Berkeley Breathed : Bloom County Complete Library Volume 2 Signed Limited Edition before purchasing it in order to gage whether or not it would be worth my time, and all praised Bloom County Complete Library Volume 2 Signed Limited Edition:

When I was young I was motivated to read the paper primarily for two things: Bloom County and The Far Side. This volume has some of the best strips from Berkeley Breathed's fevered imagination. There's lots of wacky misadventures with Opus and Bill (Ack!) There's tons of frights from Binkley's closet of anxieties (frequently with ghastly nightmares about either the cold war or women;) Steve Dallas is perpetually unable to be presentable in public, and Oliver is still the runaway brain trust that needs intensive parental guidance.I love that Ted Koppel (!) wrote an introduction to the volume and along the same lines Breathed has lots of comments and notes throughout, plus some things never published before to provide insight into the era and the strip. I was particularly impressed with the positive reception the book got from the Reagan White House: even though Reagan was skewered routinely, Caspar Weinberger actually wrote Breathed a poem and corresponded with him, while Reagan himself called Breathed to laugh about one of the strips where he was portrayed. If only modern could laugh at themselves a bit. (I know, no chance of that, sadly....)This is a beautiful volume, and I bought the autographed copy; the autograph is on page two (mine is numbered 76/1000) and it is a great package overall. I cannot overstate how great this book is...it's a wonderful trip back to a much better time.0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Fantastic. Everything I had hoped for.By Don HausenThe book arrived ahead of schedule and was in mint condition. These collections are wonderfully bound and the layout is clean and crisp. I love the comments from Berke throughout the book. Gives a whole new insight to the story lines. Limited edition signed/numbered makes it even more special.2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. We complained and they listened!By SmarzBloom County is back in another chronological release of Berke Breathed's world famous ! Volume two presents the years 1982 through 1984, with plenty of Opus and Bill exploits to go around! However, if you're like me, you won't be satisfied just reading these strips. You will want the signed and numbered edition! Like the previous volume, this release is limited to 1000 signed and numbered books. Even better, the book makers seemed to have listened to the complaints of the customer (regarding vol. 1) and have fixed the problems:1. There is no gigantic sticker on the back! Remember that annoying thing that defaced the back cover of the previous signed volume? Well, it's been replaced with a tiny 4 inch long by 2 inch tall sticker that peels off like skin from a grape! I had mine clean off in one minute and looking as new as ever!2. Remember how the previous autograph by Berkeley Breathed was on a paper plate that was glued to the inside of the book? This time the autograph is on the second page! No need to worry about glue decomposition here! The same quality of binding and presentation are present in this release, making this the have-to-have version of the book! Even though the MSRP is $50 (still small, considering it's scarcity and the fact that Mr. Breathed himself signed it), the fact is they should be charging that priced for the unsigned edition! That's how impressive it is! For the signed version it's a no-brainer. Get it before it's gone forever!
