  • “The Great Challenges Ferrari – Maserati” the Cars Exhibited
“The Great Challenges Ferrari – Maserati” The cars exhibited FERRARI 340 MM s/n 0280 AM, 1953 Collezione Camellini The Ferrari 340 earned its place in racing history thanks to Giannino Marzotto’s victory in the Mille Miglia on April 28, 1953. It was built as an answer to the endless search for victory through engine power rather than the refinement of the chassis, the efficiency of the suspensions, the innovation of the parts. Before the Mille Miglia, this car raced in the Tour of Sicily on April 12, driven by Gigi Villoresi with Pasquale Cassani. These were the only two races for the Ferrari factory team: two victories. The car on show here is the one driven by Giannino Marzotto in the 1953 Mille Miglia. The same car also won the Tour of Sicily. It has belonged to the present owner’s family since 1964. FERRARI 250 TOUR DE FRANCE s/n 0793 GT, 1958 Private Collection It did not look like a racing car able to win on a circuit, hillclimb or open road, until the PF 704 bodywork was presented at the 1956 Geneva Motor Show. At Maranello they decided this was the right image for the 3 litre berlinetta they had created for the GT class races. In September 1956, the Tour de France Automobile saw Alfonso De Portago- Edmund Nelson’s victory with the 250 GT. This victory is probably at the origin of the unofficial name, TDF, Tour de France. The car on show here, sold to Giuliano Giovanardi in 1958, carried the driver to numerous hillclimb victories and the Italian Mountain Championship in 1959.

  • Date: 29 July 2014 Maserati Centennial Exhibition Open Throughout
Date: 29 July 2014 Maserati centennial exhibition open throughout the summer A unique exhibition in terms of the quality of the models on show, like the only remaining V4 16 cylinder and the A6 1500 of 1947, Maserati’s first road-going car. It’s held at the MEF, the Museo Enzo Ferrari, which “looks at” the Maserati headquarters in Viale Ciro Menotti, Modena and which also exhibits extraordinary Ferraris and Alfa Romeos. A month on from the opening of the exhibition dedicated to the Maserati centennial, MASERATI 100 - A Century of Pure Italian Luxury Sports Cars , the initial response from the public has been highly positive, with nearly 20,000 visitors. The celebration of a century of history for a car manufacturer allows the public to relive the story of an epoch and thrill, as they observe the course of events and unfolding of technological progress both through the cars on display and a film that stirs the passion of visitors with no fewer than 19 different projectors. Through anecdotes, curiosities, stories of exceptional men, rare and prestigious vehicles, also due to their current financial value. Visitors have the opportunity – unique, rather than rare – to admire the only Maserati Tipo V4 Sport 16 cylinderstill remaining in the world. In 1929 Alfieri Maserati twinned two 2-litre engines from the Tipo 26 in a single crankcase, with the two crankshafts linked by gears. On 28th September of the same year in Cremona, Baconin Borzacchini set the World Record for the Flying 10 Kilometres with the Tipo V4, at an average speed of 246.069 km/h.

NEWSLETTER OF THE ALFA ROMEO OWNERS CLUB – WISCONSIN— FEBRUARY 2017 ALFANATIC PRESIDENT’S COLUMN In the 1994 publication The Alfa Annual - AROC Around the World, former Edi- tor/President George Meikrantz used the word “diversity” to describe the mem- bers and vehicles of AROC-WI. As I look over our list of fifty-nine club mem- bers, I find that this is still true today. We are a diverse group of auto enthusiasts as interesting as our cars. Most own at least one Alfa but a number of you own several with the number topping out at six. The oldest Alfa in our club is a 1955 Giulietta and the newest is a 2015 4C. With the much-anticipated new Giulia available later this year we hope to have even greater diversity added to our group. The club has a collection of library materials that are available for your use. I had hoped to present this list last month but found my attention going elsewhere. Thanks for your patience. Please see the updated list in this issue. If you wish to check an item out of the library feel free to contact me. This is but one of the many benefits of club membership. I’m also working on creating a list of my per- sonal library which I will make available when completed. For anyone thinking about attending ALFA expo17 in Montreal you may wish to sign up sooner rather than later. Some of the events are bound to fill up quickly. Debbie and I are already registered and are very much looking forward to explor- ing Montreal.

  • Enzo Ferrari Museum, Modena, Italy
Project Description: Enzo Ferrari Museum, Modena, Italy In 2004 Future Systems won an international competition to design a new museum in Modena, Italy. Dedicated to motor racing legend and entrepreneur Enzo Ferrari (1898 – 1988), the museum comprises exhibition spaces within the early nineteenth century house where the motor racing giant was born and raised, and its adjoining workshop, as well as a separate, newly constructed exhibition building. Following the death of Jan Kaplicky in 2009, the office of Future Systems was dissolved1. Andrea Morgante, formerly of Future Systems and now director of Shiro Studio, was appointed to oversee the museum's completion. The new building has been constructed to Kaplický's original design– it is sensitive to the existing historical context, combines the latest in construction and energy saving technology, and resonates in spirit, language and materials with the cars it is intended to showcase. The fully restored house and workshop provide additional exhibition space designed by Morgante. New Exhibition Building The sculpted yellow aluminium roof with its ten incisions – intentionally analogous to those air intake vents on the bonnet of a car – allows for natural ventilation and day lighting, and both celebrates and expresses the aesthetic values of car design. With its 3,300 square metres of double-curved aluminium, the roof is the first application of aluminium in this way on such a large scale. Working together with boat builders whose familiarity with organic sculpted forms and waterproofing made them the ideal partner, and cladding specialists, the form is constructed from aluminium sheets fitted together using a patented tongue and groove system.
