Kimpton

Markyate Ayot St Street Lawrence Wheathampstead

Sandridge Good Practice

• “Building up” from parish MAPs to create deanery MAP priorities. • 4 groups, each “owning” a MAP priority. Deanery Vision

Moving from getting on well together to working well together.

MAP Priorities and SMART Goals

A – Go Deeper into God • Holding Deanery Retreats (2 in 5 years) and Deanery Quiet Days (in years when no retreat) • Providing opportunities to deepen faith through training events shared between parishes and other initiatives, including ‘Thy Kingdom Come’

B – Transform Communities • Sharing learning and best practice of how individual parishes are transforming their local communities – sessions at Synod and Chapter meetings • Distributing Welcome Packs to new housing developments within the deanery

C – Make New Disciples • Creating a deanery forum for Evangelism – encouraging boldness in proclaiming Christ and sharing faith journeys, and training others to do so – a first stage could be TableTalk at a Deanery Synod; it would also be good to ask what nurture courses have been tried and what has worked in different contexts • Staging a deanery Christian presence at the Herts County Show • Continuing and strengthening the X:Site initiative for deanery young people

D – Work Together • Parishes actively seeking ways to work with other parishes in the deanery, in delivering their Parish MAPs • Creating opportunities for clergy and lay people from different parishes to spend time together, including exploring the option of a ‘Lay Chapter’ • Co-operating to provide training e.g. for leading intercessions; pastoral care; preparation of children for communion before Confirmation; baptism follow-up • Establishing a group to improve communications between parishes across the deanery
