2019 ANNUAL REPORT OUR M ISSION The Boys & Girls Clubs of MetroWest provides social, educational, physical, and cultural programming for boys and girls in the MetroWest area. The intent of these programs is to enhance the development of children and to prepare young adults to be responsible and productive members of the community. OUR PROGRAM S Character & Leadership Keystone Club Torch Club Youth of the Year Education & Career Project Learn Money Matters Power Hour Career Launch Club Tech Healt h & Life Skills SMART Mo ves SMART Girls Passport to Manhood Sports, Fitness & Recreation Triple Play Youth Basketball Program Happy Hours Preschool Happy Hours Preschool, located in the Marlborough Clubhouse, is fully licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care. Our group of teachers provide a safe and nurturing environment where opportunities for small group, as well as large group, activities focus on developing physical, intellectual, social, and emotional growth. Classes are offered for children 2.9 years to 5 years of age. Discovery Club The Discovery Club before and after-school child care program at the Marlborough Clubhouse and four Marlborough public schools is fully licensed by the Department of Early Education and Care. We m aintain a 1:13 staff to child ratio, provide a diverse program curriculum, and offer daily healthy snacks. The program curriculum offers structured activities and classes designed to create a balance between having fun and working to enrich educational and life experiences. Faces of the Future Framingham Clubhouse Nathan R., Age 8, Third Grade Member since 2019 What is your favorite thing to do at the club? “Playing air hockey and pool in the Games Rooms with my friends.” What is your favorite Club memory? “When I won my first game of air hockey!” What do you want to be when you grow up? “A construction worker.” Argeo R. Cellucci, Jr. Clubhouse, Hudson Audrey G., Age 11, Fifth Grade Member since 2017 What is your favorite activity at the Club? “The gym games and open gym.” What is your favorite Club memory? “The snow tubing trip with Alexis and Aayana.” How has the Club impacted your life? “The club has impacted my life by bringing me closer to my friends and making new friends that are not in my grade.” Marlborough Clubhouse Ricky T, Age 16, Ninth Grade Member since 2012 What is your favorite activity at the Club? “The Keystone Program” How does the club inspire you? “It inspires me by seeing how the club and the staff can change kids’ lives for the better by making positive relationships with them.” What does the club community mean to you? “Growing up in the club gave me a safe and positive environment that allowed me to grow into a mature, young adult. Anniversary In May, the Boys & Girls Club of MetroWest hosted a celebration in honor of its 75th year of serving youth in the MetroWest community. More than 200 guests attended the open-house style event, which was held at the Marlborough Clubhouse. Club members led discussions on the Club’s key program areas as well as the Summer Camp program, Happy Hours Preschool, and Discovery Club. Guests had the opportunity to take a tour of the Club, participate in a cake raffle, and enjoy delicious appetizers donated by Evviva Trattoria and 110 Grill. Summer Cam p Summer Camp was hosted at all three of our Clubhouses for 8-9 weeks throughout the Summer. Each day was filled with activities such as outdoor hiking, crafts, tie-dye, sports, and group challenges. In addition to the Club programs, campers also enjoyed going on field trips to Red Sox games, the Museum of Science, and Georges Island. Cam pers were even able to tackle their summer reading list! The summer experience provided lasting relationships, personal development, new opportunities, and FUN! Kids Classic Golf Tournament On July 15th, more than 100 golfers participated in the 2019 Kids Classic Golf Tournam ent at Charter Oak Country Club in Hudson, MA. Golfers enjoyed 18 holes of golf, lunch on the course provided by Panera Bread, followed by a cocktail reception and dinner, sponsored by Ken’s Foods Inc. This year Cummings Foundation was honored for its continued support for the city of Marlborough and the Marlborough Clubhouse. Robert Katz was awarded the Michael C. Sullivan Memorial Award. More than 300 attendees enjoyed dinner, along with an extensive silent auction, live auction, and a Fund-a-Need portion. The festive holiday fundraiser brought together local community members, businesses, and vendors to support the mission of the Club. Local businesses donated and decorated 15 themed trees to be raffled off and more than 35 vendors came to share their crafts and creations with the community.
