Activity 1. Introduce and watch the video - Ancient Egypt: Mummy Burial Customs. Before watching, ask the students to listen for different items that would be placed in the . 2. After watching the video, go to the Search tab, type in “mummy,” and show the students a few pictures like the Canopic Jars, Tutankhamun , and Tutankhamun’s Sarcophagus. 3. As a whole class, discuss the vocabulary word: customs. Then, discuss the burial customs of the ancient Egyptians. Ask the students what items were placed in the tomb according to

the video. The teacher writes the items on the board or on chart paper. (Examples should include: Canopic jars, utensils, clothes, food, drinks, etc.) 4. Explain to the students that they will be using clay/play dough to make four different miniature items that represent what might be found in an ancient Egyptian tomb. 5. After the clay items are completed, each student uses paper to make four Trioramas by Studies Weekly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aMzG800VsJM. ​ 6. The students will place each item on its own triorama and label the item or write a sentence about the item on the triorama. The four trioramas can be glued back-to-back to create a three dimensional triorama.

Differentiated Instruction 1. Students, who need more assistance, can complete one triorama and one clay item instead of four. 2. Students, who need to be challenged, can write more about each of the items displayed on their three dimensional trioramas.

Extension Activity 1. Students will go to www.Blabberize.com. (For more ​ ​ information about Blabberize, access your Studies Weekly online account > click on a publication > select a week > scroll ​ ​ down to K-6 General Resources > Lesson Resources > ​ ​ ​ ​ Studies Weekly Digital Developments. 2. Students will select the Search tab on the Studies Weekly ​ ​ website (studiesweekly.com/online) and type in “mummy” to find the Tutankhamun Death Mask. 3. Students will use the picture to create a Blabber. 4. Students can share facts about their items and other facts of interest from the video.
