We Official Magazine of Hollywood needed a good way to celebrate our anniversary and from all reports, mission accomplished. Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists. Published in the Interest of It all started when members Melanie Mills, Michael K. Johnston, Terrie Velazquez-Owen and ALL the Members of Make-Up Artists Shawn Finch formed a committee to explore the possibilities of resurrecting an awards show they & Hair Stylists I.A.T.S.E. Local 706 wantedLOCAL to take on. After discussing all the complications and short time periodNEW to accomplishS it, we decided to switchLOCA gearsL BUSINESS and launch a 75th anniversary party to see if we could do it wellEXTENDED and economi -FAMILY NEWS GUILD cally. The race was on. The Hollywood Museum would be the perfect place to hold the party, so we Supervising Editor GUILD NEWS met with Museum founder Donelle Dadigan and realized it would be the perfect venue. The Board JEFF ANGELL of Trustees had recommended that the committee find sponsorship for the soiree, so the challenge BEST MAKEUP & HAIRSTYLING was on. International President Matthew Loeb was in town, so I personally invited him, along with Contributing Writers Int’l VPs Mike Miller and Thom Davis to the party, along with representatives from other Locals. With their support, we enlisted the incred- INGLEDODD PUBLISHING ible PR firm of Weissman/Markovitz that had plenty of experience (and union publicists) to help us announce to Hollywood that Local 706 was celebrating its 75th birthday. Their energy, painstaking thoroughness and follow-through along with humor and kindness kept us charged up to the highest degree.     BBC Four biopics: Lessons in Trashy Respectability The broadcast of Burton and Taylor in July 2013 marked the end of a decade- long cycle of feature-length biographical dramas transmitted on BBC Four, the niche arts and culture digital channel of the public service broadcaster. The subjects treated in these biopics were various: political figures, famous cooks, authors of popular literature, comedians and singers. The dramas focused largely on the unhappy or complex personal lives of well-loved figures of British popular culture. From the lens of the 21st century, these dramas offered an opportunity for audiences to reflect on the culture and society of the 20th century, changing television’s famous function of ‘witness’ to one of ‘having witnessed’ and/or ‘remembering’ (Ellis, 2000). The programmes function as nostalgia pieces, revisiting personalities familiar to the anticipated older audience of BBC Four, working in concert with much of the archive and factual content on the digital broadcaster’s schedules. However, by revealing apparent ‘truths’ that reconfigure the public images of the figures they narrate, these programmes also undermine nostalgic impulses, presenting conflicting interpretations of the recent past. They might equally be seen as impudent incursions onto the memory of the public figures, unnecessarily exposing the real-life subjects to censure, ridicule or ex post facto critical judgement. Made thriftily on small budgets, the films were modest and spare in visual style but were generally well received critically, usually thanks to writerly screenplays and strong central performances. The dramas became an irregular but important staple of the BBC Four schedule, furnishing the channel with some of their highest ratings in a history chequered by low audience numbers.

Fuller was a victim of a workplace accident, and his ongoing medical issues have led him to hire Laura to see if she can reopen his case. He’s stubborn and won’t listen to Laura’s advice – though he seems to heed it when the same counsel comes from a male colleague. Thinking he has no other option, Fuller decides to take a security guard hostage in order to get his demands met. Laura must act as intermediary and exchange herself for the hostage, trying to convince Fuller to give himself up.
