(*) Important information on the new entrance regulations for Machu Picchu The current restrictions on visits to Machu Picchu establish that the first entry must be accompanied by a tour guide with a maximum stay of 4 hours within the archaeological center (guided tours last approximately 2 hours). If visitors are going to take an alternative route (Machu Picchu or Huayna Picchu mountains), they will have 3 additional hours to make those visits. If any passenger wishes to enter again in the afternoon shift or the next day, they must request in advanced an additional ticket to enter during the new shift. There is no ticket sales office at the door of the archeological zone. Likewise, it is necessary to provide the updated personal detail (full name, date of birth, nationality, and passport number or identity document) of all passengers who come to Peru, the same that must match the identity document that the passengers use for this trip. This information is especially important for visits to places such as the Inca Trail or the Sacred City of Machu Picchu (including Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain), where local authorities require the presentation of updated and original documentation at the entrance gates. Inti Raymi, the Sun Ceremony Itinerary Details Day 1: Cusco (- / - / -) Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting for you at the airport to transfer you to the selected hotel. Half Day Cusco City Tour After lunch we will pick you up from your hotel to start a city tour, visiting the San Pedro Market, where we will soak up the local flavors and get acquainted with the local products in this market that caters to the entire city. Then, we will visit the temple of the Qoricancha to admire its magnificence. The Quechua name "Qoricancha" means "Gold Enclosure" and its lavishness is still felt among those walls that were once completely covered in gold. Then, we will continue to the Plaza de Armas and the imposing Cathedral of Cusco, which houses colonial works of great value. From here, we will go to San Blas, the neighborhood of the artisans of Cusco. This part of the tour will be a short and easy descent on foot, visiting one of the most renowned artisan galleries in the city, until you reach Hatun Rumiyoc Street. In this street we will find the Inca Rock Palace, today known as the Archbishop's Palace, and finally we will have time to admire the world famous Stone of the Twelve Angles Return to the hotel. Overnight in Cusco. Day 2: Cusco / Aguascalientes (B / L / -) Sacred Valley of the Incas Early in the morning, we will begin our excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Our first stop will be at Awanacancha, a textile center where locals will show you their art in its most natural form and where you will be able feed Andean camelids from Peru, such as llamas, alpacas and vicuñas. Then we will go to the Archaeological Complex of Pisac and visit the lower part, where the agricultural area and the pre-Hispanic cemetery is located, considered the largest in America. Then, we will visit its craft market and the popular fair, located between its narrow streets. You will have a short time to make some shopping, and then will continue the tour along the Sacred Valley of the Urubamba to enjoy a buffet lunch (drinks not included). Finally we will reach Ollantaytambo, an Inca city still inhabited that preserves a complex system of irrigation canals and foundations of that time, on which most of the town was built. The archaeological center of Ollantaytambo has several groups of platforms, forts, squares, canals and the Royal House of the Sun, a megalithic temple of great mystical value. After this visit, we will transfer you to the station, to board the train to the town of Aguascalientes. Overnight in Aguascalientes. Day 3: Aguascalientes / Cusco (B / L / -) Visit to the archaeological complex of Machu Picchu The Sacred City of Machu Picchu was recognized as one of the wonders of the World and declared a World Heritage Site by the UNESCO. From to the town of Aguas Calientes we will ascend by bus to the Archaeological Center and start the guided tour that has duration of 2 hours approx. During the visit you can see temples, squares, terraces, houses, barns, as well as the great biodiversity that exists in the surroundings. It is worth noting that the beauty of Machu Picchu is exalted by the extraordinary scenery where it is located. Around the citadel it has been formed a National Reserve that has an area of 32,500 hectares, and that includes a constellation of archaeological monuments, which in our opinion, were built as part of the Machu Picchu complex and not in isolation. At the set time we will return to Aguas Calientes, where we have lunch included (drinks not included). Return by train. Upon arrival, our staff will be waiting for you to transfer you to the hotel. * Note: Optionally, and at an additional cost, for this day you can ask us to enter the Huayna Picchu mountain or Machu Picchu mountain, depending on availability. Overnight in Cusco. Day 4: Cusco (B / BL / -) Inti Raymi Celebration Inti Raymi is the most important holiday in Cusco and every year more than 100 thousand people attend this celebration. The Inti Raymi or the Sun Ceremony is a celebration that brings back the Inca tradition in the regions of the Andes, especially in the city of Cusco. This holiday is based on the ancient Inca ceremony known as the Wawa Inti Raymi. This ancient ritual was established by Pachacutec approximately aroundñ 1430s. The objective was to reorganize the empire with the cultural subjugation of the conquered peoples. With the passage of time, this ceremony was banned by the Spanish conquerors. Since 1944, the city of Cusco celebrates this festival as a revival of the Inca culture and as a tourist attraction. Although this festival is also celebrated in Ecuador and other Andean regions; today is one of the main festivities of Peru. June 24 is the day the ceremony in honor of the Sun god is celebrated, for which three impressive historical and natural scenarios will be used, and where you will be accompanied by our staff. We will leave the hotel early to attend the staging of the "Inti Raymi or Sun Festival" in the side courtyard of the Q'oricancha temple, continuing in the city's Main Square, and then go to the great staging on the esplanade of the Sacsayhuamam, where every year the ceremony is revived with great color and splendor.
