Cotting School Annual Report Inspire Inspire T Cotting School, We Measure Success by the “Small Miracles” That Occur Every Day
cotting school annual report inspire inspire t Cotting School, we measure success by the “small miracles” that occur every day. These smallIntroduction miracles require a tremendous amount of time and persistence on the part of our students. But over time, collectively, they lead to Aincreased independence and inspire our entire community. Sparked by those same miracles, our students, faculty, staff, trustees, parents, and friends give of themselves every day. We hope you, too, are inspired by the stories in our annual report of those who are new and those who have made long-term commitments to Cotting School. 1 inspire To the Cotting School Community t is an understatement to say that it has been an inspiring Iyear. Cotting School has installed a new artificial turf playing field and renovated the existing playground, thus increasing access to the world of outdoor sports to all our students. In late March, after a three-year process, we received the final permits necessary from the Town of Lexington and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Leadership gifts from the Connelly and Killian families, and inspirational gifts from our alumni and friends, made our field a reality. On the first day of school in September, the entire student body played the inaugural soccer game on the new turf. The In October we hosted an evaluation team from the New England excitement was palpable! Outdoor gym classes, after-school Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Researched and soccer and flag football, and a Saturday morning soccer league written during the previous academic year by all faculty members have all been greeted enthusiastically by our students, many in collaboration, the self-study involved a rigorous examination of of whom have not previously played outdoor sports. -

“where a good crime C r i m e can be had by all” c h r o n i c l e Issue #242 MArch 2006 AUTHOR OF THE MONTH Skeleton Man: A Joe Leaphorn and Jim Chee novel Leaphorn comes out of retirement to help investigate what seems to be a trading post robbery. The simple kid nailed for the crime is related to a former colleague. Proving the kid’s innocence requires finding the remains of one of 172 people whose bodies were scattered over the Grand Canyon in an epic airline disaster 50 years ago. One of those passengers, a diamond dealer, had an attaché case containing a fortune in diamonds handcuffed to his wrist. Now his daughter is also seeking his body, and so is a most unpleasant fellow who is willing to kill to make sure she doesn’t succeed. These two tense tales collide deep in the canyon at the place where an old man died trying to build a cult-reviving reverence for the Hopi guardian of the Underworld. It is a race to the finish in a thunderous monsoon storm to see who will be brought to justice and who will finally unearth the Skeleton Man (Pb 19.95). Other titles in this excellent series starring two Navajo policemen include: Blessing Way, Coyote Waits (16.95), Dance Hall of the Dead (19.95), Dark Wind, The Fallen Man, Finding Moon, The Fly on the Wall, The Ghostway, Hunting Badger, Listening Woman, People of Darkness, Scared Clowns, The Sinister Pig, Skinwalkers, Talking God, A Thief of Time and The Wailing Wind (all 18.95 unless otherwise indicated). -

FINAL SALUTE Each year we note the passing of influential creators, performers, and institutions. These passings occurred between SoonerCon 28 and the original date for SoonerCon 29. American actress and singer Peggy Lipton passed away May 11, 2019. Her best-known acting role was as undercover cop Julie Barnes on The Mod Squad, 1968-1973. She won a new generation of fans when she ran the Double R Diner as Norma Jennings, in Twin Peaks. Doris Day was a big-band singer, TV and film actress, and talk-show host. She won several awards for comedy and popularity. She was also an activist for animal welfare, lending her star power to several organizations bearing her name. She died May 13, 2019. Domestic cat Tardar Sauce was better known as the meme she unwittingly founded: Grumpy Cat. Dwarfism contributed to her scowling face, which graced ads for Friskies and General Mills Honey Nut Cheerios. The frowning feline cashed in her lives on May 14, 2019. The career of the inspired Tim Conway began in 1962 and lasted through TV, movies, voice-overs, and video games. Among his noted appearances were the goofy Dorf; four years on McHale ‘s Navy; eleven years on The Carol Burnett Show; several solo TV shows; and as Barnacle Boy, 1999-2012, on SpongeBob SquarePants. Freeview 81 Film Club Sky 328 newsletter Freesat 306 OCT/NOV 2020 Virgin 445 Dear Supporters of Film and TV History, Hoping you are all well in these strange times. It has certainly been a month of ‘Keep Calm and Carry On’ here! We were so sad to hear the recent news of the sad loss of French singer and actress Juliet Gréco who was recently seen in Whirpool and The Big Gamble on Talking Pictures TV. Also, our own dear Dame Diana Rigg DBE sadly passed away recently; there is a tribute to her on page 12. Good news on the ‘lost film can’ front – we’ve found another episode of No Hiding Place on 16mm from a viewer’s private collection! Lots of interesting short films have also been brought forward – so do keep on checking your lofts, sheds and under the bed…. I’m very proud of our new DVD release this month - it’s a charming film with George Cole and Prunella Scales:The Ghost of Greville Lodge. A wonderful film for all the family and a nice gift. Noel was the Executive Producer on the film and we have very fond memories as a family of being on set with George and Prunella. I was actually supposed to play one of the parts, but alas I didn’t make it through to the final audition! It’s now presented with optional subtitles for the very first time and just £10 with FREE UK postage. Details on pages 2 and 3. The second project I’ve been working on this month is a wonderful AUDIO BOOK of SCROOGE narrated by dear George Cole himself. -

The Antaeus Company presents “… between the extremes of CHEKHOV X 4 the established regional stages and tiny theatrical groups struggling to survive are a number of surprising success stories. The Antaeus Company is one of these.” David Mermelstein The New York Times THE PROPOSAL THE ANNIVERSARY THE BEAR SWAN SONG by Anton Chekhov World Premiere Translations by Nicholas Saunders and Frank Dwyer NewPlace Theatre Center 4900 Vineland Avenue Alicia Wollerton and Nike Doukas in The Liar NoHo Arts District Letter from the Artistic Directors "Youth, Nikitushka! Freshness! Life! . Where you've got art, there's no room for old age, there's no room for loneliness or being ill. Even death's only half itself!" — Anton Chekhov, Swan Song Chekhov's words in the play you'll see tonight so poignantly express why we are here, and why we’re happy you are here with us. Art is what sustains us, gives meaning to the mundane, permanence to the passing, and calls us to our highest potential as people. What you will see tonight is the great wealth of our company -- wealth that won't be immediately obvious when you walk in. You won't see it in the rather modest (but most welcome) studio theater you sit in. You won't see it in our offices, or if you walk a little north, in our shell of a mainstage theatre. You won't see it in our bank account or in our (non-existent) salaries. Our wealth resides in our ensemble itself, in the talent and expertise and standing of our actors, directors, designers and other theater artists we attract; in Founding Artistic Director Dakin Matthews' vision for the company, in the members of our diverse and multi-talented Board of Directors, and in the enthusiasm of our audiences, many of you loyal supporters who have been with us for years. -
FI 1643U Paths of Gloryby Jeffrey Archer
FI 1643U Paths of Gloryby Jeffrey Archer Some people have dreams that are so magnificent that if they were to achieve them, their place in history would be guaranteed. People like Christopher Columbus, Isaac Newton, Florence Nightingale, Thomas Edison, Nancy Astor, Charles Lindbergh, Amy Johnson, Edmund Hilary and Neil Armstrong—their unparalleled success has made their stories into legend. But what if one man had such a dream, and once he‘d achieved it, there was no proof that he had fulfilled his ambition? Jeffrey Archer‘s new novel, Paths of Glory, is the story of such a man—George Mallory. Born in 1886, he was a brilliant student who became part of the Bloomsbury Group at Cambridge in the early twentieth century and served in the Royal Garrison Artillery during World War I. After the war, he married, had three children, and would have spent the rest of his life as a schoolteacher, but for his love of mountain climbing. Mallory once told a reporter that he wanted to climb Mt. Everest, ―because it is there.‖ On his third try in 1924, at age thirty-seven, he was last seen four hundred feet from the top. His body was found in 1999, and it remains a mystery whether he and his climbing partner, Andrew Irvine, ever reached the summit. FI 1644U The Chase by Clive Cussler April 1950: The rusting hulk of a steam locomotive rises from the deep waters of a Montana lake. Inside is all that remains of three men who died forty-four years before. But it is not the engine or its grisly contents that interest the people watching nearby. -

Abstract Rooted in the field of Descriptive Translation Studies, the thesis combines such different areas as (corpus) linguistics, literary, cultural, media and socio-historical studies of the UK, the Netherlands and Germany. Five translations (three German and two Dutch) of Agatha Christie’s first detective novel The Mysterious Affair at Styles are analysed. Using the theories by Itamar Even-Zohar (Polysystem Theory) and Gideon Toury (Translation Norms), the different approaches translators have taken to the text are examined and their translation decisions explained by looking at the status and position translations from English, detective stories as such, and the writer Agatha Christie had in the country and at the time these translations were published. -
