Special Contra Dances November 27 & 28 Thanksgiving Dance Weekend. You won’t want to miss the 26th annual Thanksgiving Festival, held at the lovely Salem United Church, 60 Bittner Street, Rochester. Dance on the newly refinished floor to music by the fabulous band Notorious: Eden MacAdam-Somer on fiddle and vocals and Larry Unger on guitar and banjo. Great calling by Carol Ormand. More fine music by Riverbend--Rebecca McCallum on fiddle, Jane Knoeck on keyboards and Tom Santarsiero on guitar, mandolin & feet. The weekend starts with a big dance on Friday night--actually, two big dances because while Contra is happening downstairs, English will be taking place upstairs. Saturday will be full of dances and workshops (with a break mid-day for a free buffet lunch) and more Contra and English on Saturday night. Our dances are participatory: contras, traditional squares and English country dances featuring live music and a variety of callers. Beginners are always welcome. Dances are taught and prompted, with more teaching at the beginning of the evening. Dances are alcohol free and smoke free. Please wear soft-soled, low heel shoes for your comfort and for the good of the hall. Dress is casual and you do not need to come with a partner.
