Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2021 The Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards 2021 were announced on February 20, 2021, for honouring the best in television, film, and music. This year's awards also included the OTT category keeping in view its rising popularity and immense talent showcased on the platform. Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival Awards were introduced by the Government of India in 1969 to commemorate the Father of the Indian Cinema Dadasaheb Phalke. The award recognizes the work and talent of the Indian Film Industry which is also the third-largest globally and is known for its larger-than-life films and fandoms. Dadasaheb Phalke Awards also paid tribute to all the renowned personalities of the World Cinema for their exceptional contribution to the film industry. Gandhian ethos, life and teachings are frequently represented in varied ways in different films. The portrayal of Gandhi in different films can be grouped into two broad categories: i. revolving around his life, percept and practice as one category and ii. involving his ideas, ideals and views either explicitly or implicitly. Using Bingham’s (2010) discursive analysis on biopic films, the study seeks to show how Gandhi is perceived and depicted through the lenses of these three eminent directors vis-à-vis others from the point of intertextuality both ideologically and politically. Further the study would elaborate how different personal and social events in Gandhi’s life are weaved together by these directors to bring out the character of Bapu or Mahatma from Gandhi. For all the above critique, Gandhi’s autobiography-The Story of My Experiments with Truth-has been taken as a base referent. The places portrayed by dystopian works are defined by having great uncertainty and misery. They reflect chaotic systems where societal norms and gender roles are turned upside down, and which become perfect scenarios for the emergence of female leaders who can take control of the situation as they are no longer necessarily subjected to a patriarchal system. In connection with this, the present paper is based on the idea that how Manish Jha’s debut movie, Matrubhoomi : A Nation Without Women (2003) presents futuristic dystopia, offering a view of the near future when the nation would face a grim reality without women as it sanctions almost a selective genocide against women.
