The eco- nomic situation made it impossible if not extremely unlikely that publication of this work could be supported by any one association. The Broadcast Education Association, the Speech Communication Association and the Association for Recorded Sound Collections 4all indicated their basic support of the project, but funds were unavailable. We wish to thank specifically Dr. Lawrence Lichty, chairman of the puhlicaion committee of the Broadcast Education Association, Dr. Pat Kennicott and Dr. Jerry Feezel of the Speech Communication Association and Mr. Gerald Gibson of the Association for Recorded 4./ ,Sound Collections. We also wish to thank the Computer Center of Memphis State University for designing the program And keeping out data over the period of time this project was underway. We hope that it will be used and that collectors of radio pro- gram materials will be aware of this catalog's existence. 0 Marvin R. Teachers and researchers have generally found it difficult to obtain recordings of old radio programs. Therefore, a search was conducted for sources of such materials. This publication is the result. It is by no means complete; but it is more extensive in its scope than, other publications located to date. It is hoped that this type of research will not only contribute to further efforts of this nature but will also lead to a greater utilization of existing material to assist and improve the teaching of broadcast history. Section I consists of an annotated list of broadcast programs available on commercial phonograph records. Other materials not as readily available can be located in Gary M. Shivers M.A% thesis entitled, "Recorded Documents in Public Communication: A Discography of Broad- casting and Public Address," (University of Kansas, 1972). Section II consists of an annotated listing of associations concerned with the preservation of recorded broadcast material; organi- zations which sell programs; newsletters and publications by individuals who collect and trade old radio programs among other collectors; and institutions which have collections which are available to some degree for research and teaching purposes. Section III is a computerized catalog of over 100 private collec- tions which was devised to locate specific programs as well as give some idea of the depth of available material from such sources.
