Fox Borat: Learningsof America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan Sacha Baron Cohen brings his Borat character to the big screen with this feature length adaptation of his American exploits. Fans of Da Ali G Show will already be familiar with the devilishly simple Borat formula, in which the heavily mustachioed TV host from Kazakhstan dupes a number of unwitting citizens into revealing their deepest prejudices, and this movie takes that premise, stirs in a little narrative structure, and serves a side-splitting 84-minute mirth-fest. The action begins with Borat traveling to America alongside his pro- ducer Azamat Bagatov (Ken Davitian). After a hotel room viewing of Baywatch Borat decides he must travel to California to woo Pamela Anderson, so he and the long-suffering Azamat take a cross-country road trip in an ice cream van, encountering some funny, disturbing, and deeply strange individuals along the way. Fox The Pretender Movie Edition This pair of made-for-TV movies follows the action of the action-driven drama The Pretender. In Pretender 2001, Jarod (Michael T. Weiss) meets two people from his past who reveal secrets about the mysterious Centre. This movie also begins with a recap of the show for those unfamiliar with the series. Pretender: Island Of The Haunted finds Jarod and Miss Parker (Andrea Parker) stuck on an island. As they learn more about their shared history, they must try to survive the deadly environment. Fox Machine Michael Madsen and James Russo claim starring roles in Machine, a crime-riddled thriller about life on the seedier side of Los Angeles. Vic an ex mercenary turned hardened criminal and his partner Frank survive in LA’s underground. They spend each day immersed in a cesspool of ruthless crime lords, dirty cops and desperate drug dealers. Their goal is simple…work both sides of the street and grab as much cash as possible. A fine idea until all factions are entwined in their plot and the result turns into a brutal earth-shattering explosion of evil versus evil. When publications, films, radio and television broadcasts, artwork and so on, deeply offend and upset the religious sensibilities of devout citizens, should the state intervene? Should insulting religious material be banned? This question was, of course, acutely raised, but not necessarily answered, on the world stage with the furore over the Danish newspaper editorial cartoons depicting the Prophet Muhammad in a highly unflattering light.' In New Zealand, a controversy over a satirical television programme generated similar feelings of outrage and indignation on the part of certain believers - fortunately without any violence erupting - and this event provides the impetus for this article. In February 2006, Canwest TV Works Ltd screened "Bloody Mary", an episode in the American Soufl~Park satirical cartoon series, on one of its television channels. In brief, the episode featured a statue of the Virgin Mary spraying menstrual blood on a cardinal and the Pope. Many complaints ensued, including one from the New Zealand Catholic Bishops Conference that charged that the show was deeply insulting and that it demeaned icons and practices venerated by Catholics. It said great pain and offence had been caused not only to the Catholic community, but also to members of other Christian denominations, Muslims and many non-Christians. In that last respect it is interesting that nonc other than the Prime Minister, Helen Clark, a self-confessed agnostic, said that, as a woman, she was offended: "I personally find it quite revolting."' The numerous complaints to CanWest did not lead it to change its mind and, indeed, it brought forward the scheduled date of screening by three months.

The first page of each of each review is objective; it includes factual information about the film and a synopsis not of the plot, but of how temporal phenomena were treated in the plot. The second page of the review is subjective; it includes the genre where I placed the film, my general comments and then a brief discussion about which model of time I felt was being used and why. It finishes with a diagrammatic representation of the timeline used in the film. Note that if a film has only one diagram, it is because the different journeys are using the same model of time in the same way. Sometimes several journeys are made. The present moment on any timeline is always taken at the start point of the first time travel journey, which is placed at the origin of the graph. The blue lines with arrows show where the time traveller’s trip began and ended. They can also be used to show how information is transmitted from one point on the timeline to another. When choosing a model of time for a particular film, I am not looking at what happened in the plot, but rather the type of timeline used in the film to describe the possible outcomes, as opposed to what happened.

Preface With some hesitation at CBS, Cayuga Productions continued Twilight Zone for what would be its last season, with a thirty-six episode pipeline – a larger count than had been seen since its first year. Producer Bert Granet, who began producing in the previous season, was soon replaced by William Froug as he moved on to other projects. The fifth season has always been considered the weakest and, as one reviewer stated, “undisputably the worst.” Harsh criticism. The lopsidedness of Seasons 4 and 5 – with a smattering of episodes that egregiously deviated from the TZ mold, made for a series much-changed from the one everyone had come to know. A possible reason for this was an abundance of rather disdainful or at least less-likeable characters. Most were simply too hard to warm up to, or at the very least, identify with. But it wasn’t just TZ that was changing. Television was no longer as new a medium. “It was a period of great ferment,” said George Clayton Johnson. By 1963, the idyllic world of the 1950s was disappearing by the day. More grittily realistic and reality-based TV shows were imminent, as per the viewing audience’s demand and it was only a matter of time before the curtain came down on the kinds of shows everyone grew to love in the 50s.

    Ellery Queen Master Detective Ellery Queen was one of two brainchildren of the team of cousins, Fred Dannay and Manfred B. Lee. Dannay and Lee entered a writing contest, envisioning a stuffed‐shirt author called Ellery Queen who solved mysteries and then wrote about them. Queen relied on his keen powers of observation and deduction, being a Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson rolled into one. But just as Holmes needed his Watson ‐‐ a character with whom the average reader could identify ‐‐ the character Ellery Queen had his father, Inspector Richard Queen, who not only served in that function but also gave Ellery the access he needed to poke his nose into police business. Dannay and Lee chose the pseudonym of Ellery Queen as their (first) writing moniker, for it was only natural ‐‐ since the character Ellery was writing mysteries ‐‐ that their mysteries should be the ones that Ellery Queen wrote. They placed first in the contest, and their first novel was accepted and published by Frederick Stokes. Stokes would go on to release over a dozen "Ellery Queen" publications. At the beginning, "Ellery Queen" the author was marketed as a secret identity. Ellery Queen (actually one of the cousins, usually Dannay) would appear in public masked, as though he were protecting his identity. The buying public ate it up, and so the cousins did it again. By 1932 they had created "Barnaby Ross," whose existence had been foreshadowed by two comments in Queen novels. Barnaby Ross composed four novels about aging actor Drury Lane. After it was revealed that "Barnaby Ross is really Ellery Queen," the novels were reissued bearing the Queen name.
