I. Course Description: Sixth-grade content standards focus on the history of the from the Industrial Revolution to the present. Historical events studied by six graders include the rise of the United States as an industrial nation, World War I, the Great Depression, WWII, and the Cold War Era. Furthermore, the economic, political, social, and technological issues and developments from post-WWII to the present are explored. Emphasis is placed on economic, geographic, historic, and civic and governmental changes that have influenced every aspect of life during these events, including communication and technological advances, reorganization of national boundaries, and the movement of the United States into the role of world leader.

II. Course Objective:

Students will: Examine the significance of key turning points in American history Explain the significance of political, social, and economic organizations Identify major discoveries, inventions, and scientific achievements, and evaluate their impact on society Identify achievements in art, literature, and politics, and assess their impact on society Compare the world we live in today with past eras Identify economic and political challenges that Americans have faced, and explain how they have responded to those challenges Reflect upon choices humans have made in the past and consider how choices made today may affect the future

III. Classroom Expectations: Students are expected to come to class with charged computers and required materials. Students are expected to turn in assignments on time and follow all CMS and HCS rules.

VI. Assignments will be posted on Edmodo. Students will use their planner to record homework on a daily basis. VII. Grades will be updated in I-Now on Monday.
