Since students in District 228 represent a variety of ethnic, cultural, socioeconomic and educational backgrounds, the district believes that the total school community has a shared responsibility in this role. The Board of Education will establish written policies designed to achieve the purpose of education. The administration, through effective educational leadership, will administer the board's policies, and establish a positive district/school climate to facilitate the achievement of district goals. The professional and support staff will maintain a high level of commitment to the district's educational program and also maintain a high level of expectation for student achievement. The parents and the community will participate in a partnership with the schools to support district policies and goals. The students will be responsible to take advantage of the opportunities provided to them in the total school program. Based on this philosophy, our mission is to provide each student with core values, knowledge, and skills in order to thrive academically, socially, emotionally, and physically in our diverse world; to develop character; and to achieve full potential in one’s personal and professional life. Each school provides a comprehensive, varied curricular program with teachers who are specialists in their respective fields. In selecting your courses for the school year, you need to think about your high school objectives and your career goals (further education and/or work). In making your decisions, involve your parents, counselors, teachers and administrators. The school year consists of two semesters. Each semester is divided into two terms, each consisting of two quarters, for reporting marks to parents. In addition, there is an alternative Delta Academy, Evening High School Program and a summer term. A credit is earned by the satisfactory completion of two semesters of work in a course, which meets daily for one period and requires outside study. The credit value of each course is indicated in the course descriptions included in this handbook. A prerequisite is a course and/or other criteria, which must be completed before certain other courses may be taken. ◆ GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS The Regular Curriculum fulfills all state course requirements for graduation. Successful completion leads to the regular diploma. The Challenge Curriculum requires 24 credits and places an emphasis on world language courses taken in high school. Successful completion leads to the challenge diploma. In addition, a student must take the SAT examination as a condition for graduation as stipulated by the Illinois State Board of Education. REGULAR CURRICULUM English 4 credits Mathematics 3 credits (1 credit in Algebra and 1 credit in Geometry. Starting with Class of 2022: 1 credit in Math I and 1 credit in Math II) Science 3 credits Social Studies 3 credits (1 must be in American History and Pass Constitution Exam, and ½ must be in American Government-) Physical Education/Health 4 credits (Pass Health and a course with a Personal Wellness Plan component.)     Frequently Asked Questions Driver Education & Behind-the-Wheel Registration Bremen High School District 228 1) Can a student get their learners permit immediately after they successfully complete the classroom portion of driver education? No, after you have successfully completed the classroom phase you must sign up for behind-the-wheel (BTW) with District 228, another high school or a private driving school. 2) How does one register a student for one of the BTW sessions? Registration for BTW is moving to an “on-line” format. Information about how to complete the registration process will be provided in various ways including mailed letters, email, District 228 website, Facebook and direct communication by your student’s instructor. Registration will be February 1 - 24, 2021 or as long as seats are available. 3) What BTW sessions are available for students/families to select? Students/families will be afforded the opportunity to register for their session. Each session will consist of 10 drives/dates. 4) Can a student register for BTW at any school in District 228? Yes, students may complete BTW at any of the four district high schools. Please locate schedule for the current year to identify which two schools will host BTW sessions in June. The remaining two schools will subsequently host the July BTW sessions. 5) Does District 228 offer the classroom phase in the summer? Yes, the classroom phase is offered in the summer at Bremen or remote. Registration for the classroom phase is available on-line in the same web-based platform as summer driving. 6) Does a student have to wait until their sophomore year in high school to enroll in an approved driver education course? No, the State of Illinois has two criteria for enrolling in an approved driver education course: 1) the student must be 15 years of age AND 2) passed a minimum of eight classes in the student’s previous two semesters.

Finally, I came to understand what my coach had been telling me. Your mind only knows what you tell it. It took time to fight through the mental barriers, but I am a better, stronger person for it.” A look at Lamise’s resume over the past four makes it hard to believe that there are any barriers that have managed to slow her down academically or in sports and activities.

Dunne National Golf Course, well known as one of the best public courses in the country. This is an excellent benefit to anyone considering locating in Oak Forest. The history of Oak Forest extends back to the 1800s. The area currently known as Oak Forest was originally called Cooper’s Grove. Mr. Cooper who settled here in the 1830s was said to have been the first president of Bremen Township. A log cabin discovered by later settlers is believed to have been built by Cooper and was the first home built in the township.
