Adult Fitness

Line Dancing Advanced: Calling all line dancing lovers!!! Looking to get back in the swing of things after a year and a half off? Our Advanced line dancing is back! This class is for those who have recent dance or line dancing experience. Choreography will be a bit faster with less time focused on instruction and more time DANCING! Makeup Date: 9/7/21 Intermediate: Step things up a bit in this fun intermediate class. In this class the pace is a bit faster and the steps a little more on point. We’ll build off of what was taught in the beginner’s class to put everything together for some new dances. Previous line dancing experience strongly recommend. Makeup Dates: 9/9/21

STRONG Nation™ This class combines body weight, muscle conditioning, cardio and plyometric training moves synced to original music that has been specifically designed to match every single move. Tabata Fitness Tabata training includes a 20-second exercise followed by a 10-second rest, repeated eight times in a row. A variety of total body conditioning that will involve strength and cardio exercise. This class is designed to target all major muscles groups in a variety of ways. Yoga Our yoga classes are all about relaxation! If you are looking for a moving meditation, a full body workout, more flexibility, or just an hour of peace, you will find it all with Yoga. All you need is your body in comfortable clothes and a Yoga mat. Classes are open to all levels and will be modified according to student needs and goals.

Senior Center Programs We are excited to announce that the Plainfield Senior Center is back open to the public! We have already welcomed back most groups that have previously used the center and are working to get the remaining few back soon. Senior Art Club Have you ever wanted to try drawing or painting? It's never too late to learn. This class will be led by Karen St. Jean, a volunteer art instructor. In this class participants will learn basic art techniques, meet new friends, and will have lots of fun.

Participants will need to bring their own materials such as pencils, brushes, paints, sketch pads, and canvas for this class.

This is a free class for senior citizens age 55 and up only. This is a drop-in program. Pre-Registration is NOT required.

Trivia With Friends, Thursday, JUNE 10TH: Come exercise your brain and sharpen your memory by taking part in this fun group. This activity is always engaging and entertaining, as everyone in attendance offers stories and interesting facts pertaining to the trivia questions. You will have a great time, while also learning some interesting new things!

Hummingbird Perch, Friday, JUNE 11TH: I had so many folks sign up for this class last month, that I decided to host a second one! This sweet little perch will be a lovely addition to your hummingbird feeding station, bird feeding station, or just a nice piece of art for your garden! Using copper wire and red beads, I’ll show you how to create this adorable little “rest area” for your feathered friends. Those on the waiting list from last month will be given first priority for a seat. I have enough materials for this class for 6 attendees. Please bring a pair of regular pliers to class.

Origami Swan, Thursday, JUNE 17TH: This is a fairly easy model, as we get back into the groove of doing origami again. Make just one or a whole bank of them!

Learning Through Documentaries, Thursday, JUNE 24TH: This month’s documentary is entitled Mysteries of Sleep. The description of this 1-hour program, put out by NOVA, reads: Why do we sleep? And what does sleep have to do with memory, trauma, and our emotions? This is sure to be a fascinating show; I hope you can join us! The program will be followed by a period of interactive conversation.

Card Making, Thursday, JULY 1ST: In this class we’ll be making a pre-designed card that can be customized with numerous phrases to be used for a particular occasion. It will require some coloring. Bring your favorite colored pencils and pens if you’d like, or use the large assortment I have here.

Aquatics Plainfield Parks and Recreation is very excited to announce the Town Pool will be reopening for designated Family and Adult Only swim times beginning Monday, June 21. In order to ensure a smooth transition back to the pool we ask that everyone that had active memberships at the pool at the time of closure (March 2020) to please call the office to setup an account so we can renew your membership.

COVID-19: We ask users of the pool who are not fully vaccinated to continue to wear masks while in the locker rooms and on the pool deck. We also ask all users to limit their interaction with pool staff and other patrons to ensure everyone's safety. Lifeguards: Compensation: $14.00 per hour Position Summary: Supervises swimming activities at the aquatics facility and ensures that policies, guidelines, and safety procedures are followed. Warns swimmers of improper activities or danger and enforces pool regulations and water safety policies.

Must be Lifeguard Certified. Be on the lookout for future lifeguard training classes

Water Aerobics Instructors: Compensation: Negotiable Position Summary: Employee is responsible for developing and conducting different types of aquatic aerobics classes. We are looking for instructors who are willing to help us create fun and exciting exercise classes within the aquatic environment!

Water Safety Instructor (WSI) Compensation: $15.00/hr Position Summary: Will teach students swimming and safety lessons to the standards of the American Red Cross.

Must be WSI Certified.

Youth Sports Summer High School Open Gym

For Students entering grades 9-12 This is an "open gym" program with adult supervision. It is participant/player guided. Players may choose to stay for all or part of the three hours.

Pre-registration is required. No Walk ins.

Pricing: $35.00 for the entire session.

Summer Sports Camps For Students entering grades 4 - 9 Each camp will focus on teaching the fundamentals of the specific sport. Coaches will develop a curriculum that will run athletes through fun drills and activities intended on further developing the athlete's skills and abilities.

Each participant will receive a T-shirt by the end of the session!

All instruction will be age-appropriate and designed for each student to learn something new each week. Students will acquire new art vocabulary, proper use of tools and materials, mixing of color, problem-solving, and on top of that, they will develop a sense of skill + style of their own. All supplies included. Basic drawing + painting techniques will be applied and taught per the required project. All instructional materials are designed around the current Spring Season. THE YOUNG ARTS CLUB + PLAY GROUP w/ A&H | ARTISAN & HOME Each week your child will have an opportunity to explore the arts and create something personal. Now providing transportation from the Towns of Canterbury and Voluntown to Summer Camp and back to town!

COVID-19 Guidelines: • All campers and staff will have their temperature checked at the start of each day. • Staff will be required to wear masks at all times. • Campers will be required to wear masks inside but do not have to while outside. • Cohorts of 20 will be formed and will have 2-3 counselors assigned to that specific cohort for the entire two week session. Cohorts will not interact or mix throughout the session.

General Camp Info! • Designated Art, Science, Music/Drama, and Sports time every day for an overall more structured and enriching camp experience. • One field trip per session! Southwick Zoo, Mystic Aquarium, & Ecotarium! • Weekly trips to the Town Pool! • Endless camp games!

Enrichment Camp Grades 1-8 Camp Overview: Participants of this camp must be enrolled in the Plainfield Public Schools’ Enrichment Academy Plainfield Memorial School Tuesday, July 6 - Friday, July 30 8:30am - 4:30pm Regular drop-off takes place at PMS 8:20-8:40am Regular pick-up takes place at PMS 4:15-4:35pm

Extended Day Options: Early Drop-off is only available on Mondays and Fridays. Drop-off takes place at Shepard Hill between 7:00am - 8:15am. Campers will be bussed to PMS for the start of camp at 8:30am Late Day Pick-up is available everyday. Pick-up takes place at Shepard Hill between 4:30 - 5:30pm. At the end of each camp day, campers will be bussed from PMS to SHE for late day pickup.
