 2021) and replaces the Seventh Sunday of Easter. b. Sunday, July 4 is the Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time, and the liturgical celebration of Independence Day is omitted this year. Independence Day may be appropriately acknowledged in the Homily, Universal Prayer, and hymns during the Sunday liturgy. c. Sunday, December 12 is the Third Sunday of Advent, and the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe is omitted this year. Our Lady of Guadalupe may be appropriately honored in the Homily, Universal Prayer, and hymns during the Sunday liturgy. If pastoral advantage calls for it (cf. GIRM, no. 376), a Votive Mass of Our Lady of Guadalupe may be celebrated on a weekday before or after December 12, with the proper readings and prayers. 2. In a decree dated February 11, 2018, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments inscribed the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church in the General Roman Calendar to be observed on the Monday after Pentecost, taking precedence over an obligatory Memorial that coincides with it. Thus, May 24, 2021 shall be observed as the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of the Church. 3. The Anniversary of the Dedication of a Parish Church is a proper solemnity for the parish. See Appendix IV on page 25 for a listing of dedication dates. 4. The Anniversary of the Rededication of the Cathedral Church of the Madeleine, February 21, is celebrated as a solemnity in the cathedral church and as a feast throughout the diocese. 5. “On Saturdays in Ordinary Time when no Obligatory Memorial occurs, an Optional Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary may be celebrated” (Universal Norms on the Liturgical Year and the Calendar, no. 15). This is indicated in the calendar by “BVM.” The readings and prayers may be selected from the Common of the Blessed Virgin Mary or Votive Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Roman Missal, or the Collection of Masses of the Blessed Virgin Mary. 6. Ritual Masses – Ritual Masses are connected to the celebration of Sacraments or Sacramentals. They may not be celebrated on the Sundays of Advent, Lent, and Easter, on solemnities, on the days within the Octave of Easter, on All Souls Day (Commemoration of the Faithful Departed), on Ash Wednesday, and during Holy Week and furthermore due regard is to be had for the norms set out in the ritual books or in the Masses themselves (GIRM-General Instruction of the Roman Missal 372). 2 PROPER CALENDAR DIOCESES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA January 04 Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Religious Memorial 05 Saint John Neumann, Bishop Memorial 06 Saint André Bessette, Religious* 22 Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of Unborn Children 23 Saint Vincent, Deacon and Martyr and Saint Marianne Cope, Virgin* March 03 Saint Katharine Drexel, Virgin* May 10 Saint Damien de Veuster, Priest* 15 Saint Isidore* July 01 Saint Junipero Serra, Priest* 04 Independence Day 05 Saint Elizabeth of Portugal* 14 Saint Kateri Tekakwitha, Virgin Memorial 18 Saint Camillus de Lellis, Priest* September 09 Saint Peter Claver, Priest Memorial October 05 Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos, Priest* 06 Blessed Marie Rose Durocher, Virgin* 19 Sts. • The Dean and the Deanery
7 DIOCESE OF EAST ANGLIA Diocesan policy on THE DEANERY AND THE ROLE OF THE DEAN THE DEANERY How is the universal Catholic Church structured? The whole people of God is a communion of dioceses, each entrusted to the pastoral leadership and care of a bishop. The diocese is then ‘divided into distinct parts or parishes’ (Code of Canon Law, 374.1). Each parish is by nature an integral part of the diocese. What then is a deanery? ‘To foster pastoral care by means of common action, several neighbouring parishes can be joined together in special groupings, such as deaneries’ (Code of Canon Law, 374.2). Each deanery is led by a Dean appointed by the bishop to act in his name. In a scattered diocese such as ours, with many small parishes, working together in deaneries can be very fruitful, not only for the mutual support and care of the clergy, but also for pastoral and spiritual collaboration at local level. In each deanery, there are to be regular meetings of the clergy, priests and deacons, diocesan and religious, of that grouping of parishes. All are expected to attend such meetings and participate as fully as possible in deanery life and work. In each deanery, there are to be regular meetings of lay representatives of each parish with all the clergy of the deanery, so as to facilitate active participation by lay people in local pastoral action and decision-making. The following norms for the role of the Dean came into effect from 21 November 2003. THE ROLE OF THE DEAN 1.

LITURGICAL CALENDAR 2007 FOR THE DIOCESES OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA Committee on the Liturgy United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 2 © 2006 United States Conference of Catholic Bishops 2 3 Introduction Each year the Secretariat for the Liturgy of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops publishes the Liturgical Calendar for the Dioceses of the United States of America. This calendar is used by authors of ordines and other liturgical aids published to foster the celebration of the liturgy in our country. The calendar is based upon the General Roman Calendar, promulgated by Pope Paul VI on February 14, 1969, subsequently amended by Pope John Paul II, and the Particular Calendar for the Dioceses of the United States of America, approved by the National Conference of Catholic Bishops.1 The General Instruction of the Roman Missal, 2002, reminds us that in the cycles of readings and prayers proclaimed throughout the year in the sacred liturgy “the mysteries of redemption are recalled in the Mass in such a way that they are in some way made present.” Thus may each celebration of the Holy Eucharist which is served by this calendar be for the Church in all the dioceses of the United States of America “ the high point of the action by which God sanctifies the world in Christ and of the worship that the human race offers to the Father, adoring him through Christ, the Son of God, in the Holy Spirit.”2 Monsignor James P. Moroney Executive Director USCCB Secretariat for the Liturgy 1 For the significance of the several grades or kinds of celebrations, the norms of the Roman Calendar should be consulted (cf.
