A.. CULTURAL REDEMPTION AS MINISTRY

1. DEFINITION OF CULTURAL REDEMPTION The taking back of creative and artistic expressions from ungodly use to use in Christian worship and celebration.

- This includes cultural heritage in music, dance, rituals and related arts.

1. THE BIBLICAL / THEOLOGICAL BASIS OF CULTURAL REDEMPTION Redeeming Filipino music and dance for Christian worship is premised on the following principles:

1. Created arts, especially music and dance, came from God and must be used for God’s glory. Deut 10:14 To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. 1 Chron 29:11 Yours, O Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendor, for everything in heaven and earth is yours. Yours, O Lord, is the kingdom; you are exalted as head over all. James 1:17 Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows. 2. Satan does not own anything. He is not a creator but only a thief and a destroyer. Jn 10:10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.

3. Creative arts, like most of creation were only grabbed, distorted, and misappropriated for himself by the evil one. 4. God’s people, who were themselves redeemed by the blood of Christ and who are inheritors of the earth, must repossess such arts for Christian use and God’s glory. Rom 8:22-23 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the rstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.

The whole creation has been groaning for redemption! 1 Cor 10:31 So whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God. Eph 5:16 . . . making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Philippine music, dance and ritual can be very powerful tools of evangelism and worship! 1. Philippine music and dance forms are neither “pagan” nor “evil.” As non- living things, they are incapable of morality or immorality. It is the heart of the musician or dancer and the object of worship that dene the morality of the art form. 1 Chron 28:9 . . . for the Lord searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts . . . Created arts, especially music and dance, came from God to be used for God’s glory. Satan , the evil one, is no creator; and only a destroyer. Creative arts were only grabbed, distorted, and misappropriated for himself by the evil one. As such, God’s people, who “inherit the earth” must repossess such arts. use them for God’s glory.

THE PROCESS OF CULTURAL REDEMPTION 1. Research and Documentation KALOOB is committed to escalate the contextualization of Christian doctrine through scholarly study of Filipino paradigms and material culture and their great potentials as tools for evangelism and edication.
