Most people who study abroad probably didn’t decide this overnight. In fact, deciding to study abroad takes time and consideration and involves a fair amount of questions: from your parents, from your teachers and naturally, from you! Perhaps the most important of these questions is why you would choose to do it in the first place. Why would you forego studying in the comfort of your own home country and opt for a strange new world instead? To answer this complex question we’ve come up with a simple formula: L.I.V.E:

Learning: Versatility: When you study abroad you will learn a lot. Sure, loads of what you Being able to easily fit into different environments and work with learn will be in your lectures but you will also learn about new cultures, people from many different backgrounds is not just a wonderful thing new styles of teaching, you will learn about others, about yourself and but it also opens many doors. There are a lot of uncertainties to choosing your from a distance. How should you judge a university’s suitability without the benefit of local knowledge? How do you know that your education will be a good investment? Faced with all these uncertainties, lots of people turn to league tables. But league tables aren’t always the answer. There are lots of worldwide rankings to choose from, each with their own measures of success. The big three are The Times World Rankings (THE), the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) and the QS World University Ranking (QS). THE looks primarily at research output and influence, along with some measures of the teaching environment. For students thinking about undergraduate degrees in the USA, the entrance tests will play a major role in any application. Things have always been somewhat confusing given the choice between the SAT and the ACT, but things are set to get trickier still when the SAT changes in March 2016.
