Q2: CASE STORY ABSTRACT

This project was the subject of a Memorandum of Agreement signed on month of August 2014 between the Ministry in charge of Livestock and the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE English) InterAfrican the Office for Animal Resources of the African Union. The objective of the project is to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders beekeeping in Madagascar through the following activities: (i) technical training for the benefit of executives of public administration and honey producers, (ii) staffing materials and equipment for public services including laboratory equipment, computers and motorcycles.

Q3: LONG DESCRIPTION OF THE CASE STORY

During the period of the embargo imposed by the European Union, companies wanted to export the mile to the European market. Hence the reason for the negotiation started since 2007 by Madagascar. This export authorization honey to the European market has been gained since 2011, unfortunately disease "varroa" was introduced in the country in 2010 before that period.

Hence the justification for the support provided by the European Union to allow Madagascar to control the disease and restart beekeeping in high growth areas affected and protect those that are not yet met. The objective and project activities mentioned above.

The intervention area covers seven areas with high potential for beekeeping, including Atsinanana, , Sofia, , Amoron'i Mania, and Atsimo Atsinanana.
