Emerged in Ratropolis and completely out of his element, Roddy is immediately caught up in an adventure. Paramount Beauty and the Beast Season 1 A time-tested fairytale received a modern-day update--and made an unlikely sex symbol of bearish actor Ron Perlman--in the late-1980s drama Beauty And The Beast. Created by Ron Koslow (Birds Of Prey), the series centered on the love between New York dis- trict attorney Catherine Chandler (Linda Hamilton, The Terminator) and a deformed but chivalric man- beast named Vincent (Perlman, City Of Lost Children), who lived in the city's labyrinthine underground passageways along with an entire community of fellow outcasts. As Catherine's crime-fighting duties frequently placed her in mortal danger, Vincent was there to save her from harm and share a star- crossed love that could never be consummated, providing the series with much of its achingly romantic appeal. Fueled by equal parts mystery, romance, and fantasy, Beauty And The Beast is resurrected in this collection that presents the series' debut season in its entirety. Paramount Hawaii Five-O Season One One of TV's longest-running crime dramas (only Law & Order would sur- pass its record-setting 12-year run), the 1970s television series Hawaii Five-O captivated audiences with its smart and stylish take on the standard policier formula. Filmed entirely on the Hawaiian archipelago, the action-packed series followed the crime-fighting adventures of an elite state-police squad anchored by quintessential tough guy Steve McGarrett () and his detective team of Danny "Danno" Williams (James MacArthur), Chin Ho Kelly (Kam Fong), and Kono Kalakaua (Zulu). Almost single- handedly rewriting the book on police dramas, the series distinguished itself with intricate plotting, inventive cinematography, exotically beautiful locations, and, of course, an indelible theme song and a timeless catchphrase ("book 'em, Danno!"). Paramount Season 9 What began as a construction-paper film short evolved into a veritable pop-cul- ture phenomenon for and 's outrageous animated comedy series South Park. Centered on the hilarious misadventures of four potty-mouthed grade-schoolers in the perpetually win- try environs of South Park, Colorado, the series skewers the vagaries of the modern American cultural landscape with politically incorrect humor and satirical plotlines ranging from homophobia and terror- ism to boy bands and talking poo. With its almost relentlessly bleak perspective of the future, Alfonso Cuarón's film doesn't make for pleasant viewing. But it's an exhilarating experience because the picture is an incredible dystopian drama that lacks all of the typical trappings of the genre. Set uncomfortably close to the present, it paints a frighteningly realistic picture of the future. In 2027, every woman on earth is infertile. With the loss of their ability to have children, the world has also lost hope. Clive Owen (CLOSER) plays Theo, a Briton attempting to make a life in this hellish world. His estranged wife (Julianne Moore) convinces him to help transport a young woman to safety. When Theo learns that the woman is pregnant, their journey takes on a significance--and a danger--he never imagined. This is Cuarón's best film to date, a strong statement considering his wonderful Harry Potter And The Prisoner Of Azkaban and Y Tu Mama También. Filmed using a handheld camera, the action draws the audience close, making the horror that much more real. In addition to its remarkable car chase scenes, the film features impressive acting. With his expressive face and voice, Owen gives a nuanced performance that ranks with the best of his career. As a reclusive hippie, Michael Caine shares a charming, counterculture view of the crumbling world. Chiwetel Ejiofor brings gravity to the role of a terrorist that others might have overlooked. Just when the film threatens to overwhelm with its sense of dread, small moments of comedy show through with Owen's wry sense of humor and Caine's perfect delivery. When the credits roll, Children Of Men leaves the audience feeling shell- shocked, not only because of its brutal prophecy, but also because it's such a brilliant film. Universal Private School At the snooty Cherryvale Academy for Women, two girls -- one nice, the other not -- have their sights set on the same guy, a student at the neighboring Freemount Academy for Men. Comic shennanigans ensue as the two babes wrangle over their man. Meanwhile, the other Freemount boys, desperate for a glimpse of nubile young flesh, will stop at nothing to catch the Cherryvale girls with their clothes off. Universal Man of the Year on 1987's Good Morning Vietnam and 1992's Toys, reunite for the political thriller/ Man Of The Year. Williams stars as Tom Dobbs, of a comedy talk show who, fed up with the political system, suddenly decides to run for president. So off he goes on a national bus tour, joined by his manager, Jack Menken (Christopher Walken), and his head writer, Eddie Langston (Lewis Black), bringing his message of change to an eager public. Meanwhile, Eleanor Green (Laura Linney), who works for Delacroy, the company that has developed the voting machines being used by the government, discovers a serious glitch in the program that alters the results of the election. She tries to tell the company's CEO (Rick Roberts) and chief counsel/spokesman (Jeff Goldblum), but they want everything hushed up so their stock prices aren't affected and their upcoming international deal goes through. Unable to hold back , Green looks to Dobbs for help while being hunted down by Delacroy. Levinson, the director of such suc- cessful films as Diner, Avalon, and Wag The Dog--the latter also set in the political arena--has crafted a fast-paced, seriocomic look at 21st-century America, especially since the possible voting problems encountered in the presidential elections of 2000 and 2004. Part Jon Stewart, part Bill Maher, part Ross Perot, Dobbs is a funnyman who decides to do something about the sorry state of the country. Universal Let's Go To Prison Dax Shepard (Employee Of The Month) stars in this prison comedy as John Lyshitski, a lifelong petty criminal who is all too familiar with the criminal justice system. For Lyshitski, prison is a second home where he knows all the rules and runs the show. After being released from his most recent jail stay, Lyshitski decides it’s time to avenge the man responsible for it all. But to his horror, Lyshitski learns he’s been freed just moments after the death of his nemesis, Judge Biederman. Needing someone to take out his grudge on, Lyshitski sets his sights on the judge’s son, Nelson Biederman IV (Will Arnett). A well-groomed, high-powered executive who verges on uptight, Biederman looks like he wouldn’t make it through one night in a jail cell. But as the result of Lyshitski’s tricky maneuvers, Biederman finds himself sentenced to several years in a penitentiary that would intimidate even a seasoned criminal. Proving just how far he’ll go for revenge, Lyshitski also gets himself arrested so that he can make his target’s life a living hell. Let’s Go To Prison is what you’d expect from a prison comedy. Beyond the usual rape jokes and fist fights, the film finds humor in jail cell decoration, toilet wine, and unlikely bonds between inmates. Universal Garfield and Friends An Ode To Odie 's lovable fat cat Garfield (voiced by Lorenzo Music) is back in this 13-episode collection, taking time off in between naps and lasagna binges to torment his dim-bulb doggy mate, Odie. Among the episodes featured in this collection are "The Fairy Dogmother," "Moo Cow Mutt," "Ode to Odie," "Odie the Amazing," "Truckin' Odie," "Airborne Odie" and "Odielocks and the Three Cats." Fox Christy The Complete Series This series takes viewers to rural Tennessee in the early 20th century as a young woman tries to adjust to her life as a schoolteacher. Fox A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints Writer Dito Montiel’s high- ly cinematic memoir of his childhood in Queens, New York, makes the leap to the big screen, with the author himself getting behind the camera to helm this powerful, and at times gut-wrenching, adapta- tion. The film flits back and forth between the adult Montiel’s (Robert Downey Jr.) emotional return to the neighborhood after a 15-year gap, and the childhood antics that led to his younger self (played by Shia LeBouf) fleeing to Los Angeles in 1986. Downey’s older brother Montiel is an introspective, quietly successful author who comes home after he is informed of his father’s (Chazz Palminteri) life- threatening illness. LeBouf’s teenage Montiel is a young tearaway who runs into constant trouble with his gang of friends, falls in love with local looker Laurie (Rosario Dawson), and dreams of an escape from the city with his Scottish friend, Mike (Martin Compston). The balance of the film tilts in favor of the kids, with most of the action taking place in 1986. These scenes acutely capture the punishing heat of the summer, with the teenage gang soaked in sweat and dirt as they trample through their crumbling Queens ghetto. Channing Tatum gives a terrifying performance as Montiel’s violent young friend, Antonio, and Palminteri is equally intimidating, filling the screen with palpable rage as he barks at the older and younger versions of his son. First Look New On DVD from Paramount The Second Season While following in the tradition of conventional Westerns like or Have Gun Will Travel, the innovative 1960s television series tweaked the genre by infusing science- elements and James Bond-like espionage plotlines. As dashingly handsome secret agent James T. West () and his master-of-disguise sidekick, Artemus Gordon (Ross Martin), investigated crimes in the late-1800s Wild West, the series distin- guished itself with anachronistically high-tech gadgetry (a pioneering style that would later be come to known as "steampunk") and an odd assemblage of villains that included the delightfully demented dwarf, Miguelito Loveless (Michael Dunn). Eccentric and visionary, the series is resurrected in this collection of remastered episodes from the second season. Paramount Final Seasons 7, 8 & 9 I Love Lucy debuted in 1951 and quickly set a new standard for situation comedy with its well-crafted plotlines, live tapings, multiple camera angles, and one of the finest ensemble casts in television history. Centered around the domestic life of zany redhead Lucy Ricardo () and her Cuban-born husband Ricky (Lucy's real-life spouse ), the series also broke the cultural taboos of the whitebread 1950s by featuring an interracial marriage and a female lead who was less than the obedient housewife. Indeed, it was Lucy's neverending quest to muscle in on her husband's show business career--often with the help of meddlesome next-door neigh- bors Fred (William Frawley) and Ethel Mertz (Vivian Vance)--that provided the show its main comedic thrust and continues to lend it a timelessly classic appeal. This collection presents the series' unofficial seventh, eighth, and ninth seasons, which were really one-hour specials that continued the I Love Lucy show after its final run in 1957. Fox A Little Trip To Heaven Three independent events come together in this pleasantly elusive film that tends toward both a stylized thriller and a dry comedy. Director Baltasar Kormákur (The Sea) does not shirk from stripping the genre of a few clichés and enriching it with details and visually pregnant sketches of a world that may well be 1980s Minnesota, but at the same time seems to deny any notion of place and time. In this mysterious universe, insurance agent Abe Holt (Forest Whitaker) is investigating the suspicious death of the driver of a burned-out car. Holt has to work out whether the dead man, a conman with a criminal record, could possibly have been the victim of an attempt to swindle the insurance company. When he meets Isolde (Julia Stiles), the dead man's sister, whose face is disfigured by severe scars, Holt slowly begins to lose his professional distance. Against the back- drop of a hostile, endless and harsh Midwest, the characters reveal themselves to be multi-layered, involved in a curious yet balanced plot. In Holt must decide if doing the right thing is worth doing something very, very wrong. First Look National Lampoon's Van Wilder The Rise of Taj The legacy of perpetual college party-man Van Wilder lives on in National Lampoon?S Van Wilder 2: The Rise Of Taj, as his former apprentice Taj Mahal Badalandabad (Kal Penn) takes the torch to jolly old England, where he is continuing his edu- cation at stuffy Camford University. At first things look bleak for Taj, despite his gleaming newfound confidence and hip makeover from his days at Coolidge College, as he is rejected by the prestigious fraternity, Fox and Hounds, and ends up boarding with a group of misfits. Driven to live up to his for- mer mentor?s good name and also to make his father proud, Taj sets out to prove his big-man-on- campus potential by unabashedly leading his outcast housemates in an attempt to defeat the wealthy elite of Camford in a range of competitions for the coveted Hastings Cup. MGM Mr. & Mrs. Smith Named after a 1941 Alfred Hitchcock film, Mr. And Mrs. Smith is really its own ball of flaming wax, with enough sizzling chemistry between stars and Brad Pitt to blow up a small building. He shows he is equally adept in comedy and action, and she manages to set new screen standards of bad-ass sexiness. It's impossible to dislike this pair, or a movie that makes being married seem like such insane fun. Pitt and Jolie play extremely skilled professional assassins who have managed to stay married for five years ever realizing each other's profession because they work for rival agencies and the work is top secret. When their paths eventually cross on a high-level hit, one of the most lethal battles of the sexes in the history of cinema is officially on. Thanks to a genuinely witty script, the issue isn't who will win, but whether the couple will realize they are meant for each other before it's too late. Director Doug Liman was obviously the right choice for the material, having proved his ability to fuse engaging romance with knuckle-biting action in 2002's The Identity. The comedy is sophisticated and witty, the action is visceral and intense, and there is plenty of satisfying eye candy. Another plus is Vince Vaughn as a fast-talking fellow hit man who lives with his mother. The cinematography is by Bozan Bajelli (the genius behind 's best mid-1980s work) who imbues each environment, whether it's the Smith's house, or the urban streets--with its own evocative color scheme and feel. Fox A Walk in the Clouds After World War II ends, a disillusioned veteran (Keanu Reeves) is working as a traveling salesman when he meets a pregnant woman (Aitana Sanchez-Gijon) enroute to Napa Valley to help her family with the grape harvest. She needs someone to pose as her husband at her family's vineyard, and the ex-soldier agrees. Director Alfonso Arau (Like Water for Chocolate) spins a tale of mystical romance based on a 1942 Italian film of the same name. Fox Moonstruck Under the magic of the full moon, an Italian-American family tries to sort out their romantic entanglements and find happiness. Tired of being single, and longing for security, widow Loretta Castorini agrees to marry Johnny Cammareri, a man she admittedly doesn't love. While he visits his dying mother in Sicily, she visits his estranged brother Ronny in order to invite him to the wedding, and, much to her surprise, finds herself deeply attracted to him. Loretta's parents have equal- ly complex romantic lives; her father is involved in a long-term affair, while her mother is avidly pur- sued by a college professor. Will they all be able to take a chance on love again? Fox
