OVERVIEW Tongues on Fire are a must-read for those who want to experience the bap- tism of the Holy Spirit with the gift of speaking in tongues. Authored by Pastor Leslie Barnett who writes from experience having been involved in the 1970s “New Prophecy Movement” Pastor Barnett’s story begins with 18th century evangelist John Wesley, who paid heed to visions and supernatural encounters that occurred in the lives of Methodists of his day. Throughout his life he gathered stories of how God was revealing Himself in the lives of His people, and gave much thought to their meaning. The author explains; that when the Holy Spirit was being poured out with the speaking of tongues families were reunited, long-severed friend- ships reconciled and hearts flowed together in true fellowship in the Lord. And even more than that, along with the spirit of unity and love came the spirit of sacrifice and the wondrous spirit of liberty.

Take off your mask so I know how much to tip you. Service Workers’ Experience of Health & Harassment During COVID-19 DECEMBER 2020 ONE FAIR WAGE THE UC BERKELEY FOOD LABOR RESEARCH CENTER PROFESSOR CATHARINE A. MACKINNON PROFESSOR LOUISE FITZGERALD BARRY COMMONER CENTER FOR HEALTH & THE ENVIRONMENT QUEENS COLLEGE, CITY UNIVERSITY OF NEW YORK EDITORIAL SUPPORT PROVIDED BY TIME’S UP FOUNDATION i. OVERVIEW COVID-19’s devastation of the service sector has been well documented, including the closure of thousands of independently-owned restaurants1 and the unemployment, underemployment, and impoverishment of millions of food service workers nationwide.2 Destitution among workers can be traced in large part to the subminimum wage for tipped workers, still $2.13 an hour at the Federal level. A legacy of slavery,3 the subminimum wage for tipped workers persists in 43 states, and has subjected a largely female workforce of servers, bartenders, bussers, and others to economic instability and the highest rates of sexual harassment of any industry for decades.4 With the pandemic, 60% of tipped workers reporting being unable to access unemployment insurance because their subminimum wage was too low to meet minimum state thresholds for benefits qualification.5 Now, thousands of tipped service workers are returning to work as many restaurants have re-opened for indoor dining. No previous study, however, has thoroughly docu- mented service workers’ experiences of returning to work in restaurants during the pandemic. Understanding these workers’ experiences is critical not only to address- ing the needs of these workers and their families, but also to stemming the growing public health crisis.

Contact: [email protected] 1 The Lost Songs of Somerville By Scott Cerreta 2 I And a one, a two, a one, two, three, four. Remember me? I used to be the face of America, at least according to the painted cover of a once famous magazine. You’ll remember the picture if I show it to you: I’m the kid in the middle with the chipped tooth, a small flag planted in one young fist and a dying sparkler in the other; I’m sitting on a grassy hill with my family and some neighbors and the picture’s perspective is that of being just downhill looking up at us; our faces, still glowing with wonder, are all staring up into a darkening evening sky filled with fireworks which are, at that moment, in exact full neon blossom. Can’t find the likeness? Well, it was a long time ago and though some of us do, I guess most of us don’t, as children, much resemble our eventual adult selves. Anyway, the face of America wasn’t really me, it was our town, Somerville, they were referring to, back when this country was still knowable enough that one could imagine its true essence being found in such a small and simple space.
  • I Introducción

I INTRODUCCIÓN 12 1.1.
