Hollywood is a world-famous hot spot for many facets of the entertainment industry, including music. One of the most notable players in the music business is . The first West Coast-based record company in the United States, Capitol Records was founded in Hollywood in 1942 by legendary songwriter and singer Johnny Mercer, film producer Buddy DeSylva and music retailing pioneer Glen Wallichs.

Capitol Records has been home to many of the world's most acclaimed artists, including , , Coldplay, , Paul McCartney, Steve Miller Band, , Les Paul, , Pink Floyd, , and countless others.

In addition to prowess as a titan of the music industry, Capitol Records is also renowned for its iconic circular office tower designed by Welton Becket. Completed in 1956, the building is home to recording studios and echo chambers that produce some of the finest acoustics in the entire world. The Capitol Records Tower is recognized by the City of Los Angeles as Historic- Cultural Monument #857 and is a much-loved, much-recognized feature of the Hollywood skyline.

As Capitol Records prepares to celebrate its 75th anniversary in 2017, it is appropriate that the City join in celebrating this occasion, in recognition of the profound impact Capitol Records has had on the economy, culture and history of Los Angeles.

I THEREFORE MOVE that the Department of Transportation be instructed to install a commemorative sign in front of the Capitol Records Tower located at 1750 Vine Street that acknowledges the company's 75th anniversary and the building's status as a Historic-Cultural Monument.
