53 54 55 56 57 Kunstmuseum Ahrenshoop – Ahrenshoop Museum of Art From Barbizon to the Baltic: See how naturalistic painting came to northern Germany. In 1892 painters founded the artist’s colony of Ahrens- hoop. Painters like Anna Gerresheim, Paul Müller-Kaempff and others built their houses in the small village by the sea. They invited other artists to come to Ahrenshoop and established a flourishing art scene which is still alive. Hundreds of renowned artists of almost all important movements of modern Geman art visited Ahrenshoop. They reflected the village and it’s surrounding in their works of art. Kunstmuseum Ahrenshoop is a museum dedicated to the artist’s colony. A collection of 900 works represents artists and genres to the present day. A permanent exhibition shows works of the colony’s founders. They created excel- lent paintings of landscapes, portraits and interiors. Regularly changing exhibitions are dedicated to classical modernism, art from and contemporary artists connected. For more information see page 10.
