Road Transport

• Has strated since 1920’s and played an important role in the transport sector of the country while other transport modes were not sufficiently providing countrywide service.

• After transition to the market economy as a result of government policy on privatization all road transport sector were privatized. (except four Ulaanbaatar city public bus companies) • As a part of Government ‘s Road network development mid- term strategy, in 2001 has started ‘Millennium road’ project.

• Main strategic road connected with Chienese border (Altanbulag – UB-Choir-Zamiin-Uud) has to be done in 2008, but only done paved road until Choir.

Asian Highway via Mongolia

The Mongolian Asian Highway links include following three main corridors:

• AH-3 that links regional markets of Siberia with the hinterland markets and the international eastern seaboard ports of China via main vertical road, Altanbulag--Ulaanbaatar-Nalaikh-Choir-- Zamiin uud • AH-4 which links the regional markets of Siberian region with Xinjiang Autonomous Region in China to the border with Pakistan via western vertical main road, Tsagaannuur-Olgy-Khovd-Yarant • AH-32 which forms the country’s principle east-west horizontal arterial corridor, Khovd--Ulaanbaatar--Sumber-Nomrog has its eastern junction with AH31 that provides access to the Korean Peninsula and its western junction with AH-4 in the western region of Mongolia.

Railway

• Mongolian Railway is managed by the Mongolian-Russian joint stock company.

• MR is dominant in freight transport and carries out over 90% of total freight turnover of Mongolia.

• ‘New railroad’ project has approved by the Government in 2010 as a part of Government’s Policy on Railway Development with goal to build infrastructure for mining deposits in where reserves are defined, promote industrialization and develop region’s society and economy by expanding rail way infrastructure

• Construction work of ‘New railroad’ project will start on second quarter of 2012
