About Us… Free Classes  English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) - ESOL Classes for beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels - ESOL Literacy classes (basic writing and reading in English) - English conversation practice groups  Adult Basic Education (ABE) for English Speakers - Small tutorial groups for reading, writing, and math - Independent study using computer software, audio, and other multimedia - Test Assessing Secondary Completion (TASC) - National External Diploma Program (NEDP)

 Family Learning/Family Literacy  Basic Computer Training An estimated 36% of Adult New Yorkers are at level one literacy skills about one and a half is functionally illiterate. That means that they cannot read a prescription label, newspaper  Citizenship Preparation or fill out a job application. An additional 25% of Queens residents do not speak English.  English for Parents The Flushing Adult Learning Center (Flushing ALC) is part of the Queens Borough Public  Workshops on Other Related Topics: Health Literacy, Financial Library’s Adult Learner Program. The Center provides resources to adult learners in various Literacy, Job Readiness, College Preparation, and More! capacities. We maintain an extensive collection of print and electronic media resources. A variety of web-based distant learning resources and multimedia materials to help adult literacy participants learn English and new readers navigate their community. Lifelong Learning Resources  Books, DVD, and Audio Collections for ESOL, ABE, and Pre-HSE PROGRAM GOALS Learners and Tutors The Family Literacy Learning Center is committed to serving all population in Queens to help adult learners and children achieve literacy and self-sufficiency. In line with its  Computer Assisted Learning Using Software and Online Programs commitment to better serve all the populations in Queens, the Queens opened Adult Learning Centers in areas where communities are most underserved: Ravenswood as well as Jamaica, Elmhurst, Flushing, Long Island City, Peninsula, Rochdale Case Management Services Village, and Steinway. The goal of Family Literacy Center is to be recognized by every  Referrals and Information on Food Stamps, Housing, Childcare, learner as a “safe haven” that provides ESOL and adult literacy (ABE) classes, in Education, Career Planning, Domestic Violence, Legal Assistance, preparation for their Pre-HSE classes, as well as multilingual information, resources and Employment, and More! referrals and a wide range of services (instructional, vocational, recreational, and family support) that will help them attain their goals. Family Literacy serves as multilingual information resource and referral centers, and provides adult literacy participants and their families with a wide array of instructional, Mission Statement vocational, recreational, family support, and social services. Instructional services include ABE, Pre-HSE, ESOL, Citizenship Preparation, Job Readiness/Resume Preparation, Small The Queens Library Adult Learner Program is committed to providing lifelong Literacy / English Learning Groups, Computer-Assisted Instruction, Monthly Cultural learning opportunities to address the needs of the diverse and changing populations Workshops & Center Outings, Independent Learning Materials, and Extensive Book and of Queens through free quality educational programs and services that incorporate digital literacy, blended learning, and individualized case management services. Multimedia Collections. These include Adult Basic Education, ESOL, Youth Literacy, and preparation for individuals seeking their High School Equivalency diploma.
