Beginning on Monday, July 13, BPL will open seven libraries for limited services in the lobby:

 Bay Ridge Library  Bushwick Library  Central Library  Flatbush Library  Kings Highway Library  New Lots Library  Red Hook Library

Hours at these seven locations will be 10am to 4pm on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, and 1pm to 7pm on Tuesday and Thursday.

What's available? Starting July 13 at these seven locations, branch lobbies will be open for quick transactions:

 Holds Pickup: Patrons can pick up the books they've reserved in advance, and use our self-check machines or the BPL mobile app to check them out.  Returns: Patrons can return books into lobby book bins. There will be a 3-5 day delay for those returned items to be checked back into our system, as part of our new material handling protocols.

Masks will be required for both patrons and staff. You will be unable to enter the branch without a mask.

Materials that are checked out at these locations will not accrue fines for the time being, and fines continue to be suspended for anything checked out before the temporary closure. Throughout our phased reopening, our virtual programs and services are continually available

You can continue to check our location map to see whether your closest library is part of our next phase of reopening locations, or you can contact our Call Center ( 718.YOUR.BPL or 718.968.7275) if you need help with your account, have specific questions about our open locations, or if you'd like help reserving a book for pickup.

Fireworks, Independence Day, and Hamilton: Free Online Things To Do and See this Week 7/1/20 - By Toby B

Oh say can you see…fireworks? Depends where you are really. Some of our readership cities are going ahead with the whole rockets red glare, pretty colors in the sky routine, such as Chicago, Houston, and Orlando. Some are ‘sploding the rockets but asking you stay home and watch from the healthy social distance of your front porch. All of us have the option of tuning in to Independence Day celebrations from around the country. Speaking of tuning in...

There’s a million things I haven’t done, and top of the list is see Hamilton. But just you wait, just you wait…til July 3rd. Because that’s when Hamilton in all its Lin-Manuel Miranda glory premieres on Disney +. How lucky we are to be alive right now!

Do you know what's funny? I don't, but maybe my daughter will, thanks to How to Do Comedy: A Workshop for Girls. And she can learn about fireworks as Stemtastic works its way through the alphabet to F. Like other kids, what she wants to do is catch them all, so Snapology's Pokémania STEM camp is a perfect fit. She really is a rockstar (or will be after this week-long Virtual Rockstar Dance Camp). Lucky for us, all these activities and more can be found on our Poppins@Home platform. And finally, if you missed any sessions in our 2020 Camp Fair, you can still catch them all online!

Check our event calendar for even more family concerts, engaging stories, and star-studded virtual events. Our Stay-at-Home Guide has hundreds more activities and ideas of things to do.

Happy Birthday, America!
