Since the local haciendas were disbanded in 1962 the economy and population o f the village have both declined and the remaining villagers have increased their engagement in the money economy. Nevertheless most contemporary villagers were suspicious o f urban Ecuador which they perceived as being organised exclusively according to trade transactions and saw themselves as belonging to a distinct moral community characterised by participation in exchange relations. Cabalano society was largely ordered according to the logic o f a 'good faith economy* and any breach o f the obligations inherent in exchange relations threatened not just the relationships between participants but the social order o f the Whole village.

The Incas proclaimed themselves to be the children of the Sun. They worshipped it and viewed their emperor as being the Sun’s direct descendant. The civilization of the Incas was built upon cultures that had preceded them such as the Huari, Nasca, and Chavin. Their period of dominance, lasting only a century, was far too short to independently develop such advanced forms of religion, social structure, construction, and astronomy. The Incas were adept assimilators of knowledge, both what was available at the time of their empire’s inception, as well as that of the many tribes conquered during their reign. The Emperor, Pachacuti, his son, and grandson successively built the largest empire ever known in the Americas, 4800 km from Chile to Columbia. They established armies in fortresses at distant stations with the infrastructure of roads and storehouses that was necessary to support them. Temples and shrines were constructed as a part of exerting state control over its subjects, as well as pilgrimage centers designed to reinforce the legitimacy of royal rule over the populace. Travel from Lima along the coast to Lake Titicaca, which is the world’s highest navigable lake. The journey continues through the mountains with the Inti Raymi Festival and the famous ancient Inca city: Machu Picchu which will be visit not once but twice! During the journey, you will get immersed with the culture and traditions of the Inca’s. Day 1: 6 June 2018 (Wednesday) – Lima Welcome to Lima, the capital of the cultural Peru. Upon your arrival at the airport we provide a transfer to your hotel which is arranged by us and where you have a for a pre-trip briefing. For the rest of the day go on an orientation tour of Miraflores, a gourmand neighbourhood of Lima. Take advantages of Peru’s national dish, ceviche, in one of the local restaurants. Overnight in Lima (Hotel Antigua Miraflores or similar) - There are no meals included on this day Day 2: 7 June 2018 (Thursday) – Alameda de Chabuca Granda A tour is provided through the city’s old streets with all the historical churches and places. Walk from the Plaza Mayor with the Cathedral of Lima to the San Francisco Monastery and continue to the Central Market with a variety of fresh food and the local delicacy, el cuy. From there on we visit the next area: Alameda de Chabuca Granda where you can try some authentic Peruvian desserts that you definitely have to try during your stay in Lima.
