It lets out a deep growl. The hikers have disturbed a king cobra. If one of them is bitten, the result could be deadly. Luckily, king cobras rarely bite humans. They only attack if they feel threatened or need to protect their eggs.
4 King cobra bites kill around five people each year. The snakes usually hide from humans.
5 Home for a King King cobras can be found in the forests and swamps of India and Southeast Asia. They often live near water in the deepest parts of the forest where there are many places to hide. The powerful snakes slither along the forest floor and zip through water. They are also good at climbing. They spend about a quarter of their time in trees.
