The Alien Vascular Flora of Tuscany (Italy)
Quad. Mus. St. Nat. Livorno, 26: 43-78 (2015-2016) 43 The alien vascular fora of Tuscany (Italy): update and analysis VaLerio LaZZeri1 SUMMARY. Here it is provided the updated checklist of the alien vascular fora of Tuscany. Together with those taxa that are considered alien to the Tuscan vascular fora amounting to 510 units, also locally alien taxa and doubtfully aliens are reported in three additional checklists. The analysis of invasiveness shows that 241 taxa are casual, 219 naturalized and 50 invasive. Moreover, 13 taxa are new for the vascular fora of Tuscany, of which one is also new for the Euromediterranean area and two are new for the Mediterranean basin. Keywords: Vascular plants, Xenophytes, New records, Invasive species, Mediterranean. Introduction establishment of long-lasting economic exchan- ges between close or distant countries. As a result The Mediterranean basin is considered as one of this context, non-native plant species have of the world most biodiverse areas, especially become an important component of the various as far as its vascular fora is concerned. -

Seregin, Pavel E. Yevseyenkov, Sergey A. Svirin & Alexander V. Fateryga Summary: We report 323 new vascular plant species for the Sevastopol area, an administrative unit in the south-western Crimea. Records of 204 species are confirmed by herbarium specimens, 60 species have been reported recently in literature and 59 species have been either photographed or recorded in field in 2008 –2014. Seventeen species and nothospecies are new records for the Crimea: Bupleurum veronense, Lemna turionifera, Typha austro-orientalis, Tyrimnus leucographus, × Agrotrigia hajastanica, Arctium × ambiguum, A. × mixtum, Potamogeton × angustifolius, P. × salicifolius (natives and archaeophytes); Bupleurum baldense, Campsis radicans, Clematis orientalis, Corispermum hyssopifolium, Halimodendron halodendron, Sagina apetala, Solidago gigantea, Ulmus pumila (aliens). Recently discovered Calystegia soldanella which was considered to be extinct in the Crimea is the most important confirmation of historical records. The Sevastopol area is one of the most floristically diverse areas of Eastern Europe with 1859 currently known species. Keywords: Crimea, checklist, local flora, taxonomy, new records A checklist of vascular plants recorded in the Sevastopol area was published seven years ago (Seregin 2008). -
Environmental Conservation and Protected Areas in Palestine Challenges and Opportunities
ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION AND PROTECTED AREAS IN PALESTINE CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES Report submitted to The Hanns Seidel Foundation 2 Foreword This publication bases on the report “Environmental conservation and protected areas in Palestine: Challenges and Opportunities” by Dr. Mazin Qumsieh, Betlehem University and Dr. Zuhair Amr, Jordan University of Science and Technology, which have been contracted by Hanns Seidel Foundation for this task. The report has been written in the framework of a project funded by the European Union’s Partnership for Peace initiative. The aim of the report is to portray the current state of nature protection in Palestine, to fathom the potential for improved environmental conservation and nature reserve management, and to suggest priorities for future environmental protection efforts. The current version is the result of an intense review process, which involved Palestinian Experts, the Environment Quality Authority as well as the team of Hanns Seidel Foundation. In addition to that, it has been edited to improve the reading. Hence, the original report written by the contracted authors has been considerably altered and shortened. Such a review always requires compromises between the original text and all the studied opinions. Often, such a compromise will not entirely please neither the authors, nor the reviewers and the contracting party. Nevertheless, we have carried out a lot of effort to harmonize all positions and to include the very many recommendations and comments, while keeping to the original. All mistakes and inaccuracies, naturally, can be entirely attributed to the contracting authority, which is the Hanns Seidel Foundation. Our foundation would like to thank the authors of the report and all other contributors for their insight and effort. -

LATVIA /fax +371 – 41-33-223 +371 - 941-84-40, 41-00-326 All prices for single bulb E-mail: [email protected] in EURO Dear friends! New Year and new gardening season comes and my new catalogue goes to you. It is a little shorter than usually - not for shortage of items includable (with pain in heart I striped out many names) but this summer I want to rebuild my bulb shed and it will limit my possibilities to harvest bulbs and to work with them. Last summer was very busy year. I rebuilt one of my greenhouses - it was very nervous process due shortage of workers (three teams were changed), I was forced to dig out all bulbs, to change soil - but now working in it is much more comfortable. I and my wife Guna organized for the first time “Open door days” and we had 18 visitors from Britain, arranged programm including lectures, visits of gardens, museum, nature, Opera etc. All visitors were very satisfied with visit. Sorry, this season we can’t to arrange OPEN DOOR DAYS due my lecture tour in North America and expedition plans. But I’m planning repeat such days in future, too. Last season Mrs. Kristl Walek from Canada (Gardens North – Seeds from the world) in her catalogue revealed the fact that I had been bearing in my mind an idea about a book on bulbs and my experience with them. -

Despite the importance of the H-D Mountains to biodiversity, many uncertainties Available online 9 May 2013 remain regarding the timing and tempo of their uplift. А., Шилова И. В., Пархоменко А. С. -

Day 1 Saturday 14th April Six group members met up with Neil at Gatwick airport for a mid-morning flight to Istanbul, where we had a five-hour wait before our connecting flight to Almaty. Day 2 Sunday 15th April Lake Kapchagai After our night flight to Almaty, we transferred to the Kazzhol Hotel around 8am and headed into the dining area for a sumptuous breakfast. Here we met the other three group members, Steve, Rami and Katie, who had arrived the previous day. After getting changed we headed off to Lake Kapchagai, some 60+ kilometres north of Almaty, and the largest reservoir in the country. As we were driving in we could see our first tulips. These were the yellow Tulipa kolpakowskiana , a species we saw quite frequently over the next couple of days. We soon encountered another yellow flowered species Tulipa behmiana, which we found only here. Also providing some colour was the attractive blue Iris tenuifolia, a plant of the sands. The small creamy flowers of the small Tulipa busheana, were now well past their best.
