Logo (redesign)

2009 marked the release of MNN’s new logo. The squares represent both the eight sectors and the eight regions that support our work. The M for Massachusetts and the N for Network both touch and bolster the large N, which stands for Nonprofit. This illustrates how these aspects of our organization support nonprofits with Nonprofit as the premier focus.

Background (2007 and beyond) In 2007, hundreds of 501(c)(3) and (c)(4) nonprofits statewide began to find their voice and speak as one when MNN was launched. MNN membership is made up of nonprofit members and for-profit affiliate members who work closely with the nonprofit sector. MNN is organized with a focus on the eight regions of Massachusetts and the eight sectors of the nonprofit community:

Advocacy (a voice for the sector)

MNN works to represent the voice and interests of the nonprofit community across the Commonwealth to government officials at the local, state, and national level. We also work to educate our members about policy issues that directly affect the sector, including how organizations can get involved in advocacy, comply with new laws, and benefit from government programs.

Each spring, MNN holds an Annual Legislative Day on Beacon Hill. Nonprofit leaders from across the date are invited. The day includes training in how to work with your legislator, a briefing on what nonprofits can and can not do, and a briefing on the issues facing the sector and conclude with legislative visits.

(bolstering the image) Public Awareness One of the most chronic challenges facing the nonprofit sector is how to educate the public about the importance and effectiveness of organizations across the state. MNN works to increase public awareness of the sector as a whole, and how the people and organizations within it make communities across the Commonwealth better places to live. MNN emphasizes the efforts of those who build strong communities by doing essential work-work that is not just nice, but necessary; being efficient-doing more with less, and being effective-doing good, and doing it well.
