Featured Event: Free Author Program

In partnership with the 13th Utah Humanities Book Festival, Park City Library invites you to a free author program on Saturday, October 23rd. The program will feature Dominique Browning, author of Slow Love: How I Lost My Job, Put on Pajamas & Found Happiness. Browning is the former editor of House & Garden and currently blogs for the Environmental Defense Fund. Joining Browning will be Phyllis Barber, author of the memoir Raw Edges. The pro- gram will start at 5:00 pm and take place in Room 205, located on the second floor of the Park City Library & Education building. Both authors will be availa- ble for book signings following their presentation and discussion. For the most up to date information, check the library website: www.parkcitylibrary.org. Friends of the Library Author Luncheon

This year’s Friends of the Library Author Luncheon will take place on Wednesday, October 20th. The featured speaker is Utah native Michael Norman, author of On Ground. The luncheon will take place at Deer Valley’s Silver Lake Lodge. Doors open at 11:30 am and lunch is served at noon. Tickets are available for purchase at the library.

Annual Friends of the Library Used Book Sale Labor Day Weekend Members’ Preview Night - Friday, September 3rd, 6-8 pm For Members of the Friends of the Park City Library. You can join at the door. General Book Sale - Saturday, September 4th, 9 am—3 pm Sunday, September 5th, 10 am—2 pm Bargain Bag Sale - $5 for a large bag Monday, September 6th, 11 am—2 pm Kids & Teens

Coming in September: Join us for the Park City Kids Book Club! Boys and girls ages 6 and up are invited to join us for our afterschool book club. The club meets from 4:15-5:15 pm every Wednesday starting Septem- ber 8th.. Enjoy games, crafts and snacks. We will read a book out loud togeth- er. Books we have read in the past include: The BFG by Roald Dahl, James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl, Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt, titles from E.L. Teens—do you need volunteer hours? Story Time Schedule Join T.A.G. – Teen Advisory Group! The mission of this group is to suggest services, Baby and Me materials and programs that are needed and birth to 18 months desired by Park City teens. Join us for our first Mondays 3:30 pm meeting of the year Thursday, September 16th at Wednesdays 10:00 am 3:30 pm. We will enjoy snacks, brainstorm ideas Combined Storytime for library programs and show a short movie made for ages 2-6 years by teens. Audio Book Survey Park City Library is conducting an audio book survey until the end of September. This is your chance to provide some feed- back and help the library enhance its audio book collection. The survey is only seven questions and will be available in print at the library as well as online through the library website. Please take a few minutes to fill out this survey. Your opinion counts.

Free Basic Computer Classes The library will once again offer free basic computer classes starting in Sep- tember. If you have always wanted to learn the basics, this is your chance. Classes will be held Wednesday mornings from 9:00 am – 10:00 am. The classes that will be offered are: Basic Computer Skills, Basic Internet, Basic Word Processing, Basic Email, and Library Databases. Need to Practice your Spanish? Spanish practice classes take place on Thursday nights from 5:15 –7 pm with outreach coordinator and native speaker, Jose Duran. Banned Books Week “Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment” (www.ala.org). It is usually held during the last week of September and draws attention to censorship by highlighting banned books or attempted bannings of books in the United States. This year’s theme is: “Think for yourself and let others do the same.” Come celebrate Banned Books Week at Park City Library from September 25 – October 2, 2010. Check out the displays featuring banned books, pick up a free bookmark, and participate by reading a banned book during that week.

2010 Utah Watercolor Society Exhibit

In partnership with the Traveling Exhibits Pro- gram, made possible by the Utah Division of Arts & Museums, Park City Library invites you to stop by and see the 2010 Utah Watercolor Society Exhibit. It will be at the library from November 15th to December 13th.
